Game with Southern Miss in 2014?

Now that we're going to a playoff format, scheduling will be more important in the future then it is now. The new format allows for imperfection since all these teams can't be undefeated but can still get into the playoff for the National Championship.

So you schedule a big game at a neutral site, make a boat load of money and if you lose it won't hurt you as bad.

Also, I believe, in due time the 4 team playoff will be expanded to 8 teams.

Agree defiantly can see how having our own neutral big time game in the northeast could help

Rep you again once I can!!!

It used to be you played 6 home games and 6 road games. But schools are being creative. Schedule 7 home games, 4 road games (usually in conference games which you can't control) and 1 game at a neutral site.

Bama has 7 home games, 4 road games (although 1 is in Bama at Auburn) and 1 neutral site game (Georgia Dome). I would follow this model unless you want to replace the neutral site game with a home and home. I think the canes should play 7 home games every year.

Bingo! They pretty much have to expand since it would be assumed that the SEC would take 2 of the 4 slots every year. The ACC, Pac 12, and the Big 12 will definitely push for it, that's for sure.

Put Penn State in the open game slot we recruit the North East and that will get UM another TV game Guaranteed. They can even come to Sun Life it will be like a bowl game for them mid season.

Go Canes!

If they go to this revamped 8 team playoff, you need rules...

1. 5 of the 8 playoff teams are the conference champion (i.e. ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac-12 and SEC), so the former Big East falls out and become part of the at large pool.

2. Of the 8 playoff teams, only at most 2 can come from the same conference.

3. No pre-season rankings or any rankings till after week 5.

4. After all conference championships games are decided, those conference champions are removed from the equation (of ranked teams) and the highest 3 ranked schools advance as an at large team. The teams are then re-seeded from best to worst.

1 versus 8
--------- Winner v Winner
4 versus 5
--------------------------------------- Championship Game

2 versus 7
--------- Winner v. Winner
3 versus 6

5. In order to keep things fair, the 5 major conference opponents must schedule out of conference games against each other twice. So Alabama must play two non-conference games against opponents against an ACC, Big 10, Big 12 or Pac-12 opponent.

I love this plan. It make too much sense.

You know the SEC would not agree with rule number two though. Lol.

Also, under your plan, does ND have to join a conference or would they be part of the pool with the Big East, MWC, etc.?

Love the idea but I doubt it flies, especially the play 2 OOC games against other BCS divisions, SEC ain't havin that.

I'd much rather us play in MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands over Yankee Stadium. It's actually a football stadium.

Nothing was as bad as when Northwestern played Illinois at Wrigley. Because of the outfield wall, the offenses were only allowed to go in one direction.

**** New Yankee Stadium though. We could play Penn State in Baltimore or Michigan in Philly. That would be tight work.

No, with our "luck" we'd play a neutral site game against Penn State in Philly or Michigan in Detroit.

Why on earth would anyone think we'd actually be going TO Southern Miss for a game? Dammit.

Nebraska went there, Virginia went there, NC State went there, Cal went there (with Aaron Rodgers), Illinois went there, Oklahoma State went there, Texas A&M went there, Virginia Tech went there....should I continue?

Thought Nebraska's game with them was played in the Superdome? Anyway, nothing suggests we're going there. There's nothing about a series with them, just a game. There's no way we're playing a one shot in Hattiesburg.

I'm not in favor of an automatic bid. Top 8 teams go. Needs some checks and balances becuase as of now like 4 SEC teams would make it. But I'm not keen on handing out spots just because you're the best in the Big 12 on a down year. Nor do I think a 4 loss team who pulls an upset in the conference championship should walk into the National title picture over a 1 loss BCS team from possibly a tougher conference.

If you take the 8 best teams in the country all season, I guarantee that the best team in the country will emerge from that group. Its going to make for great games, great ratings, and add some games to the docket. All the old traditions are out the window anyways, so why be stubborn with the old bowl system.

Every other thread on here turns into "Oh Louisville is gonna waltz into our spot in the national title game" Or "2 1 loss teams in the SEC are gonna play and we'll get screwed out"

Jeebus meng, we are 3-0. Act like you've been there before. We didn't look like a National Title team against FAU and we certainly didn't look like national title team against U***, not gaining a single yard in the second and third quarter. Not to say we can't get better or run the table, but lets take it week by week here because this team we have is more than capable of losing to 5 or 6 teams left on our schedule. Not to be debbie downer but I love how its such a forgone conclusion that we run the table and we're not even 25% into the season.
