Fernando Mendoza

TOC provided the stats in his post. I simply highlighted the differences from what he provided. Rushing, rushing td’s and yards per carry would all be good to see.
Mateer ran for over 800 yards on better than 4.5 YPC and 15TD (Mendoza 105 yds on 1.2 YPC and 2 TD, for reference). He’s the best portal QB and it’s not remotely close, and it’s not just the stats but it’s clear if you watch him. Not saying other guys can’t win games, but Mateer is on a different level, so really no point in trying to compare any of them. We didn’t get the guy this year.

Think he made a horrible, horrible decision going to OU but oh well.

I actually have watched plenty of Texas games the last two years and while he's definitely not Cam Ward, he's definitely better than what we currently have on the roster and what's currently in the portal. He's also been playing injured.

Who isn’t better than what we have on our roster lol. And im not searching for another cam

And if we both watched games then **** the numbers, sark has literally been holding his hand since he got to texas. He has literally one of the most talented rosters and best situations in the country and he is still mid injured or not.

Dawson offense will require him to swim on his own and he will drown. I would rather get someone like mendoza and upgrade his surroundings than get someone like ewers and downgrade the surroundings and ask him to play in our offense. Both are mid but i much rather someone who held their own at cal a worse situation than someone who is more mid in one of the best situations

I was here last week, but then I started thinking about the alternative being Emory.
Im not even considering emory in my thought process lol…Like he doesn’t exist to me in our QB1 talks. Ewers would be one of my last options

I think mateer’s stats are better. Regardless, if we’re fixing the defense, which I think needs to be priority number one - and it appears we’re already on the way - and still have the NIL for Mendoza then it’s a no-brainer over what we have.

And I acknowledged that Mateer's stats were better and explained that.

Let's not forget that on Mendoza's four long 50-yard-plus pass plays against us, three of them went to RBs or TEs, only one was to a WR. And the Cal OL was not great, they only had 73 total yards of rushing and no single player had more than 20 yards of rushing. Plus we had 2 sacks and would have had more if not for Mateer's ability to escape.

Mateer had a better OL and better WRs. But Mendoza was more accurate and threw for more yards per game (Mateer played 12 games, Mendoza played 11).

Mateer would not run for 800 yards in Miami's system. That's just a fact. And 37% of all his rushing yards came in two games, he had 197 yards against Texas Tech (9.4 YPC on 21 carries with one season-long run of 68 yards) and 111 yards against San Jose State (6.2 YPC on 18 carries with a long run of 36 yards).

If you factor out those two outlier games, then he had 518 yards over the 10 remaining games for 3.7 yards per run Nobody is saying his rushing in those other 10 games is insubstantial, but to act like you would get his TTU/SJSU running numbers at Miami is just crazy. Mateer ran for 826 yards last year. Miami's all-time best rushing QB, Malik Rosier, ran for 831 yards. IN FOUR SEASONS.

So there was no omission of Mateer's rushing stats in order to make him look worse, it was just an acknowledgement that he would never ever ever have those same rushing stats in Miami's system. He sure as **** wouldn't run for 100 or 200 yards in a game in a Miami uniform.

"On a different level". Please. I just showed you that Mateer's on a nearly identical production level to ONE quarterback, and I didn't even try to compare him to anyone else. And I preferred Mateer. Guys are just acting like the offensive personnel differences between Miami and Washington State and Cal are meaningless. Why do you think that Cam Ward was able to do so well and win so many games at Miami? Cam ran the ball for Miami fewer times than he did at WSU (50% fewer times) and got more yardage per attempt than he did at WSU (30-40% more). It's called "better OL and WRs".

But sure, let's just cite statistics without context or deeper analysis...

Wazzu essentially played a Mountain West schedule.

Don’t do that. Mateer comes and it’s a totally different story. Largely because of $. Mendoza isn’t being given anything. He will have to compete for the job.
That is exactly what we need, let the best QB win the job. At the very least, we will have depth at QB until Nickel is ready.
