Fernando Mendoza

Beck has #11 QBR this season. Mateer 33rd. Mendoza 52nd. Ewers 29th.

We all know who #1 was

All above options would be excellent portal pick-ups given what's available and what our in-state competition is rolling out: Castellanos (112th) and Lagway 69th.

In terms of lining up week one against ND, you have to get one of those guys up top and only Mendoza is available.
Beck has the most arm talent and would stand out in our offense, but can’t consider if his elbow is shot. Need someone with game experience if opening against ND and Gators early season. That’s a big ask for Emory.

So he starts at Texas over Arch "Jesus" Manning and he's garbage huh?
Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...Belichick sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!.....Oh wait...wrong thread......Or does it really matter??? I mean they all turn into the same thing anyway...right???... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Well, I watched from the sideline until we were up like 40-something to 0, then you might have played me for 3 plays.
We didn't lose any games that badly so it must have been next year when I was an assistant coach. Ransom? Westminster?

I'm with you. I do not want to break in a first time starter against those teams.

We have to pay someone we can't get a QB for free and it's no salary cap
Sure but I never made a statement saying we shouldn’t either. I just voiced a scenario where maybe Ewers if he entered didn’t make sense is all. I’d be happy with Ewers but understand if it’s not in the cards and if we do get him, I know he ain’t Cam either.

I was in the 5th row behind the Cal bench. The way his team responded to him was fantastic, they had a lot of faith in Mendoza.

The supposedly all-world running back Jaydn Ott? He had 7 carries for 2 yards. Jaivian Thomas had 7 carries for 20 yards. Jonathan Brady had 1 carry for 20 yards.

So we can all agree that Cal almost beat us with their passing game. Mendoza was only sacked twice and threw for almost 300 yards (with 2 TDs). In addition to the fact that Mendoza had FOUR passes go for longer than 50 yards against us, he also had six receivers to whom he completed at least one pass longer than 10 yards.

Of course, Miami also had 6 receivers with at least one catch longer than 10 yards, though Cam threw for about 50% more yardage than Mendoza did.

The point is, do we see Jack Endries or Trond Grizzell or Corey Dyches or Mikey Matthews drawing a ton of interest in the Portal? And before you accuse me of making those names up, those are the 2 WRs and 2 TEs that Mendoza hit against Miami. In fact, Trond Grizzell (if that is his real name) was a walk-on.

So, hey, what do I know, maybe JUST MAYBE Mendoza could hit 70% and 4,000 yards throwing to JoJo and Ny and Chance instead of the guys he had at Cal.

What I saw was a good QB who sliced through our absolutely ATROCIOUS secondary. Those walkons and JAGs were wide open, and every time we brought the blitz he knew where the gap was. Interestingly, I saw VT, UL, Cuse do the same exact thing. So respectfully, that’s not the game I’d use to determine if the guy is better than other options.

All that said, I’m not saying he’s bad just that I’d prefer another portal QB to emerge. I thought Pavia might be an option for example. And I personally prefer Beck and Ewers. I am not really excited by any of them relative to Mateer tbh. But I also totally agree we cannot afford to run with Emory. So if Mendoza is Dawson’s Plan B, then Mendoza it is and I’m good.

I'm not really a fan of Mendoza, but I'd take him in a heartbeat over the alternative of starting Emory.

There's also very few options left at QB.

Unless we're gonna be poaching someone else's starter who hasn't hit the Portal yet, Mendoza is really the only viable option available to us right now.

And given the connection already in place, it's pretty much a no-brainer.
Plus if you view it from a capital efficiency standpoint, I just can't see how Ewers or Beck would make much sense over Mendoza. And definitely wouldn't over some guys that never even entered the portal

To me it is either a non playoff QB who hasnt entered yet or a CFP QB that has gone under the radar as a potential portal candidate like Leavitt. I doubt Allar or Nico leave either. I mean UTenn imo isn't very good at actually developing QBs for the next level, and Nico has all the talent to kill it here... But would he leave Utenn after they just had a really good year and he is likely making a **** load of money?

I guess the question is if it worth having not just gone hard for Mendoza (after Mateer possibility sailed) at this point just hoping for better to enter? I just hope to God we aren't trying to bank on Ewers or Beck.... I'd have taken Mendoza already, and not doing so they better be pretty **** confident they have a good option in place...

In 94 we were ranked in the top 10 in the state in 3A, won our district, only losses were close games to Gulliver and Westminster Christian and then lost to Bishop Verot in the playoffs. We beat Palmer like 45-0 or something in the last game. We beat Palmer all 4 years I was there, but '94 was the biggest blowout.

Beck has nfl grade. Up and down year and will be back one more year for some team. Had 28 tuddys, 12 ints.

Mendoza will never make the nfl. 16 tuddys and 6 ints…meh
Average college QB.
Year 4, Mario should have better than an average QB.
Lmao that is dumb AF!! How do you say dude will not make the league?! If you switch him and Beck’s team who you think has a better season? Oh wait!! Mendoza already had a better season playing with a bunch of nobodies on his squad!! Mendoza was a top 10 passer (yards) in the nation at some point smh. Mendoza doesn’t make as many mistakes and throws well on the run. More mobile than people think too. At Miami with better coaching he could be close to 4K passing yards and 30 TDs. He threw for 3k yards while missing a game. 50 more yards per game here and playing all 13 games, he gets 3800 yards.

I don't remember us playing any 3A teams. Back then we were 1A and played Ransom and Coral Shores who were 2A. I don't think we played Marathon in 94. Anyway I was a starting corner for PTS '92 and '93.
