DT Simeon Barrow, Jr. commits to Miami

You mean you wanna talk.....football? All right, man.

If you go by the numbers, Barrow's been way more productive than any Cane DT since 2021.

However, Michigan State ranked 68th in rush defense in 2023.

However again, Michigan State ranked 17th in yards per rush; 2nd in rush TDs allowed.

Good luck figuring all of that out but we should be grateful because LSU thought he was theirs back in late April: https://www.tigerdroppings.com/rant...arrows-on3-prediction---100-to-lsu/113148885/

The guy is good enough to prevent other teams from exploiting a weakness up the middle. DT won’t win games this season. But it won’t lose games either. Our DEs will most likely man 3 spots or even the entire line on passing downs anyway. And the future is bright.

Yeah, I think you're overacting to a simple weather report from the news station.

And it was a simple comment about an overreaction.

“Check on the vulnerable!” Lol it’s a 90 degree summer day in Florida.

Yes, I actually want to talk football. So we actually have a defensive tackle that will play like Miami defensive tackle…well maybe

No, I want to talk weather not football.

Do you think the cooler mid-high 80s weather swayed him to stay here? He probably thought "Hey it's not that bad."

I agree with you rok, it's probably the first time he had ever experienced 100 degree heat AND humidity. I was ready to move out of South Florida that week too.

So according to CIS, neither DTs, nor CBs will lose you games...

Here's to never letting up on offense so neither matter...

Our team is going to be better with him.

I'm glad I was not caught up in the drama. I still don't know what was going on. But, glad he's going to be on the team this year because he gives you a legit, draftable interior defensive lineman. ymmv on ceiling and upside, but I think the floor is very nice.

The reality is, Guidry's defense will yield a pretty good run defense rating. Last year we were pretty nice by years end.

We have to not only replace 8.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss on the interior at minimum. It was spread out over a good number of players, but that's production that needs to be replaced. Its also absolutely not good enough at this university either and must be upgraded.

Barrow has been a pretty consistent performer over his career, so, if projecting, he alone can get you 4 of those sacks and 6 of those TFL on his own. Marley Cook maybe gets you 3 and 6. CJ Clark maybe gets you 2 and 4. Just looking at career averages. Probably all plays a little higher considering they should be playing the best football of their lives with the NFL on the line. It looks like we've consolidated production and got stronger, mostly in part, of a guy like Simeon Barrow. You'll still be able to get use your time wisely with Scott. Jones and Blount. Use them to get time, but be smart about it. Moten and Horton aren't absolutely relied on and can be used as primary backups.

That, coupled with the additions of Alston, Baron on the outside, Mesidor coming back, our own Reuben Bain as one of the best defensive linemen in the nation...Mauigoa, Alderman, Bissainthe will get in the backfield a lot as well. Going to be a really good year for the front seven. Its going to be productive and Barrow is supposed to be a key piece of that.

I’m with you.

I watched a few of their games after we got him and he very much reminded me of JHH

I was bummed JHH bolted because I think we missed out on his best year given his experience, maturity, familiarity with the system etc so he could have had a really good season for us. Not sure though and now we will never know. But same could be said for this guy. Not a world beater but he can get better just like everyone, and I personally really like what Guidry does with his DL so it could be a perfect fit.

Sounds about right. Hopefully he saved his best for last.
He's a significant upgrade from JHH, he graded out better than him across the board in every category.

In fact, JHH's best game last year was against Bethune Cookman. His best game against a P4 opponent was Clemson. But he didn't have a single game with an above 70 grade in either Run Defense or Pass Rush.

If Barrow gives us exactly what he gave Mich ST last year, that's an exponential improvement from what we had.

This guy is definitely better than JHH. JHH is good, but about hit his ceiling as a 3-star player here, but every team in the nation takes a Barrow for Harrison-Hunte swap. I think JHH will do well in SMU, too. Elijah Roberts balling out and now being recognized as a Top 100 player nationally probably slants my opinion, considering JHH was always significantly ahead of him on the depth chart here, so I have to assume JHH will improve his production out there, but that doesn't mean SMU themselves wouldn't take this either, hypothetically.

We essentially took the production of 5 players and consolidated it into 3 on the interior and all are better scheme fits. Clark is a better and more willing NT option than Leonard Taylor and we now have some versatility behind him to get him reps elsewhere to see if he can flash rushing the passer. And considering the latter didn't get drafted, I think its safe to say Clark has a higher draftable ceiling than Taylor. Marley Cook provides at least a theoretical upgrade over Thomas Gore despite some similar questions. Barrow provides legit All-Conference level production into the mix, something the rest of the roster couldn't account for. Nevermind the five and fourstars and our developmental tackles (Moten/Horton). This should be a room ready for battle. These guys have played a lot of football, the next guys up are a year older. The young guys have sky high talent and should be able to flash with limited snaps.

I just see us having a nice room now. Not up to bar necessarily. I am sure we'd like more size and higher end talent...but this is a good room now. Significantly upgraded just by reconfiguration.
