Do we have a Playoff Roster?

I'm not sure we had a playoff roster last year, because the defense was so bad defending the pass it offset the playoff caliber offense.

It was more a talent issue in the backend IMO than coaching.

You lost Kam, James, Tecory, and Davis.

Didnt replace adaquately.

The same DC year before put a competent defense on the field.

I think Miami has a top 12 roster if Beck is healthy.
The talent was below average on defense but the coaching was absolutely horrendous and pathetic, I for one am glad we cleaned house.

i just remember the BS fed about emory all year last year and some even saying he may be better than Cam bc he wont look for the money plays lol. dude is trash and should never have been a Canes QB. same with judd.
Anybody who ever lobbied for emory williams to play over Cam Ward should be loaded up on a human sized slingshot and shot into outer space.

Cristobal busted a myth for me. Up until last season, I always thought that the only thing really separating UM from the top tier teams was a QB. I remember when Cam Newton carried a mediocre Auburn team to a championship and thought, “It’s so simple. We just need our own Cam, and everything will fall into place.” And my wish came true- we got our very own Cam. Now was Ward as good as Newton? No, Newton was on a different level- however Ward will be the #1 pick and was clearly the best QB in the country. And despite that we didn’t even make the playoffs or even the conference championship in a weak conference. Beck isn’t as good as Ward. That’s not a slight, not many qbs are. If we couldn’t make the playoffs with Ward, I don’t have a lot of faith we will make the playoffs with Beck, even though some other positions on the team might show marginal improvement.
Yea football is a two way sport, You could have the best QB in the universe but if your defense is non existent then welp....We could of had Auburn Newton out there himself @ QB & im not even sure he's overcoming that defense thats how *** they were.

Bro in general how do you not see Mario got schooled in multiple games, GT, and Syracuse. Mario’s got a ways to go, at some point you should have a head coach who can step in and call some game plan audibles.
If your'e talking this past year GT game I aint gone hold you that was one of Cams worst games. Missed Arroyo Wide open for TDs multiple times and Ignored Checkdowns galore that wouldve kept the chains moving as GT was trying to play the possesion game n Cam played right into it. Even on the potential game winning drive he ignores a player open in the flat dancing around in the pocket and proceeds to fumble the game away. He got much better after that game tho as im sure Dawson got on him n he viewed film n realized sometimes you just take the plays that are there.

What perplexed me was not taking the FG in the GT game when it was 4th and longer and Cam would only have had to get us in FG range on the last drive, instead of having to play hero ball and giving up the sack/fumble. There was plenty of time to get in FG range and I think/hope Cam would have just ditched the ball knowing that. Then the next time we’re in that situation (Cuse) with a much more makeable 4th down, we kick the FG.

Not knocking Mario, but I usually can watch a game and get a feeling for what we’re going to do. Mario doesn’t seem to be in sync with me lol.

I do think we win GT if we kick the FG after the penalty and have 4th and forever.

But as I mentioned before, even JJ made imo the wrong decisions on a couple of kick vs go for it, or go for 2 decisions. And with analytics today, I think HC’s making high football IQ decisions has become a dying art.
First off, we were down 12 with under 10 minutes to go. What good does a field goal do you when you’re down by that much and don’t know how many more times you’ll get the ball. We were lucky to even get the ball two more times

Also, what makes you think the field goal would have changed the outcome of the game? On the last possession, we couldn’t even get it passed our own 25 yard line before turning it over so it wouldn’t have even mattered.

The Syracuse game was a completely different scenario. You were only down one score, so taking the field goal is fine in that scenario lol. Regardless of whether we went for it or not, we still needed a stop lol. Let's say we went for it and score. Cool its tied. However, it doesn't change the fact that we still had to go out there and keep them for taking the lead again.

LB, WR, and RB, due to depth, is not playoff caliber.

Clemson won the ACC, hence making the playoff, with Phil Mafah and 2 three-star backs as the only dudes to get over 100 yards for the entire season (Klubnik not included).

RB is fine with Fletcher, Lyle, and Pringle. You don't need 4 Doak Walker winners to make the playoffs in the ACC. We have 3 high blue-chip kids back there.

We haven't even seen Carson Beck throw a single pass yet.

Our pass catchers have like 30 combined receptions between the 2-deep.

There's like 5 kids on the defensive 4-deep who would start on other power-5 teams.

Could be a great roster. Could be 6-6.

Its too early to tell.
Name them.

So would you bet on it being something like
FS: Poyser / Day
Ss: Lucas / Patterson (or Damari)
OCB: OJ / Karnely
Nickel: Brantley / Damari / Ewald
OCB: O'Connor or Brantley / Antoine or Other
If Lucas moves to Safety, I wouldn’t allocate resources to finding a S in the spring portal. Add Markeith Williams and Ewald to that S room and it’s solid unless a Impact Portal S back channels themselves with interest. Instead I would go all out for a portal WR, LB, and DT. Lighter search/pursuit of another RB.

Day, Patterson and Williams need to play and get reps. We’ll see how their Summer and Fall camps go.

Brantley, Damari, O’Connor, and OJ can hold down the CB position with Lucus at Safety, especially with Ryan Mack, Amari (nickel) and Antoine backing them up.

My immediate thought was "No." but after reading, it is not a bad 22. If they can land two or three impact guys (WR, LB, S, DT) then I would expect a better season overall than last year.

Edit: Notre Dame is going to try and run it down Miami's throat. FSU will be run heavy this year. Same with that goofball Billy Napier calling plays.

Miami needs to shore up the middle of their defense at every level.
On paper, the roster has the greatest blue chip margin in twenty years.

To give an example, here's how the current team compared to the 2015 squad. On paper.

Ehh, we won 10 games last year with a much better team and a weaker schedule, don’t get your hopes up 🫤
One side of the ball was a bottom 10 unit in CFB. I don’t think the offense will be as good but I know the defense won’t be as bad. If the offense is say 8-15 range and the defense say 30-40 range that’s 10 wins.

Is 2024's roster really that much better than this upcoming season? The entire defense will be better in 2025 for starters. Offensive line and running game will be better than 2024. The jury is still out on WR, but if we get a good WR1 that room is really not that far off. You obviously don't have Cam Ward, but people act like Beck is a ginormous drop off. He's about one of the best replacements you could possibly get. I personally love this TE room. 2024 is better because of how dominant Arroyo was, but I think this years TE group is the most underrated room on the team

Lol how do yall just up and figure the D won’t be as bad? Cause we added a couple DBs who are gettin worked in practice by backup QBs and Freshman WRs? This time last year Guidry was getting a raise!!

Are you sure we were a much better team on both sides of the ball last year?
We were a much better team last year, yes, undoubtedly. The offense alone clears what we have on both sides of the ball this year. Not to mention the seniors and experience we had on the team. Y’all are banking on this defense being much improved and giving this team equilibrium. But like I just said, this time last year Guidry was getting a raise. We still have plenty of holes and question marks on the defensive side of the ball right now.

How you figure the OL will be better?? Cam saved that OLs *** MULTIPLE times last season! And the defense will be better because they brought in the 3rd DC in as many years and some DBs?? We’d have to have a 2000 yard rusher for it to even be comparable to last years offense!! You’re talkin a generational offesne vs an improved run game and a TE room you love? Come on now. I can’t believe some of y’all really think this years team is better than or equal to last years team, it’s really just yalls optimism shining through. But in yalls heart yall don’t really believe what yall are saying.

Respect your opinion but I disagree, a lot of the guys we brought in the secondary alone have proven to be good players at their previous schools so its not a situation where you don't know what you have. Lucas, Poyser, O'conner, Brantley have all proven to be good players on the field as long as they're out there, or certainly better then what we trotted out last yr. Last year we knew our secondary was *** n it played out in front of our eyes, so by that logic I expect our defense to be much improved. As far as offense yes we were much better mainly cuz of Ward but Beck (when healthy) is more then capable to leading us to 10 wins behind our O-line and rushing attack. This year we'll be more balanced and even if we aren't "better" then last year saying we're MUCH worse is a stretch IMO
