Had Cam not checked out of the play at the end we would have put 60 on Duke after being down 28-17…six zero! That’s 43 in one half, and we had a couple of bad throws and a couple of drops in the first half.
As much as some folks like to say, the defense is going to bite us in the butt we also have the potential to have a game where they play above their heads and the offense hits on everything and good Lord, what that could be like.

I can see that point but why take the foot off the gas? It also doesn't make sense when it's working.

If we had a defense worth a **** then I could see this argument working, however, that's not the case and teams seem to be able to score at will on us
Here are the precise moments where I felt we could run.

We're up 39-31 and we have surprisingly gotten Duke off the field on a 3 and out.

We have the ball at our 34 with 11:11 left. I'm thinking that maybe we can have a long, drawn out drive and kill clock and if we can extend lead to 46-31 with maybe 4-6 minutes left, we're in a good spot.

1st play pass to Brown for 20. So now we have 1st and 10 at Duke 46 with 10:35 left. We run Martinez who picks up 5. 2nd and 5 at Duke 41. I think we're looking good. Instead of 2 runs and relying on our bell cow who excels in these situations, we go pass on 2nd down and 3rd down is the INT. I think we could and should have run twice there and just bludgeoned them late.

Later, it's 53-31. Game is over. We get ball at Duke 35 and we go run, pass, pass, pass with the last one Ward getting drilled on backside for a fumble. Not sure why we were passing other than to pad Ward's Heisman campaign.

I think in that situation it is to early to just bleed the clock. With 10 minutes left, they are still going to use the same offensive philosophy. If the box is stacked, pass the ball. If not, run the ball. I have no idea the defensive alignment on 2nd and 5, but I would bet the box was stacked. Cam doesn't help Dawson look good when he makes that terrible throw. On the other hand, if he hits the check down to Martinez suddenly it looks like a great call.

I don't see this team bleeding clock until 6 minute mark no matter what the defense is offering.

Fair point.

We're a little unique in that we can pass but we can also get into a slugfest. Martinez is the back that looks better carries 15-30 then 1-15. He's at his best late. I thought that a 15 point lead with less than 5,6 minutes is putting us into a very favorable statistical outcome so I was surprised to see pass pass on 2nd and 3rd down.

I'm all in favor of the uppercut but body blows ending in a TD there would have been equally acceptable and would have run some clock. We got lucky Duke couldn't move the ball following the INT. Against a good team, IMO those play calls are more questionable.

Game time decision = he playing and will have 300 yards
King has a shoulder injury with his throwing arm. He hasn't played in a month and it will be a soaked field. I'm not worried about King at all. I actually want him to play.

Their schedule is odd because they have another bye after us. Not sure if that will factor into their decision, since it gives King 2 more weeks to recover.

Haven't read whole thread but here's a stat to keep in mind.

In five ACC games, Haynes King has thrown three touchdowns.

In five ACC games, Cam Ward has thrown 15 touchdowns.

You might say, but what about his legs? Yes, Haynes King can run. He's run for five TD's and Cam has run for two but caught one.

This isn't a debate as to who is better, but QB's score points and points win games. I'll take the guy with 18 TD's (106 points) in ACC play versus the guy with eight TDs (48 points). BIG ADVANTAGE: Miami

You might say, they are a running team, though. Yes, they are. They have eight rushing TD's by RB's in six games. We have nine in five games.
ADVANTAGE: Miami

Rushing yards per game: Tech averages 175 per. We average 182 per. ADVANTAGE: Miami

Yards per carry: Tech averages 4.8. We average 5.4. ADVANTAGE: Miami.

It won't be pretty at times, but numbers don't lie and we're not losing.

Every ******* week. My god guys, perhaps you should pick up another hobby, like speed knitting or reading colorful pamphlets to orphans. Biggest bunch of Low T fans ever!

People have been posting s.hitty replies like this for the last 20 seasons only for us to then lose the game LOL

This game will be a battle. That low spread says it all
