Right... We all know this... But a lot of the allure for ANY defensive player coming here is to learn from Jason Taylor...Jason Taylor is not leaving south florida and Coach Salave'a handles the interior dlinemen!

Why would you say such an evil thing! Don't speak such things into existence!!!Whenever the dolphins come calling that’ll be it unfortunately
Speaking of Chaminade schedule, last year was tough but this year it’s absolutely brutal. They face St John Bosco, Blanche Ely, AH, STA, Norland, Monarch, Western and Cardinal Gibbons. Only Avante Garde had a losing record last year at 5-6 and Edison went 6-5. Every other team had 9 or more wins.I really like this pickup. Under the radar kid from a local feeder school who the staff thinks is about to have a breakout senior year. I saw the Junior highlights and think this is a great evaluation by the staff.
At 6'4" 295 lbs he has great size on a college frame. Some have said Simpson is a project. To that I say that when as a junior you have 43 tackles 19.5 TFL 7.5 Sacks 3 FF 2 FR and a Pick Six as a starter at one of the best programs in the nation in Chaminade Madonna playing against the toughest competition in South Florida then I don't think project is the right adjective. Right now he is a 3 star player just like many very good/great prospects are/were. Cam Pruitt was a 3 star. Cole McConathy was a 3 star. Anez Cooper was a 3 star. As were many many others.
In a sense, practically every DT recruit is a project since it is a position that generally takes years to grow and mature into the type of body the position requires to be effective.
No that doesn't necessarily mean a project. No more then Anez Cooper was a project. This staff has shown the ability to recognize talent in many cases before it manifests itself for all to see. Butch Davis had this gift. Simpson is a 3 star just beginning to come on. That doesn't make him a project. His senior year will determine that. The staff wanted to get in on this kid before he blew up his senior year and had more suitors after him.
Also, not being ready for first or second year doesn't mean the player was a project. That's the normal learning curve. Especially for a DT.
So in your last sentence you say that he's a project because he would be a project to keep around. However in your first sentence you say you disagree with me because since he goes to a powerhouse program in Chaminade then why was Maryland his top suitor? I don't know, maybe because he is 16? Maybe because he didn't start to really give evidence of his talent and potential until last year. That hardly matters since we just offered and flipped him before he has played a down of his senior season. Why would Mario and staff go fishing for kids they know to be "projects" before they play their senior year? We may not have had any DTs committed prior to Simpson but we were hardly in desperation mode.I'd disagree. He's at a program that anyone from wherever who recruits S. FL knows. There had to be a reason why Maryland was his top caller until we came and changed it up for him.
There is no reason to compare Mario or anyone on this staff yet to Butch or his staff. He's been a head coach long enough, longer than Butch when he started assembling his supremely talented roster. I'm by no means swinging from Botch's nuts, in fact that's what I always have called him, but that man and staff found talent.
As for all of this talent they see before it manifests itself, can you give some examples. I've seen a pretty detailed analysis of Mario recruits and that's not how I'd describe it.
I haven't watched a lick of this kids film. I hope he develops like a m'fer this year and on into the future. I'm all for our kids finding success on and off the field.
I do agree that not being ready in a players first or second year doesn't necessarily mean they're a project. In particular on the lines. You used to have to wait your turn, but today it's a different game. Players bolt all the time after their first or second year when they'd be better off staying, working, and improving. While that is true, they expect playing time (usually undeserved) early on and teams give it to them. It's a tough time to ask for patience and the time to develop their skills. In particular their strength, body, endurance, and the mental aspect of the game. That's why I said project, ****, it's a project to keep them around.

When it comes to your last paragraph, I absolutely agree 100%. Maybe we should just agree to disagree on the rest.
With his young age hopefully they mold him in the lab longer and take their time with him. Then unleash him once he’s physically ready. Dnt rush this kid.
