I’m concerned about the 2026 class to be honest

I feel like that’s the class that on paper could be our best one yet (given the local talent and our long term recruiting efforts) but same time without Cam Ward I’m concerned about the product on the field not matching the recruiting efforts if we take a step back

But I can’t really talk about stuff like that when people get so emotional about teenager tweets from day to day

Not only that, their schedule was super easy this year. I don’t know what next year’s schedule is but I can bet it’s harder. While they lose Roberts and smith, their QB returns and he’s very good.

We argue in such extremes here it’s crazy. Mario signed back to back to back Top 10 classes for a team that was .500 for three years in a row until now during 20 years of mediocrity. I agree that relative to UGA and Bama his classes weren’t ranked highly enough. I also think his classes are factually high enough to make the playoffs each year. Overall, I think he’s done a **** good job at recruiting at the HS level.

Every position group on the team save DB is ahead of when he took over and some like OL, TE and QB are elite units. He’s not done yet this class and where he misses, I expect he’ll fill with portals as needed. Even where he hits I expect he’ll bring in more competition and experience from the portal.

As far as Pickett is concerned, hope he comes he’s a baller. But I also really like the DB group we have so far. His decision alone doesn’t make Mario a good or bad recruiter.

2024- 7 guys in the top 100 composite, 4 in the top 50

2023- 4 guys in the top 100 composite, 2 in the top 50

That’s not ELITE level recruiting at all

i thought those guys stunk though? lashlee has been insanely impressive as a first time HC at SMU. he won 11 last year in the AAC and then is headed to the conf title game as a 1 loss team in his first ACC season.

Miami guys who kinda underachieved here. Lashlee has an Offensive identity and has one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in his backyard. Also don’t be fooled SMU is loaded with Texas oil money alums and have an NIL that rivals with Miami if not greater! The Pony express can now Legally pay players. You’re living in yesteryear the game has change thanks to the Portal, NIL, and the new 12 team playoff.

It's fair to call recruiting now very good but not truly elite. Mauigoa, Bain, Scott were some big time gets. And we have plenty of low to mid tier 4 stars who immediately have roles: Fletcher, Bell, Popo, Patterson, Horton, Lofton. And we have also seen flashes from less heralded guys too: Pruitt, Day. And of course we have the 3 star anomaly that is OJ. Still tons of 4 star guys who haven't hit the field yet to gauge their grades yet to be as definitive as the board loves to jump to. But not too shabby overall but no doubt room for improvement in the top 50 category.

SMU plays in a 35k stadium that they can’t even sell out…it’s not a place high school recruits are wanting to play for…

They’ve got 29 commits…4 players in the top 500 in the composite rankings

Miami has 18 guys in the top 500 out of 23 commits on the other hand
