MEGA Frenk Out - Who Next?

Tell me you know nothing without telling me you know nothing. Another fool who thinks frenk was behind the new investment in athletics lol
You’re 100% right. Frenk was a complete non factor with sports. The most credit I could give him in that area is that he knew enough to know that he was out of his depth, so he deferred to others. He couldn’t give less of a **** about sports though.

Well for me that show great leadership. He step aside and deferred.

Typical CIS.. when in doubt always blame the president of an academic institution when sports fail to perform.

Exactly. She inherited a university with the #1 football program in the world who played in an iconic stadium of its own and coached by one Butch Davis... and under her tenure we hired Larry Coker, Randy Shannon, Al Golden. She invested $0 in football, was instrumental in tearing the Orange Bowl to rubble, and she never lifted a finger to built us a replacement stadium. She didn't invest in any facilities. Then there's the famous picture of her accepting a check from Nevin Shapiro.

Shalala was as much of a train wreck for Miami as anyone could be. If she wasn't actively trying to destroy the football program, then she just bungled it up so badly I don't know if we should laugh or cry. We're STILL digging our way out of the hole she put us in.

That's her legacy.
Thank you

I can’t even reply to the porsters defending her because “she cared more about athletics than Frenk ever did.” That is called a straw man argument. Shalala should rot in ****. The photo of her with Nevin at the bowling alley is her legacy in my mind. She cared about nothing except for money.

Frenk is just a clueless dolt hired because of race.

That worked well for Harvard. Unless that faculty member is a dean, we'd be better suited looking for someone with leadership experience.

Shalala had been a chancellor at University of Wisconsin.
Foote had been the dean of a Washington University Law School.
Henry King Stanford was president of Birmingham-Southern College.
Yah Dean level experience is pretty much an absolute minimum for anyone to be at all a serious applicant for an R1 university president post

I mention sports! Still UHealth still a cash cow and funding sports. The UM issue is that they are still operating under the Ivy league mentality.. which we are not and is not our student demographic.
You keep owning yourself in this thread man. UHealth is BECAUSE of shalala. We were a south florida real estate holding firm before she arrived and shifted to buying up health care capacity.

I am torn on this.

On one hand, I see the history of academics leading major institutions.

On the other hand, I've seen F$U select one failed politician after another as its president, and they now have a higher ranking than we do.

So I'm not 100% opposed to going the non-academic route. Needs to be someone very good.
Running FSU is a much more inherently political job though. Thrasher couldn't even answer basic questions about how to apply for research grants at his early town halls with faculty. A non academic hire like that here would truly be catastrophic internally. At an absolute minimum we'd hemorrhage disgruntled faculty and it would be open season for peer institutions to poach us like crazy. And faculty poached bring their grant money with them when they go.

I'm always skeptical that academic types will marginalize athletics. Maybe that's an unwarranted stereotype. But I'd kind of prefer folks like Frenk that seemingly stayed out of the way than the flip-side, which is someone too involved, which I always assume would likely have negative not positive repercussions.
