Do we have a Playoff Roster?

At the end of the day, the defensive performance in that Syracuse obviously will always fall on Mario. I don’t disagree with you there. However, the original person I replied to claimed that Mario’s decision to take the field goal was the reason we lost, which is absurd. His game-day coaching/decisions definitely improved from 2023
Late to a response here, but not only was that call to kick vs go for it w the #1 offense baffling but re: coaching, my guy how do you lose any game that you had a 3 touchdown lead and a combo of RB’s that can gain yardage and slow down the game? It was atrocious coaching all game long.

The decision to turn to Lyle up multiple TDs instead of bashing em to death with Martinez was mind boggling to say the least.

Let’s see what happens in the portal first.

Need an experienced LB.
Need an experienced DT.
Need an experienced WR.

Then let’s talk.

Just take your thoughts back to that GT game last year, remember who this team is and how it’s coached. Breath deep. There, I hope that reset your brains to what we are working with here before you have us winning the MNC.

I agree, blowing a 3 touchdown lead is atrocious and at the end of the day, the defensive performance falls on the head coach. The original claim was that the decision to go for 3 completely lost us the game, which is simply just not true. To me, I feel like you just take the points there because you needed a stop regardless of if you were down 4,7 or tied.

Safety makes 2 horrible plays early giving up an easy TD. Safety no longer on the team.

Backup S is in late, makes wrong read, gives up back breaking 3rd and 17.

Offense plays worst game of the season, bad on 3rd downs which was uncharacteristic.

Cam tries to play hero ball late, and fumbles when he should have checked down.

GT also showed they weren't a bad team when they went on road few weeks later to UGA, and got robbed by the refs.

Bad players for sure especially on defense, but atrocious decisions by our coaches on offense that game.

1. Not taking the easy FG right before half. We weren’t down by that much yet.

2. Wrong personnel and wrong play call on that 4th and 1 early in the 3rd qtr at GT’s 39. We haven’t been stopped all year with Martinez, or Fletcher running the ball in 4th and 1. Martinez isn’t even on the field and we try a pass to Fletcher out of the backfield. Why?

3. Going for it on 4th and goal from GT’s 20. Extremely difficult to get a TD there. Still 10 min left in the game. A FG cuts the lead to 9. So we still need a TD and FG to win with 10 min left to play. Means we have to stop GT twice, which we did. I know we had a hard time doing that until they went ultra conservative, which they did protecting the lead.

I think we most definitely have a playoff roster. The question for me is. Do we have a head coach that is capable of getting this team into the playoffs without ****ing his pants and ****ting the bed like he did the last 2 seasons.

Especially after last season. With that offense and that schedule? It’s inexcusable that he wasn’t able to get that squad into the playoffs.

Agree the 4th down decisions didnt work this game, but team had been good at them all season. I see both sides of the decision.

RB rotation usually decided by RB coach unless OC steps in, but Fletch is good in short yardage situations. I would have had Martinez in too, but a 230 pound back that doesnt lose yardage isnt a bad option.

I don’t mind Fletcher in there if we were going to run the ball. Like Martinez, he was basically unstoppable all year in short yardage situations. Crazy how our running game did a complete 180 in 2024 when it came to picking up those tough yards. Years past, we would have been stuffed.

Anyway, pound the ball the Fletcher. He’s nowhere near as smooth and coordinated as a receiver out of the backfield. He’s ok when he can be used as more of a check down when he’s just standing 5 yards from the qb and can turn and run with an open field. If we are going to pass there, throw to a TE or Restrespo. I think he was pretty clutch all year when we decided to throw in those short yardage situations.

WIP. Will revisit in July. The better question is “Will we have a playoff roster”?

Bear in mind we’re going to lose guys to the portal. too. You know DE is going to see at least a couple of guys from 2024 testing the market now that Lowe is passing them up. Let’s hope the new pickups far outweigh the ship jumpers.

I'm not sure Miami has the front 7 on defense to be a playoff roster. Wont be able to tell that until a few weeks into the season.

Also, going to state this again. Bell is closer to being a UDFA than he is a 1st round pick so lets pump the breaks there
