Georgia Tech Game

For the visual types, I am attaching a map below. There is a tunnel underneath I-75/85 which I have market. Your tickets are likely to be in the southeast corner of the stadium. I have also market the spot east of the interstate where the CanesUnited tailgate was held two years ago, and many of us walked from that location.

The area east of the interstate is Midtown. There are plenty of hotels AND parking garages on that side.

Depending on the time of the game, I am probably going to plan something to be held at Ladybird Mess Hall and Provisions. Great spot.

For those who are staying through Sunday, I may also set up a brunch at Canoe.

Check out those two spots and let me know if you're interested. I'm not knocking Ponce City Market or any other spot, but those places aren't quite as unique.

Just moved about a ten minute walk from Ladybird, is there a good Canes watch bar in the area?

Wow. I have stayed at Hilton Downtown last two times. I thought was decent area and felt safe walking around.

🤷🏻‍♂️
Around there is ok, but there’s very little going on at night. If you’re visiting and going to a game at the Benz or arena, or if you are coming to do the aquarium/coke/college HOF it is fine other than few restaurants. But, yea if you walk off in the wrong way from downtown you can get in some trouble like in many big cities.

If you’re going to a game at tech there’s no reason to stay there. You can stay in Midtown where there are bars and restaurants, can still take Marta to and from the airport (and without changing lines), can walk to the game, be in the middle of the gameday atmosphere.

The ATL Alumni Association has moved the watch parties around. A few were at The Battery.

Or maybe figure out anywhere that Melvin Bratton is going...

Yeah I saw they were doing some stuff at the battery last season, I feel like I used to see them do stuff maybe at Hudson in L5P but I may be mixing that up. Was hoping something on the east beltline may be a spot.

Places to go that are NOT in Buckhead:

I live in town. Do not stay downtown. Also no reason to stay in Buckhead at this point. Midtown is where things are these days.

Any of these are a 15 minute walk or less - Renaissance, Georgian Terrace, or Indigo. If you are ok with maybe another 5-10 minutes, the epicurean is brand new and people love it.

If you give your son’s ages range, I can give you some restaurant and activity recommendations too.
He’s 15

It's not that downtown is hyper unsafe, it just isn't the experience I think visitors with kids would prefer. It's just very urban and lacks charm/personality. But if your goal is to hit tourist hotspots like CFB HOF, Coke, and aquarium, it's fine.

What area is the parking deck location we tailgate @ tech stadium? The parking deck we totally rule. I'm trying to get a parking pass ahead of time. Can't recall the parking pass location

You should try to do the College Football
Hall of Fame while here. He would probably like that and it dovetails with the purpose of the weekend.

Ponce City Market is good for kids around that age too.
Agree! CFB HOF is so much fun for all ages. Piedmont Park is also fun and has a great farmers market Saturday mornings. There’s a great Cuban food truck, and I also highly recommend Emerald Bagels (some of my favorite ever, and I lived in NYC for a few years). My son also loves the Fernbank (science) Museum, but that’s a little farther out, so you’d need to drive or Uber out. Worth it though. Midtown also has great art museums (High Museum, Center of Puppetry, MODA), if you’re into that.

I also agree 100% on everyone’s hotel recs. Also there are no good restaurants or anything else to do in downtown. But I think some of y’all might be confusing downtown with Midtown? Downtown Atlanta is the area further south, near where the government buildings are. Midtown is nicer and where GT is. We don’t refer to the whole “city” area as downtown here.

Edit: oops, I think I may have replied to you when I meant to quote you - sorry dude!
