Florida State Post Game Plus/Minus

The thing I take away is the we have the platform for greatness. No NCAA cloud and Golden has shown that not only can he recruit, but that he can also develop. We hung in there with FSU and with a few breaks the game could have been a little closer. Give Golden another year or two of recruiting without the NCAA and another year or two of getting players into U Tough and no one will be able to stop us.

We did get a few breaks. Both RD's came as result of TO's. I thought Morris overall looked pretty good and he still has it. That bodes well hopefully for next week. I have watched most all of the college games and FSU looked a little different. For the most part we took out the long ball and vice versa for FSU. For the most, not completely. Winston had, probably, his worst half of the year in the first half, still, FSU got it done. I have looked at them as a passing team but last night they became a running team. Last night it wasn't about Winston. We have to find a way to win without Duke now. Morris at least gives some hope. He had some real sparks at points last night. I think we can still win next week. Gotta move on right away!

We just aren't on their level.

I'd like to think we aren't that far off, but we ain't there yet.

It doesn't help that we have been in dog fights all year long with barely bowl eligible teams (UF, Wake, Georgia Tech) and teams that won't make bowls (UNC). It is tough to get a read on how good Miami is because of it.

I'd like to think we are truly an improved team, but I can't shake the idea we are an 8-4 type of team that lucked into a soft schedule.

FWIW, UNC is going to make a bowl this year. They're 3-5 now and if you look at their schedule, they're going to at least finish 6-6, maybe even 7-5.

Speaking of opponents, Wake Forest was shut out yesterday and held to 213 TOTAL yards by Syracuse.

So? Campanaro, who is something like 75% of their offense broke his collarbone is and is out for the season. Their second leading WR got hurt late in the game against us and didn't play against SU. Their best DB got hurt late in the game against us and didn't play against SU. If those 3 games don't play against Miami, I guarantee it's not as close as it was.

that screen play to freeman for the TD was a great play call..we rarely bltized all game..and when we did fisher called the screen at the right time..that killed us

Here are my thoughts

1. We played them basically even in the first half (just like last year)

2. We played a horrible second half and they ran away with it (just like last year, though it was closer at home)

3. I'm still not that impressed with FSU. Yes, they beat us by 27, and you can call me a sore loser, but we missed a FG, we got stuffed on a fourth down after Coley dropped a pass that would have given us first and goal. Morris missed a sure TD to Coley when it was 28-14. This game should have been a lot closer than the final score.

4. For those crying and whining on the gameday in game thread, STFU. If you don't realize we're still 1-2 years away, go the **** away and root for another team and then jump back on the bandwagon in 2 years. We have guys playing now that have no business playing D-I football, but they're still playing out of necessity because we're not there yet.

5. Morris. What can you say. Very good first half, very bad second half. The INT to Coley was dog****. Sure TD if he throws it 3-4 seconds earlier. I was watching the game with a high school OC and he thinks Walford ran the wrong route on the 2nd INT, and that's why Morris threw it the way he did, and Morris reacted the way he did, yelling at Walford on the sideline. He thought Walford was supposed to round it off a little more. Who knows. Morris had a horrible second half regardless.

6. Duke was finally having a good game against a top team, and then this. Hopefully it's just an ankle sprain and he comes back this year. It looked bad.

7. Coley the player did not have a good game. Can everyone now STFU up with the Sammy Watkins comparisons? Maybe he will be in 2 years, not today, not this year.

8. So, I guess Rashawn Scott is "back" but not "back" enough to play?

9. Perryman, and I said this during the week, is not having a good year. He's racking up tackles, but he aside from the UF game where he balled out, he's not making an impact. And don't post that great hit against Wake, it was after a 15 yard gain, big ******* deal. If he's an elite LB he needs to make his presence known. He is not.

10. I'm not commenting on Highsmith because I just don't want to be mean, and I like his Dad.

11. Quan is going to be a stud, but he got juked twice on what should have been drive ending sacks that led to first downs and eventually FSU TDs. Frustrating, but the raw talent is there.

12. I did love the enthusiasm from the team, but that can only take you so far. We're getting back, but we're not there yet. We don't have the horses. FSU is 2-3 years ahead of us. We knew this, but a lot of us wouldn't admit it.

13. Coley the OC is frustrating sometimes with slow developing runs, and refusing to move Morris on 3rd and short by giving him a run/pass option. Why can't we run a successful screen? The playcall on 4th and 2 was atrocious. FSU knew where it was going.

14. For all those whining that Coach D is too vanilla, well he blitzed a lot tonight, and they got burned. He sat back, and they got burned, so STFU, it's the players not being as good, not the scheme.

15. Goudis sucks. Plain and simple. Can O'Donnell kick FG? I have no confidence in Goudis unless it's within 30 yards. Pathetic.

16. I honestly don't think FSU is amazing. They're better, deeper and more talented than us, but this is not an unbeatable team. If we have Duke back, and we play better, we can beat this team in Charlotte (if we get there).

17. Last point, and this is the big one. Golden's biggest coaching job was not this week. It was not getting them ready to play for FSU. It was not getting them fired up for this game. His biggest job is getting them ready to play against VT. They absolutely cannot lay an egg against VT. They absolutely cannot have an emotional hangover against VT. They have to forget this game, and know if they come to play the rest of the season, they'll play FSU again. VT is bad, we need to come out and play well next week.

****... You are making too much sense in this post. Stop it!

Great post!

Well, BC held them to 10 and Clemson held them to 7. Also, they are ranked 112th in points scored, 116th in rushing yards, and 69th in passing yards for the season. What do you make of that?

Our D's performance against Wake was indefensible, period.

Every game is different. That's what I make of that. BC barely beat Villanova and then played FSU tougher than anyone else. Does that mean Villanova is as good as FSU? Come on.

Sure every game is different, but there's a reason that they were ranked 112th in points scored, 116th in rushing, and 69th in passing. And it's because they are not good offensively. I'll be glad when we get to where we need to be so that I won't have to be a part of these ridiculous discussions because we will have done what we were supposed to do; shut mediocre *** offenses down.

And we held them to 21 points, 7 in the second half and under 400 yards of offense. That game was only close because the offense was abysmal. The offense plays a good game and we win 45-21 and no one cares what the defense did.

And they made one bad play that went for a TD. They shut them down the entire second half. Highsmith and Cornelius made (or didn't make) plays on one play. It's not like Wake gashed us, they hit a big play for a TD. Defense came out the next time and got an INT to seal the game.

And that bad play happened when we didn't need it to happen. Bottom line is I'm unhappy with the performance against Wake and you're not. Agree to disagree. We're wasting each other's time really.

Highsmith and Cornelius, now therein lies a real problem for the defense, unfortunately they don't measure up.

No, you're putting words into my mouth now. I never said I was happy with the performance, it wasn't great, and was far from perfect, but it was a decent performance, and compared to last year, it was a marked improvement. Also, it's what we're going to get with the guys we have on the roster.

You weren't happy with it. I thought that you were. That's my bad.
