Expand the ******* recruiting footprint

You won't land every kid in South Florida, but we are caught with our pants down more often than not on these top kids without having an adequate Plan B. Missing out on top SoFla players can be mitigated if you had commitments from the plethora of Plan B kids. Our list of missing out on Plan B kids is MASSIVE and embarrassing. Whether we mis-recruited them or mis-evaluated them or whatever...just a poor end game throughout four regimes now.

Example...I find it far more offensive to miss out on Skai Moore or Ryan Shazier then I do missing out on Patrick Surtain Jr. or Patrick Peterson.

The recruiting strategy is perfect just need to keep the 5*’s home. Have zero problem with where we’re recruiting though. That’s just nitpicking.

Thats a myth. Only last recruiting class they did and thats because of the transition. LSU pretty much gets who they want in state. But......i wish we would set up shop in New Orleans...those guys love the miami area and would come..
make no mistake saban is a thorn in their side, i talked to a few lsu fans recently and they have similar complaints to guys on this board not that he's taking all of their homegrown talent but he's cherry picking the really high end prospects that everyone wants, Devonta Smith, Cam Robinson a first rounder starting for the jags, Dylan Moses , Landon Collins etc. although they did miss out on securing fournette

They gonna be livid w next years class, which may not even end up in the top 10, but will be loaded w Miami caliber, S. FL centric dogs (this is a good thing btw).
Huh? UM has a great chance at having the nation's #1 class next year. Our class this year was the best in 15 years at UM and next class will put this class to shame.

Agree. I also think 2-3 of the Miami guys we got are really 5 stars but there are so many studs in So Fla that not everyone can get that extra star. I have always thought a 4 star from So Fla is better then a 5 star from Ohio.

I don’t care about having the “best” class. We may not b/c it will be top heavy on the defensive side of the ball. But we’re gonna land top players on the offensive side, just not as many.

And a lot of people missed on skai Moore. Shazier wasn’t a plan b kid. Your analysis is horrible.

Why were Georgia and Texas able to recruit so well without winning ? FSU finished only 3 spots behind us after going 7-6, having to reschedule a bum team just to be bowl eligible, and lost their coach . Why didn’t they have to win ?

Not sure you're point. Is it that they recruited well (but ranked lower than our class)? Or the territory they recruited? Both are still powerhouse programs and should expect to recruit well. Or is it you think they have better classes than what Miami signed?

FSU always recruits GA well (look at the map). Combined FL/GA for FSU is 9 from FL and 7 from GA. Thats approximately 76% of their class and I would bet those numbers are similar to any five year average. Texas looks to be about their usual 80 - 90% Texas signees.

I just keep seeing people say we need to win before we get guys like Campbell and Surtain and other elite guys . I was just using Texas and FSU as examples of teams that still recruited well despite having bad seasons . If we had the season FSU just had theres no way in **** we finish with a class ranked as high as theirs . Taggart finished almost top 10 and he wasn’t on the job very long . And before Jimbo came they were in the same 6-7 7-6 season boat as us and he still managed to sign top-3 classes with multiple 5-stars before winning the title. Why do we have to win to be in it for elite guys but they don’t ?

I dont think we finish top 10 next year. We barely did this year. Not that it matters to me. I could care less as long as we get the players we want.

Miami needs to have a strong focus on South Florida. Some of you sound defeated because we missed on the other 3 AH kids. Look at the rest of the class. Miami killed it in state. We will never bat 1000 down here, too much going against us for that to happen. But if we have more classes like this one will win a lot of games.

Miami has had its first 10 win season since 2003. It takes time for these kids to establish a stronger connection with Miami. Losing 3 in a row didn’t do us no favors but overall Miami still did well recruiting SFLA. Some of you are so irrational and unrealistic it’s mind boggling.

College football is a game of momentum, in every phase. both clemson and bama have significant momentum trending up over the past 10 years, starting with a few big win seasons, more investment, new facilities, more publicity and thus higher profile recruits! This isnt a ******* light switch guys! You can't just flip it and change the minds of everyone. Even Surtain and Campbell are looking at their schools saying the momentum is pointing up while we are just getting moving.

Keep building 10+ win seasons and big recruiting classes and it will work itself out.

the same way Bama comes down here and cherry picks...is the same EXACT thing we need to be doing in the Tidewater area (va), Dallas, Atl, New Orleans. Thats my opinion..and i may be the biggest s.fla homer. Flights are like $150 rt to atlanta. Kansas went down to New Orleans and grabbed a few kids this lass class. That VA area is/has been wide open for some time..fsu cherry picks there when they want.

We have insurged on Jacksonville and thats ALL HARTLEY...what the heck the other coaches doing?.

Im with you GO and JJacks. I guess I just think we did that but still have gaps. And the way to close those gaps is by winning our Bowl games. Not a ship every year but beat Wiscy on your home turf and dont choke to Pitt.

This^ is a bit misleading.

1. Nearly as many boys play football in GA as FL but FL produces almost twice as many 4/5*s.
2. I think you forgot about GT. Also, The entire SEC is camped out in GA along with the rest of the P5...state of Georgia had more kids on more rosters than anywhere else, iirc. Plus, Valdosta, as youknow, is closer to Tallahassee than to Athens and the same can be said about Lagrange to Auburn/Tuscaloosa. UGA has lots of competition.
3. I think Richt and staff will definitely lean on GA more. I expect it.

I, like everyone else, is frustrated about not getting top 5*s from SFL but let’s be real: Miami just signed an incredible class. And, it has the type of talent that Miami can win with; and it’s way ahead of any team in the ACC not named Clemson. Richt and Diaz need to have them coached up for games in a way that matches their talent level (no more sneaking by inferior teams)…dominant wins. Actually capitalizing off of turnovers... Because the reality is that if Miami isn’t dominating with superior talent, then just getting more 5*s isn’t the answer. A dominant Miami establishes a beachhead south of I-4.

Miami is yet to earn the right to be the default school for SFL 5*s who can go anywhere.

Not trying to argue anything here with you as I agree with most of what you said, however there as many 4/5 stars in Ga as Fla in 2019, and I did not include Tech because they will not sign a one of them.

We barely finished top 10? Every site has us in the 6-8 range. Stop crying.
No ones crying, mt friend. Check the signing day posts. I was one of the main ones celebrating our class. We finished 8th or lower if were being honest.

Who cares. We got our players, which is all that matters and all Im saying.

Another Unhappy Cane Fan! Never happy! We recruited the number 7 class in the nation, 1 in the State, 2 in the ACC. The best athletes are in Florida, not in Alabama, Mississippi, DC area!!!

Miami is doing better in north Florida and Georgia than it's ever done.

Those are 2 of the best areas in the country to go.

The key isn't recruiting players from anywhere in the country but getting the players from anywhere in the country.

The more we produce on the field, the easier it'll be to cherry pick top talent around the country - just like we've always done when we've been nationally competitive.

Tired of this man! Happy for the kids to sign with top programs, but man Miami never lands the "top" players from South Florida. From a recruiting strategy, why are you going all in on players without any viable backup options? Just like kids want to leave South Florida to play ball, kids want to come to Miami and play ball! I've lived in Bama, Louisiana, and Texas and there's no shortage of love for the U in some of these places.

I don’t care as much about having the best class as I do balancing this teams positions....we are in year three of the Richt regime and we still have position groups out of whack.

Not sure what the strategies are sometimes other than “ we got a great class coming next year”.Dont know about you guys but I’m tired of waiting til next year only to have next year turn into waiting for the following year.

I see your point and this is my take on it...

Miami HAS to win because Miami has 15 years of futility and Mark Richt has 15 years of being an excellent but possibly not elite coach in the minds of recruits/their coaches. Hermans, Smart, Taggart and Mullins (and Pruitt this year) don’t have a real P5 resume to recruit negatively against; they’re getting a pass - but make no mistake they all have HUGE brands (and incredible recruiting territories) behind them helping their efforts. And Smart and Pruitt can sell that they’re now Alabama/Saban east and north because they recruited MOST of the athletes playing in the NC game for both Alabama and Georgia. That seems to be forgotten.

But, like Dooley and Jones, and McElwain and Muschamp, that pass ... has an expiration date. Jones was Hermans before he got exposed. Muschamp was Strong before he got exposed (Kirk Ferentz is never leaving Iowa; he’s not going to become any team’s Bret Bielema). And when they get exposed it’s hard to get top talent to consistently trust the remnants of “the process”. South Bend, IN has been a graveyard for once promising coaches (Davie, Willingham, Weiss...) and they all got the recruiting benefit of the doubt...for a while.

Richt doesn’t need “more talent” to get the top recruits to believe right now, he needs more signature wins against higher ranked opponents and big games while not losing to the Pitt’s of CFB. There is more than enough talent on the team CURRENTLY for Miami to go undefeated into the ACCCG.
Ok I feel you on that . A lot of it probably does have to do with coaches and I almost forgot how sh1tty our head coaches have been for the past decade . Not only that , our assistants been trash as **** too . Ain’t pulling 5-Star DBs with corny *** Paul Williams . We still don’t have the caliber of staff we should at Miami as far as assistants go
