FSU bringing out legends for its camp

None of FSU players who are in the NFL are household names like Miami players were/are love em or hate em everybody knows Warren Sapp Michael Irvin and Ray Lewis. On top of that these guys have TV jobs and usually endorse Miami. FSU players usually flame out in the league like OSU and USC players Miami is NFL U. Paradise cannot be copied.

Spot On!!!!

I haven't seen too many if any at all, that were at Paradise who are also at FSU's camp.
The best thing so far, is I haven't seen anything indicating Blades Jr, Asante Jr or Tyson Campbell headed to the camp, or any of the elite OL's that were at our being there either.
Not that I'm worried about it, I'm just saying it shows that the kids don't look at it as the same level of competition as Paradise.

What is a Peter Warrick?

I hate FSU as much as the next man but Peter Warrick was the truth at FSU. Didnt have the long speed to stay in the NFL very long but was a great college WR. He should have won the Heisman in 99' if he had not gotten into trouble. In todays era of wide open offenses in college he would have been a terror and unguardable.

All that said, its a joke to trot him out there. If I were him I would not have gone. Using him as a puppet and having him come behind your arch rivals camp that had legit HOFers present. (Sapp, Lewis, Irvin) and other guys who more then made their mark in the league. PW should have stayed in Bradenton.

Problem with Warrick wasn't long speed. He had unreal quickness and change of direction ability. Would have been successful. But he suffered an injury early in his career that took away that athleticism and agility. Never the same again.

Im on a chat with a buddy who is giving me updates from camp and there are ZERO "known" south florida kids there. In fact, there were a few kids there from SoFla that I never even heard of..Anybody got an intel on..

Kevin Austin Jr - 2018 WR (North Broward Prep)

Gerald Jenkins - 2018 WR (Glades Central)

James Bostic 2017 WR is there. Ive heard of him. (Pops played at Dillard when Dillard was actually a state power in the late 80s/early 90s)

Dude, Warrick ran a 4.6 at the combine when he ran it that year. (Lav Coles ran a 4.3 and Warrick was suppose to be the man) That kind of speed coupled with him being small frame wise was going to spell a short career in the NFL. Esp back then where offenses werent as wide open as now. He might have lasted longer if he were playing in this era where you cant touch a WR after 5 yards.

His injury didnt help either but even if he had stayed healthy he would have flamed out eventually.

Corey Simon may have been their best DT during their run in the 80s / 90s (out of Pompano Beach Ely)....

If I remember, he was pretty good with the Eagles, too....

He looked like a true DT - a lot of their other DTs weren't so big...

Recently they've had some good ones, though....

I could see Derrick Brooks, Deion, etc. The problem is, so many of their "stars" busted out in the pros.

Simon was good, but again the problem with FSU stars is name recognition and charisma. Beyond Deion, Brooks and maybe Charlie Ward (most kids today may know him more for basketball than football) they don't have those guys in their alumni. Maybe a Devonta Freeman could show up sho has some charisma but not a star. Miami can roll these guys out in waves. Lewis, Irvin, Shockey, Duke, Sapp. Romberg not a star but a great charismatic speaker. Can still roll out Vilma, Dorsey, Highsmith, Bratton, Bennie Blades. Ed Reed and Andre Johnson will probably retire and be available soon. Reed in particular is a legend with many Louisiana kids and could help sway some of those. Jim Kelly is tight with Richt and could join in if completely recovered from his cancer treatment. And probably a host of names I can't think of right now. But fact is no other school can match the star power in even if they have similar amount of NFL alumni.

I hear they're all on pins and needles hoping that Thad Busby might show up. Would salvage the camp since Dan Kendra no-showed.

I'm as a big Miami as there can be, but I gotta give props to Kendra. Injuries killed his career, but he eventually became a Navy SEAL. I'm not sure if he's still in the Navy...but big props to anybody who puts on the uniform and serves in harm's way.

I believe he's actually back in Pennsylvania and in pharmaceutical or medical device sales. Agree on the military service props. At least he was able to to channel a level of meatheadedness that'd make Gronkowski blush into something respectable.

Its a tough call. Go to Miami for a weekend and hang out with legends. Or spend a Wednesday in Trailerhassee getting coached up by Peter Warrick. You may even have the once in a lifetime opportunity to sit in that nifty little golf cart with Jimbo while he crosses his legs like a woman. Coin flip decision if you ask me.

Lot of those older "legends" still hold a grudge. They are very loyal to the old guard.

No, it was speed and his frame. He wasn't fast and couldn't get off the line of scrimmage. He was just really quick and could stop on a dime and change directions. That worked well in college, but not the NFL. He couldn't create separation.
