Emory… also not hurt

I also compared Cam Ward to Charlie Ward. Do you have a problem with that too since he’s even older than Danny Wuerfel? Maybe I did that ibecause I’m old not because I cant find somebody more up to date to compare him to.
Comment wasn’t directly aimed at you, this **** has been going on for years with Miami fans wanting the next Dorsey and I knew it would ramp up after last night. Every “comp” for Emory is Ken Dorsey or prior. There are tons of recent comps for Cam from successful teams/programs even if Charlie Ward is an older one.

The game has changed. Athletes aren’t being pushed to skill positions from peewee anymore. Willingly putting yourself a man down offensively is stubborn. Emory is a great option to have as a backup that can come in and not lose you games, but that shouldn’t be what you want in a starter. We have seen glimpses of what Miami can do with a qb that can extend plays and be a threat running and big surprise, it’s the 3 best looking teams we’ve had in at least the last decade even though one of those QBs couldn’t throw.

I’m confused, I don’t think anyone is actually asking for Emory to bench Cam lol. However, Cam isn’t back next year, he could be the guy next year. Kid could play.

I don’t think anyone is saying start Emory next year but more he looked very good. He showed great accuracy , anticipation and control of the offense .

For him to play qb in today’s football he’ll need the intangibles and tangibles he does have. His smarts and work ethic are top shelf. But he’ll need to have elite accuracy , anticipation , touch and a quick release to make up for not having prototypical arm strength with athletic ability. “ If “ he were to be the qb we’ll have great skill guys and OL which is always a good recipe.

That said coaches think a lot more of him than most fans and teammates love him. They believe there’s potential for him being a future starter. I guess we’ll see .

Never said anyone was calling for that. Talking next year.

he's another ken Dorsey type if he gets it to click.

He did look a little better physically. You are onto something tho, last year when he started, the team really rallied around him.

If Cam has a long term injury I expect Emory to start in his place. He is clearly the 2nd best QB on this team.

I also expect Emory to be the starter next season. Like Dawson told us last year, Emory is made to play QB.
Our qb will be from the portal in my opinion.

Ward is a really good comparison. Ward was elite for that era extending plays. What is also setting Ward apart right now is his release is elite.

Loyalty and familiarity certainly bias me in favor of Emory. I love players who are developed within the UM system.

And nothing against Poff who can be good, but I think what separates Emory from so many players is his leadership. He will never have Cam’s arm talent but with the right team of talented players around him, he will be a big time winner. He isn’t a 1 man show like Cam was at WSU. But he can really run the team as we saw even last year as a true freshman against our 2 toughest opponents.
Overall goal is to recruit and develop. Not have to use portal.

Easier said than done.

Emory looked great, sitting behind a vet and great player will help him become a better player for us in the future. Maybe the starter next year. Cam is showing him how you need to work to be a professional.
I 1 Million percent agree

So, had Emory been made the #2 behind Cam before the Ball State game? I had been seeing Poff and Emory listed together, or even Poff as #2.

You will see Poff the rest of the way unless Cam is hurt. Emory is the #2.

The best one I can think of is JJ McCarthy, but I share your suspicions about going back to a pocket QB... even if he's really solid... 2800 yards, 27 TDs, 6 Ints, 70% and so on. It's not good enough anymore. I suppose it is if Miami becomes extremely dominant running the ball and on the defense.
Let me say this, if Emory gets us to the playoffs 2 years straight then I am willing to deal with his lack of mobility and lack of pure NFL talent. Let's say Cam gets us to 13-1 at some point this year... then Emory to 12-2 and 12-2, sign me up.

McCarthy is exponentially more athletic than Emory. His ability to run was key in at least one of their playoff games (blanking on which one, but they were backed up on their own goal line and he ripped off a decent run, and was a good passer on the run as well)

And I mean, obviously if we can see into the future and Emory takes us to back to backs playoffs sign me up. But I just don’t see it. Have never seen it. I think he’d need the rest of the team to absolutely dominate, and that just doesn’t happen every week. Eventually you run into a defensive line that can generate pressure, and then you look like Oklahoma when they had Bradford and ran into SEC teams.

And if you can’t parlay what is looking like a Heisman contention and draft stock raising season into another elite transfer, what are we doing.
