DT Simeon Barrow, Jr. commits to Miami

Having flashes after being in college for 5 years is exactly why he's not better. JHH has been inconsistent as a starter throughout his career. 1 or 2 games of good play followed by 3 or 4 more of average play. If JHH played the way he did vs VA Tech in 21 for the entirety of his career he would've already declared for the draft by now, but his problem is that in 5 years (going into 6 this season), he cannot string together good performances.

He also has been a mostly below average to average Run defender, hence why we've needed to take multiple DT's via the Portal over the last 3 seasons.

It's a comparison of upside production vs precedent production. A fully bought in JHH gave us 3TFL's & 2 sacks last year.

Did we bring in player that can duplicate that same production, is younger & has the possibility to be better? I'd say objectively we did.
One of the other things I mentioned with Barrow was if he does come in ready to work, is that I personally love what Guidry does with the DL. He’s had a bit of a history getting more out of less (not to make too many blanket statements)

Barrow could be in line to make a big move this year. A bit disheartened to see what’s been going on but also I mentioned in the D$ thread as well I can’t say too much because I have no clue what the truth is there

So I don’t want to say Guidry can get more out of JHH and not apply the same logic to a more proven player in Barrow

I have a strong psychic belief that record temperatures did indeed play a role in Barrow's decision to leave.

He's a significant upgrade from JHH, he graded out better than him across the board in every category.

In fact, JHH's best game last year was against Bethune Cookman. His best game against a P4 opponent was Clemson. But he didn't have a single game with an above 70 grade in either Run Defense or Pass Rush.

If Barrow gives us exactly what he gave Mich ST last year, that's an exponential improvement from what we had.
Was never a JHH fan, I didn't understand the hype.

The potential due to size+athleticism, just kinda crazy jhall is arguing with one of our most respected posters when barrow is objectively better across the board in a conference that's known for oline play if anything
Heaven forbid someone disagree with Memnon

JHH wasn’t very good. I don’t think Barrow is either

Sorry I don’t just rollover because someone says a lot of words

We're all entitled to our opinions, let's kick a*s 8/31 and we'll all have a big kumbaya after
I agree. As I explained a bit further Barrows nonsense lately is disheartening. He’s not good enough to mess around like that.

But I’m with you this is sitting here debating stuff that really doesn’t matter in the grand scheme.

We transformed the team. The offense should be a juggernaut. Barrow should absolutely help the defense

No more excuses and something Memnon said that I definitely agree with is that it’s perfect that our first game is against Florida. What a way to say we are back by wrecking those dudes in their own barn

I'm not singing Barrows praises either. We won't truly know if its an upgrade until meaningful games get played. LCE misses just like the rest of us the pedestals are crazy lmao.

Great. Another guy who sucks vs Rutgers.
Hey guess what. The entire starting OSU DL (the one that was just ranked #1 / 2 spots ahead of ours) sucked against Rutgers to the tune of 6.1 yards a carry last year. Yeah that Rutgers RB and OL ran all over their starters. 🤷‍♂️

The sneak shots people take at me are even crazier.

I've never said I'm never wrong or that no one can disagree with me. People disagree with me most of the time, all I ever ask is for proof to support a claim, it's really that simple. But the difference is, when I am wrong I have no problem with admitting I am & taking my L, but on the other hand, when I'm right it's always quiet as a church mouse & tumbleweeds rolling. Which is funny, but comes with the territory.

I hope you aren't implying that was a shot at you. I am stating that just because someone has an opinion that is respected they arent above reproach. The only thing that matters is how you choose to disagree. I try to keep it respectful until line gets crossed. I have no dog in the Barrow/JHH debate because I haven't ever watched Barrow play. My shots always come direct.

Nah not at all, I was speaking in general.

I see them all the time, I just rarely ever say anything because I understand it's actually a sign of respect.

I agree with you here. JHH and Barrow seem interchangeable to me. We have adequate not great starting DTs. Have to hope the young guys and our OL push them so hard in practice that they maximize their talents.
