DJ Ivey impressing

Was roasted mercilessly on these forums while at UM. Glad to see the young man succeed.
Happy to see the young man succeed, but I find it hard to believe that his struggles here were solely because of coaching. What are the odds that every single DB coach that he came across was utterly incompetent? You saw him flash, but consistency never came. Consistency comes from putting in the work, and honestly, I don't think that he was that kind of guy.

I don't think his issues was SOLEY because of coaching. Yes, the coaching you get in the NFL is better than what you get at college, in every aspect... including the time that the coaches get to spend with you, ironing out your mistakes, but think about this. EVERY staff and EVERY DB coach we had, kept putting him out there on the filed. That means that they HAD 2 SEE "it" in him.. Sometimes coaches can see stuff in you, that you don't even see in you. It's obvious to me that some, if not most of his issues here revolved around a lack of focus. You just don't walk on an NFL field and become a "player" once you get there. You've ALWAYS been a "player", you didn't have the correct mindset, or some of the people around you couldn't get you to properly understand that. Some kids can figure it out earlier, some it takes them a while longer. But It takes a lot of hard work, and talent to get on one of those game fields, but it also takes focus. He's a grown man now, in a grown man league. Lack of focus at that level, will have your *** at the crib, in a hurry. The math don't work when you got real bills and **** to pay for. So happy that he's got it in check now, and making plays at that level. So happy for the young man. Keep it up DJ!

Reminds me of Sam Shields.

Were you at practices? It’s easy to say these guys don’t work hard from our couches but you don’t all of a sudden go to the nfl and work harder. You go to the nfl and your skills get refined. He obviously had some type of work habit to make it this far.

If he was putting in the work at the collegiate level, he wouldn’t have been making the same mistakes over and over again. Let’s be honest, dude was getting by on physical ability and a position group that was weak as **** so he kept getting trotted out there because the alternatives were worse.

I think that he finally found motivation at the pro level. It’s sad, but true that a lot of the players that come through this program do the bare minimum to get to the next level, and it shows on the field.

I think it was more coaching than anything else. I think he finally got coached up and it’s paying off. He could be this decades Sam Shields.

It's funny how a paycheck can get you motivated to do stuff! I bet you will see James Williams play linebacker because theyre gonna pay him and either he does it or he gets cut.

Happy for him. Seemed to be distracted at UM. Never looked completely focused and wss surprised(counting clouds on the fake punt) at times. Good for DJ! I I wish him a long and successful career in the league.

Go Canes!

JW will not be a linebacker at the next level. That's just ridiculous
Linebackers typically have to know how to tackle and understand angles in pursuit, 2 things that Williams has never done well. I think that he'll get drafted in the first 2 rounds based on his unique physical attributes and perceived upside, but I can't see him making it as a 'backer.

Guys, we are 13 games in. He’s played in 7. Has two tackles. I’m not sure where this presumed high level of success is we are talking about? I mean, congrats on a game ball. It’s kind of like the guys on here pointing to single plays, or single games where he was good. I get the kid has the absolute prototypical size to be a good CB. He has all the natural abilities you’d look for. But there’s definitely something missing. The film doesn’t lie, he was not unfairly disrespected by the fan base.

I hope the dude carves out a role, I do, but you guys are acting like he’s successful. 50% of games he even got on the field, and two tackles in those 7 games is being successful?
You guys realize how badly we would laugh at UF or FSU for a conversation like this?

Proud of him for making a living playing ball. I don’t see it lasting 7-10 years. I really don’t see a big second contract coming.

He's played 21 snaps on defense all year. 14 were last week. He's the Bengals #6 CB.

People are mistaking "he got in a game" with "he's having a successful season". Although you could say just making the team = a successful season.

I'm happy to see him in the game, and hope he can get a regular role, but he's still a ways away from being anything more than a ST/depth player.
