DL Daylen Russell commits to Miami

I just don't see us having the luxury of NOT taking a seemingly high character kid, with good production, against good competition right in our backyard. A player of the year at that? We can't even let that narrative get out that we aren't recruiting a player of the year in Dade. Tweener or not.

It's probably been said on here already but is he bigger than 6'1 235? He looks a lot heavier to me mainly.. wouldn't really push back on the height.

I like him as a player. I don't think he's twitched up like Kancey but he's that type of profile. I don't blame the staff for taking the productive players in 305 and 954.. nothing sucks worse than letting someone like Kancey go to Pitt or Dorlus go to Oregon because they weren't 6'3-6'4 and 275+ out of HS. Can't let that keep happening.

The guys that blow up in college that weren't highly rated/recruited from tri-county typically produce good stats or flash elite athleticism. Rarely do they just come out of nowhere. Someone saw it coming. When someone catches your eye playing Dade competition, physically, athletically, or via production.... they're probably a take. We've all seen the posts about Kancey, Dorlus, Zay Flowers, etc. AT Perry might be the most out-of-nowhere recently and even he had an elite 40'' vertical. It also took him 3 years to do anything at Wake in that QB/WR factory offense.

Half of Browards HCs know me on a first name basis including Harriot and other Miami Dade HCs like Ice. I’ve forgotten more about SFL FB than most on this board knows.

Riddle me this Einstein, Other than CJ who’s the last explorer to be impactful? And you’re trying to hype up a kid that had for of those “sacks” vs. Doral Academy.
Im with you but Columbus plays a pretty good schedule....

and Palmetto and Homestead are pretty good programs. Homestead is pretty stocked the last 2-3 years actually.

Columbus kids have been hit or miss in collge though i agree

from the short spring clip i seen of a play he appeared to be in that 6'0-6'1 height range and around 250-260. He actually appeared to be the shortest ont heir dline...and that line has Stephenson and another kid i believe botht o be 6'3+.

I dont think he is 6'1 235 currently no.

I comped him to a Teraz Mccray if you can remember him from being a former player here who i believe we offered like right b4 signing day the year he committed.

Teraz had a really good sr szn.

If Daylen Russel could have 13 sacks in his career that would be a solid player here.

It wasnt really a diss...it was a legitimate comp i feel. **** Nesta just got drafted and he didnt have those type of numbers sack wise.

If Russell can comp to McCray, we should all be jumping for joy. Those 2004-2006 DLs were really strong (it was our offense that primarily derailed those teams). And Teraz was a key contributor right away. If not for all his injuries, he might have been better remembered.

Spends how you define “impactful”. Is a starter impactful? Somebody who gets drafted?

Uche at Michigan
Jobe at Bama
Parrish at Miami
Harrell at Louisville before the injury.

That’s just not true. There was a contingent of posters that wanted Kancey. Most of us didn’t know who Russell was until a couple of weeks ago. A better example would be Lavonte David but Kancey is a false equivalence.
Yes LaVonte Davis is another prime example of an underrated player that got away.

Good comp.. I was like 13-14 back in his playing time but remember him a little bit. Wouldn't complain if we got that production from him.

If you recruit elite 4-5 stars you have to have a share of blue-collar, hard working grinders with a chip on their shoulder to pair with them. Guys you know, or think you know, that won't transfer in a year or 2. Seems like a fit for that. Might be a starter on the back-end of his career like Teraz if he develops and there's a need. Ideally, a good locker room, depth/rotational piece.

I'll have to take a look at the spring clips. I've only viewed the junior clips.....and the first name to pop into my head was a former Dolphin, William Hayes. A guy who was more run defender than pass rusher but played the edge well in that role.
