DL Daylen Russell commits to Miami

It’s message board discourse and sometimes it gets a bit choppy. I don’t feel bad for the kid whatsoever and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t care what people on here said. He was given the green light by the staff and is now a Miami commit. Life is good for him. In terms of keyboard scouts, you ain’t wrong but that’s the point of the board. The one area that I trust Mario is recruiting but that doesn’t mean he is beyond reproach. This commitment naturally sparked some controversy as it should have. That all said, kid looks like he will sign here as of this moment, so he has my support and I hope he is the next Geno Atkins.

I disagree wholeheartedly that this kid isn't bothered by the fans of his future team questioning his ability and whether he should be a take. The hope should be he has developed thick enough skin and realizes the fans that feel that way have most likely never challenged themselves enough to be in a position worthy of being judged or failing.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm good with that. But we've got a bunch of posters that have beaten him down in multiple threads and in double-digit posts as if stating their opinion once without everyone acknowledging them is unacceptable.

You sir, are a man of culture and wit. That is one of my favorites. Now this may sound crazy, but I actually prefer Four Roses Small Batch to Single Barrel.

I’m glad somebody realizes that lol. The bar I was at had the small batch as well but I didn’t get to try it, I definitely will when I go back to compare the two

I have some Taylor at home. Haven’t had Stagg. I don’t know much about bourbon but I taste more wood in the Taylor. I like McKenna 10 year lately.

(Stagg is phenomenal)

Read a thread like this and then ask yourself why local kids have no loyalty to Miami... It's wild how negative everyone is towards a DPOY from a feeder school committing to Miami. We are the most unhappy fanbase no matter what.
Local kids have no loyalty to Miami bc the mentors influencing them have no loyalty to Miami.. Not that they should. We under-develop, underachieve & under pay compared to the programs they get pimped to.

We are unhappy bc we are a middle tier program & that’s hard to accept with our decorated history.

I’ve only seen a handful that have out right denigrated him, one in particular. The others have been critical but hardly beaten him down. The internet is all about having tough skin. It’s savage at every corner. What he has faced on here is rated G compared the stuff teens his age are doing social media wise. It’s wild out there.

I feel better about Russell after watching this critique. What I don’t know is whether his proficiency will work at the college level. But that is what Zo and staff are paid to figure out.

I really feel like we are taking a Clemson-esque recruiting style. Go for a handful of stars and then focus on productive, character types to round out the roster. And hopefully some of those high character players surprise you and become really productive.
Good post. Following a Miami version of the Clemson model makes sense to me. I think fans are starving for positive results. After going 5-7, recruiting has been all we’ve got and so far on paper 24 is just okay. I think by the end of summer everyone will be feeling much better but people are yearning for the splash pick ups, of which we only have 1 so far.

No…just no.

I don’t care if he was defensive player of the year. He’s going to be going up against other players of the year from their states and you can see a total difference in athleticism. The size isn’t even the concern. We’re in a different era where stuff like that have taken a step back but the athleticism isn’t there for the type of football we’re trying to play.

Prove me wrong kid. I hope you do. I just don’t see it.
People would’ve said the same thing about Calijah Kancey a few years back. We didn’t recruit him then he goes on to be ACC DPOY and a 1st rounder at Pitt.

Yeah, we dragged the potential take in the original player thread with critique about highlights and raised questions about measurements that were all over the place and weren’t lining up with pro types we’ve been given. That was a 100% legitimate discussion. The few who show up to take cheap shots and skip out as usual are in a different category that can all go to purgatory for all I care.

But fair & objective discussion including appropriate manners of expressing criticism should not be bullied into silence because some people don’t like it.

All that said, we’ve known about this potential commitment for days. No reason for a few to act out in the commit thread. There’s nothing new that they already weren’t able to participate in or actually participated in prior to this.

Or what? Your take was trash. I'm moved on. Those were just examples to rip a hole through your soft *** take. We are 99.9% of the time on board with takes. This one as a whole we aren't. Not a thing wrong with it. Messages boards were made for this type of discussion Nancy.
I don’t agree with everything he’s saying either but the “shove it up your ***” thing is what he’s referencing because it was unnecessary given that the dialogue wasn’t on that level or shouldn’t have been.

Why are people ****ed about this? This is the type of guy we pass on and becomes an All American at wake forest or some ****.
Because they want to see some of the nationally agreed upon elite players commit so that they know it’ll all be ok and recruiting that level of player ain’t for the weak impatient.

He’s not 6’3.

He’s also not even 6’1.

It's not that I doubt you.

But I have no idea when you last saw the guy. We're talking about HS kids here, and they DO have growth spurts.

I know the coaches saw him before taking a commit. And while they might be projecting his abilities, I'm confident that they felt comfortable with his size after seeing him in person. Recently.

Well said. This is not a “more of the same” take. We usually take local dudes who have better measurables and worse production/accolades. We notoriously pass on the sawed off dudes who can ball.

That’s just not true. There was a contingent of posters that wanted Kancey. Most of us didn’t know who Russell was until a couple of weeks ago. A better example would be Lavonte David but Kancey is a false equivalence.

People wanted James Burgess and the QB who went to Louisville from Northwestern and tore it up at slot (???), Brandon Dorlus, Ryan Shazier… Tyquan Thornton, Elijah Moore…. Anthony Schwartz…
