DL Daylen Russell commits to Miami

So you have absolutely no answer to why we should fawn over Jason Taylor’s opinion other than Mario hired him and he’s lived that life…

I would have been more convinced with you saying his sister is hot, thin and not a pain in the ***…

I literally addressed that in my post:

"And this isn't the type of thing where you need a PHD to get in the room. The man has lived that life. So yeah, JT's thoughts ******* matter. A lot."

Was it an ask too much for me to think you would understand that a lifetime of elite (literally, hall of fame level success) success in the sport of football, not to mention showing the work ethic to grind at STA (and be elevated to DC there) are legitimate credentials?

So yes, I had an answer. You just glossed right over it to further your agenda.

You can mope yourself into a corner on this all you want, @Angry Ibis, but you can't rain on my parade. Good things are happening. Landing JT was a massive, massive coup.

Asking about Jason Taylor is a fair question. You can drink Kool aid all you want and assume I’m moping.

There is an entire thread about a HoFer that “lived that life” and the majority of the board likes to think that guy is an imbecile.

I don’t think it is overly unfair to dig in a bit on Taylor to understand more about him or be cautiously optimistic, when last year’s all star offseason cast, which he was a part of, “lived that life” as successful college football coaches and gave us the worst on field production in some folk’s lifetimes…

Well, there actually is an answer.

If JT likes the kid and believes in the kid, then he is motivated to develop the kid's positives and minimize his weaknesses. This is different from when another coach (be it the head coach or the chief recruiting coach) offers a kid that perhaps the position coach is not sold on.

I'm not saying this will make Daylen an All-American or anything, but it's a good starting point to have your position coach be excited to have you in the class.

He isn’t “explosive” athletically, but he has good speed for his size. This many posters down on him.

His tape isn’t very well put together and that does influence people’s perception of a recruit.

That tape was long. The things that stood out to me are he is STRONG at the point of attack. He was resetting the line of scrimmage constantly and eating double teams like a bag of chips. He also has very high awareness and a nose to the ball. He can set the set edge and cause congestion play side and runs down plays that go away from him.

The thing I wonder is why are there so few pass plays on his tape. On the few pass plays on there, he gets to the quarterback very easily. There should be more quarterback pressures. That tape doesn’t scream Dade County DPOY. We were very meh on Chris Johnson do to his incompetently made highlight tape and I am wondering if the same thing is happening here.

He isn’t as unathletic as Flagg. My problem with Flagg is he didn’t develop as much strength wise and hasn’t shown the elite awareness that made him a star in high school. If Russell’s awareness doesn’t translate to this level, we will be disappointed with a lot of “I told you so” in the forum. If it does, we will be pleasantly surprised with a disruptive run stopper who is sneaky good getting to the quarterback.

I really want to see how Chatz develops. People forget this is only his third year. I wouldn’t give up on him just yet.
Highlight tapes are not evals. I’m positive the coaches watched multiple game tapes to see what he’s doing when he’s not in on the play or ball isn’t going his way.

Unless anyone here has watched two full game tapes on him, you can not say with certainty that he’s a jag but this is a message board so highlights/stars are what everyone obviously is looking at.

I sure hope JT is “motivated” to get the most he possibly can from every kid in the room regardless of his feelings, that is his job.

We’ve seen us get 3 star after 3 star for years, and seen us fail miserably on the field. We have seen this, but you haven’t. Who’s blind?
I’ve seen our coaching being sh*t and then some of these 3 stars have successful runs in the league.

we've gotten 4 star after 4 star too and failed on the field

recruiting wasn't the issue losing to the likes of middle Tennessee state, duke, and FIU
And the list of teams that have been tougher and played harder over the years many were full of 3 stars.
