Eye-opening stat on the running game

If Cam would take more check downs at times, we'd be unstoppable.
If he'd HIT them we'd be unstoppable. The last few weeks have been painful to watch. He'll make a perfect 50 yard pass right over the fingertips of a defender, but then miss a guy 5 yards away. I know it's a very small thing, but it is hurting the team. Half his misses are bad, simple throws. Clean that up and we're good.

Nitpicking, I know, but it's the small things that win games, and loses them.

We average more yards per carry as a team (5.4) than any team in the ACC, SEC or Big 10.

Overall, we’re tenth nationally behind some G5 teams, Notre Dame, Kansas State and UCF.

And of course, we’re the best passing team in college football.

Early 2025 prediction by me with Jordan Lyle leading the way next year, we jump to 6.7 yards a carry next year as the offensive line comes back mostly in tact next year (Bell, McCoy, Rodriguez, Cooper, Francis M).

Who would have thought out of all the coaches Cristobal would build the most dominant offense we ever had given all the offensive concerns some had about him before being the coach at Miami.
Yes but Cam Ward and even the threat of him has definitely made our offense even better than it would normally be under any other QB. Cam is exceptional. He accounts for maybe 2-3 more wins than we would have without him.

For the love of god pls pls pls beat cuse. The team is good to very good but not great . Just can’t **** the bed.

Best balanced offense we’ve had in a long time. We have a big time QB, RBs, OL, WRs and TE

The defense having too many holes and a real talent deficiency is what will hold us back from making a real title run
Best offense we've had since at least 2002.

It's these kind of stats that make me worry a little about our current recruiting class (yes I'm sure he'll close well).

It's clear Cristobal has lined up a big time recruiting class for 2026, and that's often where you feel the impact of a big season, but **** talk about proof of concept right now. I'm amazed kids aren't lining up to jump on this bandwagon.

Imagine how good our offense would be if we used our TEs, played Lyle more, Cam checked down and stopped trying to be a hero, stopped running into the middle of the line etc etc

Dawson needs to get his **** together
Joking aside I'm in a 'discussion' with a couple of Panthers fans over on the Panthers board (Clemson and UNC fans, naturally).

They're adamant that we're a pretty mediocre team carried by Ward and won't hear otherwise. To my eyes there's plenty of Sunday players on this roster - and that's not something we've been able to say for a while.

Problem is we have a TON to replace on offense next year

QB - Cam (no one even close to him on the roster)
OL - Jalen Rivers & Zach Carpenter (maybe McCoy can step up at G, but we prob need a portal C again)
RB - Martinez (should be good with Lyle)
TE - Arroyo (can Riley Williams be next, plus Lofton)
WR - Restrepo (good luck replacing him), Jacolby (Trader is next hopefully), hoping Horton stays to be a true #1

Cam and Restrepo are the big ones. They'll be impossible to replace, but the hope is you can sell top-of-the-market Portal guys based on this year's results.

OL, RB and TE will be really good. At WR, Horton is consistent and Trader/Carr are well-positioned to replace George/Brown. Need to land impact players at QB and WR1.

Cam is not perfect though(never has been). He needed Miami just like we needed him. In 2023 Miami still had a top 25 offense with tvd as qb. We elevated cam’s play with the talent we have and he’s done the same to bring us from #25 to #1 this year.

And when I say cam is not perfect(hard to be too harsh a critic of his play) but he absolutely misses the available play in front of him which sometimes put the offense in a bad spot or stall drives. It’s not a routine thing that happens but it occurs enough

Dont have the stats to prove this but 1 very interesting thing about our run game (with lot of inside zone) is we almost never ever lose yards. We always gain at least 1-2 even on ****** runs. No 2 or 3 yard losses that set you back. Combo of scheme and martinez/fletch hitting the hole even when there isnt one and falling forward i guess

Can’t low ball them because of prior success like FSU tried to do remember the money still has to be spent regardless of success

So with power 4 comp we’re 4th with a qb who doesn’t run a lot if ever while the other 3 have basically running qbs which skews the numbers

I believe we as fans have liked the production of the run game this year. It just seemed like at times those chunk plays came far and few in between. Due to what seems to be a lack of creativity. Yet when the game is over. We have 150+ yards rushing. We just want it to loom like the OLD DAYS when every back on in the rotation had a chance of housing it. Due to play call or us just blowing people off the ball. That’s a mother that has been inconsistent. Us just lining up and MOVING people.

I feel we get complacent and predictable running just to throw, rather than leaning on the run more if it's going, and make teams stuff the box to open up bigger chunks down the field passing. Its clear yle is a stud. runs hard through holes, good speed, good pad level running down hill. Mark for his size needs to get his pad level lower, break more tackles.
