MEGA Frenk Out - Who Next?

often agree with you, this time I don't. At least on point one if not point 2. I think the days of Miami president not caring about ALL facets of the university are over.

Doesn't mean two isn't still in play.
Hopefully man. I’m only going based on history and UM has done nothing to earn any optimism that they will get this right IMO

I actually posted it as a joke before I realized they even promoted from within. It just worked out that way.

I know Joe's background as far as Deloitte and public accounitng career is very good. Smart dude.

The MAGA in me though... finding it hard to look over the time he spent as an advisor for Obama and being on Phizer's BOD.... those 2 facts completely nullify any success he's had anywhere else.

Curious of how the UHealth has transformed since he's been President. Aside from the spike during the 1.5 years of peak covid where $300M hit the bottom line or whatever it was that was exponentially higher than prior periods.

You are kidding yourself if you think the President is not involved in these conference realignment discussions as well. He needs to do it all, fix academics, fundraise and build a relationship with the other conferences. Shalala was a great fundraiser but she famously didnt care much for athletics which is why we have slid so far.
actually youre wrong. she did care about athletics, the issue was she got too involved. anyone who took her class would tell you she absolutely loved UM athletics.

Pretty naive to think one person can unify a broken campus. Students today are governed by social media. Whether it be true or false it’s their main source of cess pool anti American anti establishment and hate current events. The government has failed them the school has failed them and this diverse hire will not change a thing.
unfortunately, a very accurate statement.

she cared more about sports than Frenk ever did. you dont want your president making hiring decisions, which is the issue with DS. she tried to hire barry alvarez here when she got here but obviously players wanted Larry Coker.
How much money were we spending on athletics and specifically, football, under Shalala?

Forget Barry Alvarez. Why wasn’t Randy Shannon given the proper resources if she cared so much? Why did he allegedly have to go with plan C coordinators like Patrick Nix?

Actions speak louder than words. I could care less what she said during class.

you realize Frenk didnt spend more either. it wasnt until literally the boosters put up money for mario. the presidents have very little control over that

What actions?!

The Orange Bowl was not her fault.

I took her class. Actions speak louder than words man.

Exactly. She inherited a university with the #1 football program in the world who played in an iconic stadium of its own and coached by one Butch Davis... and under her tenure we hired Larry Coker, Randy Shannon, Al Golden. She invested $0 in football, was instrumental in tearing the Orange Bowl to rubble, and she never lifted a finger to built us a replacement stadium. She didn't invest in any facilities. Then there's the famous picture of her accepting a check from Nevin Shapiro.

Shalala was as much of a train wreck for Miami as anyone could be. If she wasn't actively trying to destroy the football program, then she just bungled it up so badly I don't know if we should laugh or cry. We're STILL digging our way out of the hole she put us in.

That's her legacy.

Doesn’t seem like a normal presidential departure given the fact that he’s leaving immediately and it’s less than a year before UM’s centennial anniversary.

Good riddance… he was beyond terrible.
