Do we have a Playoff Roster?

My guy, there is a **** ton of narratives that are pushed out by this staff. Taking the ones that hit and acting like they’re batting 1.000 on everything we hear is NUTS!! We also heard best DL in the country, we also heard hype about players that didn’t show anything. We also heard last year people call this defense top 15 statistically. Again, THIS TIME LAST YEAR GUIDRY HAD GOTTEN A RAISE!!

Markell Bell IS NOT a shoe in lol!! Did you even watch him last year?! McCoy is a RS JR. Unless he plays like a first rounder, which we have not seen at all, he’ll be back.

And ahhh yes! The ole, try and discredit his opinion by attacking his fandom because he doesn’t sunshine pump, act!! Yeah man, I totally want Miami to fail, that’s why I’m on CIS before noon discussing Miami football with you, it’s soooo obvious. A fan could never just simply have a different view on things. That’s preposterous! Every other fanbase is totally uniform and aligned in their views of the team!
Notice how the people who actually attended practices and gave us information were never the ones that said the dline had the chance to be one of the best in the country lol.

So a guy going into his 4th year of college can only go pro if he plays at a first round level? Sometimes players want to take the route to the NFL when they have the chance without risking further injury in college. Also, notice how Mario said 4 to 5, which implies that it’s dependent on MCcoy entering or not lol. Also note how I literally said “potentially the 5th guy”

I know you and your crews game. You go on here and put vomit emojis whenever there is a good update, and you constantly bash Mario and the team. You’d rather see the team have a bad season so you can parade around telling everyone I told you so. You act like people here live under a rock lol

I think we seriously have the talent it’s a matter of coming together, injuries aside, if we play as one i think this is a playoff team. With all the $ some making more than others this is a concern.

Dude, are you serious? You can’t be serious lol.

Anyway,

If McCoy gets drafted after this year bro ill tattoo your Danny Boy avi on my ***.

I literally have no crew and don’t think I’ve ever once used a vomit emoji.

I would much rather parade around that we won something! And actually lived up to the hype instead of underachieving every year and losing games when we’re up 21-0. And not winning anything except 10 games in a year “All In” year. Forgive me for being cautiously pessimistic

If we don’t have a playoff roster, that means you know 12 teams that have a better roster than UM.

So in my weekly, sometimes daily, effort to challenge CIS posters to do more than just post with emotion, please answer the following question.
‘Name the 12 teams with better rosters than Miami’.

If you can’t name the teams, then you cannot definitively say Miami does not have a playoff roster.

I don’t know if Miami has a playoff roster because I don’t know enough about the rosters of other teams to provide an educated opinion.
So provide an educated opinion.

In reality there are usually like 2top elite Rosters, another 4 really great rosters, and then about 8-12 "in the mix" rosters where if some guys hit and step up then they could definitely be at the top too (especially if it's a QB that is great). And then there will be one G5 Program that makes cfp. So out of really 11 spots, there's like 14-18 teams that can likely call themselves a playoff caliber roster imo

Compared to what I’ve seen the past couple seasons in the playoffs, yes. Some prior seasons, no. But I’m buoyed by the fact that there doesn’t seem to be superstar QBs which should make it a fairly competitive playoff where any team can be champ.

Cristobal busted a myth for me. Up until last season, I always thought that the only thing really separating UM from the top tier teams was a QB. I remember when Cam Newton carried a mediocre Auburn team to a championship and thought, “It’s so simple. We just need our own Cam, and everything will fall into place.” And my wish came true- we got our very own Cam. Now was Ward as good as Newton? No, Newton was on a different level- however Ward will be the #1 pick and was clearly the best QB in the country. And despite that we didn’t even make the playoffs or even the conference championship in a weak conference. Beck isn’t as good as Ward. That’s not a slight, not many qbs are. If we couldn’t make the playoffs with Ward, I don’t have a lot of faith we will make the playoffs with Beck, even though some other positions on the team might show marginal improvement.
Didn't that Auburn team have a stout defense? That was the team with that two-headed monster at DT that caused havoc against other offenses. Or, am I confusing Auburn teams?

53rd ranked D in terms of PPG allowed (24.1). Our D that year gave up 20.7 ppg. So stats say an overall average D, but I don’t really remember them so maybe the stats don’t tell the full story.

Of the Top 5 programs in scoring offense last year, 2 made the playoffs.
Of the Top 5 programs in scoring defense last year, 3 made the playoffs.
One team that was top 5 in both categories, Ole Miss, did not make the playoffs.
UM was 1st in Scoring offense and 70th in Scoring defense.

If any program fit underachiever status last year, it’s Ole Miss.
UM was what it was, an offense without a defense.
Balance is what it takes to win, you don’t have to have the #1 offense, but you can’t have one side of the ball at 70th.

First off, we were down 12 with under 10 minutes to go. What good does a field goal do you when you’re down by that much and don’t know how many more times you’ll get the ball. We were lucky to even get the ball two more times

Also, what makes you think the field goal would have changed the outcome of the game? On the last possession, we couldn’t even get it passed our own 25 yard line before turning it over so it wouldn’t have even mattered.

The Syracuse game was a completely different scenario. You were only down one score, so taking the field goal is fine in that scenario lol. Regardless of whether we went for it or not, we still needed a stop lol. Let's say we went for it and score. Cool its tied. However, it doesn't change the fact that we still had to go out there and keep them for taking the lead again.
You don’t go for 4th and 16 with 10 minutes left and down 12 points, in FG range. That’s a desperation act. You take the points and you’re down 9 with 10 minutes to play. Much more manageable.

And I’m arguing that Ward probably doesn’t try to make something happen and get sacked and fumble, if he knows he only needs 45 yards to set up a game winning FG, with over a minute left, rather than needing 80 yards and a TD with a minute left.
Situational football. HC’s that do the above in the NFL, get fired. 4th and 16 in the red zone is such a low % play, you’re accepting defeat. Take the points, change the momentum, and then worry about making two stops in 10 minutes. It’s really not that difficult.

Finally a smart football take

Nah Lane Kiffin is the chosen one, we would be building him a statue already if he was here instead of Mario

You are correct. Auburn’s defense was average that year. They were good against the bums and average to below average against teams with a pulse. Yes, their D was better than ours this year, but that’s not saying much.

They did have Nick Fairley on the DL, who was a monster, but that was about it. They also made a few stops here and there in key moments, unlike our defense.
