I will never criticize is HS recruiting, it’s been phenomenal since he got here. He’s had a few nice portal additions as well.
But you can’t spin his inability to attract top QB, DT, and WR1. Additionally, his coordinator hires as we all know, we’re horrendous. We have no idea if he’s corrected that, only time will tell.
But some posters get very defensive and come to his defense if you point out some of the weaknesses I mentioned above and want to belittle anyone who isn’t 100% supportive.
Canemag - in all fairness - Mario shot himself in the foot right out of the gate - stressing he wanted to RUN. I'm cool with running - it sure takes the starch out of your opponent - IF you can successfully run - and have the horses to do so.
So we can't get top QB's and top WR1's. Is it even possible that a OLine Head Coach who wants to run - might have run a lot of passing game talent off with his emphasis on he wants to RUN? Is it even POSSIBLE?
So after several years of doing detailed, analitical interviews - he brought in Gaddis. What a disaster - we can all agree on the fact that Gaddis knew offenses as much as an earthworm knows about space flight.
Now we couldn't pass - we couldn't even run. We couldn't do diddly squat on offense. It was beyond shameful.
So you combine he wants to run - with an offense that can't run or throw - and somehow that's supposed to bring in top offensive talent at QB and WR's? Not in this universe. And being an offensive lineman in times past - DT's are supposed to be kicking the doors down to get into Miami?
So he screwed up. Perception is often more powerful than reality - except in this case -
Now, I think he's had a Come To Jesus moment. He's gotten rid of the fraud Gaddis, he's got a pretty good QB to help us get another offense going - and a coach who actually can GO on offense.
He's pressing hard for DT's now - and is in the process of loading up an Offensive Line that on appearance - will certainly get enough push to actually run the football.
I've *****ed and moaned as much as anyone about those mistakes - and I've heard he's one stubborn SOB - however - the moves he's made is indicative of a coach who is catching on to correcting those mistakes - and he's going to correct the perception that we're shooting to duplicating the 1980's Nebraska team of run, run, run.
My suggestion is - let's hold off on arguments made pertaining to last season's setup - trot our players and coaches THIS season - and see more accurately what is worthy to ***ch about.
I made a mistake once - (later discovered I was right to start with) - which in of itself is another mistake - so I gotta give the man credit for making changes. He doesn't make publicly known decisions fast enough for me - but he's apparently CIA material - like a Secret Squirrel. He moves like an Apache - the greatest guerrilla fighters that ever walked the Earth.
