Diaz updates team after Wed. drills, speaks on Lingard

"If healthy he should play a limited amount to see where he is at.

Not hard."

can't wait to hear why.
Conventional wisdom says, when a player is returning from an injury and has missed extended playing time, they typically are not in game condition yet, so they are "eased" back into a full time work load. Whatever that may be with this staph.

Seeing as you don't know this, since your asking, what would you recommend? Should he carry the ball 20 to 25 times first game back?

This is good advice. Managing expectations is an important part of life and I don't blame anyone for becoming apathetic. I'm sure most Miami fans would be reasonably content with going 9-3 most years and enjoying those 12 Saturdays each year where college football is on tv all day. That would be good enough.

However, we are forced to endure some pretty intense anguish. We have to watch the best talent escape from South Florida each year. The happiest we're allowed to be is on the day when our head coach finally gets fired or retires. They knocked our stadium down. We get routinely hosed by refs, the NCAA, polls, the bowl system. We have won our division just once. And through it all we've managed to maintain our thug/criminal reputation which just makes it easier to laugh at us. And yet there's still Miami fans who remain completely unfazed. It's really a miracle of evolution.

lol man, what other choice do we have? i mean really, ask yourself that question. all those things you said were 100% accurate, but ok? i mean honestly i think as you get older, irrelevant (in the scheme of life), mundane sh*t like how good the miami hurricanes football team is just starts to affect your life less and less. losses and looking like sh*t used to ruin my weekend. not a ******* chance in **** that happens anymore.

my family's had season tickets since '82, i was a kid and have enjoyed football glory with this program the likes of which 95% of the country can't say. i have my memories and my hope for the future. but there is NO WAY i'm 'expecting' us to go out and crush teams just because we have a U on our helmet. those days are long, long gone.

said this a couple weeks ago. football season is supposed to be fun man. expecting us (without merit) to average 40 points a game and then being all ****ed off and upset when we don't is not how i want to watch the season.

like I've said, hope the team wins and enjoy college football saturdays. f*ck being miserable all the time because we aren't the 2001 canes anymore
Problem is that excitement to watch the game is fading. As bad as they've been over the years, tat didn't start to happen until late last year.

LOL that's awesome, because my train of thought was actually going in the other direction. he barely played last year, didn't beat out homer or deejay to start out the season, and hasn't played this year coming off a knee surgery and a concussion protocol.

so i was asking you why he "should play to see where he's at." so try again. why 'should' he play?

Lingard should have got at least a few carries against CMU as Diaz said was planned. He said the game was too close to put him in. IMO, he should’ve got the carries regardless of the score and that is a garbage excuse. If that’s going to be the case for Lingard, his only chance to get carries might be FIU. Unacceptable

It sounds like we've enjoyed a similar experience as fans from childhood. With each 7-5 finish it all becomes a little easier to accept. I do think that anger on behalf of fans can rock the boat. That's mostly what I'm trying to inspire here lately. We can get Blake James fired. But I'm sure they'd just promote the next ticket-taker and perpetuate the misery. It's all a ruse.

yep and 100% agree. we've all gotten angry and have influenced the firing (and early retirement) of the last 4 coaches. it's fairly clear at this point it goes beyond the staff on the sideline. this is absolutely an athletic director/board of trustees/university administration issue.

so we can call for the next coach, the next firing, whatever. i was confident and encouraged by the richt hire, because we finally showed we were willing to pay our coach the way a top tier coach should be paid to expect results. so what do we do? we hire cheap again, a coach who has never been a head coach to learn on the job. i like manny, but that shows exactly what the mentality is with this school. they simply and obviously don't care about football the way a top tier, winning, championship level athletic program does. that is just reality. and firing manny in a couple of years and hiring some guy who's never coached for 1.5 mil a year won't be the fix either.

Are you seriously asking why should he play?

You're a fvckin cluck.

A new level of cis stoopid.

most frustrating thing is constantly getting out-coached, out-hustled, and out played on a weekly basis. We play undisciplined, lacking fundamentals, penalties, etc.. it's hard to watch from a team with more talent than 90% of the opponents we play. I can handle getting whipped by Clemson, hard to watch this team struggle with the weakest of opponents because we are our own worst enemy. Our offensive philosophy is so inept with the talent we have. I actually like our defense. It's frustrating at time being a Canes fan, I agree. But I digress, I will always root for these kids.

go CANES!!

I think its funny all the clamoring for Lingard, but if he misses a blitz P/U and gets the QB hurt or turns the ball over for a TD everyone's attitude would change. Acting like he's being held back is a joke.

Attitude would be the same since without Lo on the field the team usually fails to execute anyways. Might as well see what you have. Maybe he is a gamer and gets up for games instead of practices. There are also ways to get the ball in his hands that wouldn't put him in a position where he has to pass block.

yes. He’s MUCH faster than any RB we currently have on the roster even with the brace. It’s very noticeable even in pregame warmups. He just has a different gear.

Same question. Have you ever seen a running back, playing an actual game, wearing a knee brace? Not a knee sleeve but an actual knee brace with metal on it? I mean maybe it’s happened, but I don’t recall ever seeing it.

LMAO yeah, i'm the dumb mook who is saying a kid who hasn't played in 2 years coming off a knee surgery SHOULD play. because he had 5 stars next to his name in high school.

why should he play again? ah, it must be all the evidence of him crushing it at the college level. dumbass

maybe it would've made more sense to say you'd really like to see him play. but he SHOULDN'T do sh*t, because some clown on a message board says so

After Wednesday’s drills, Miami head coach Manny Diaz stated that he’s been pleased by how his team has looked this week coming out of the bye and preparing for Virginia Tech.

“Yesterday was actually our best Tuesday of the year, was our fastest practice of the entire season - we can measure all the data through our Catapult system,” Diaz said. “The guys have had a great attitude all week.”

Sophomore RB Lorenzo Lingard finally got himself all the way back off knee surgery ahead of UM’s last game against Central Michigan, and although the Canes planned on giving him a few snaps, the fact that Miami failed to ever pull away vs. CMU nixed that idea.

With the Hokies on tap for this weekend in an ACC Coastal matchup, Diaz again stated his desire to get Lingard on the field, but gave a caveat as well.

“We’re hoping so, but part of it is him understanding what to do,” Diaz said of Lingard. “You can’t account for the missed reps. This is not just `run right, run left.’ It’s pass protection, how we get aligned. And when you miss scrimmages, unfortunately miss the Bethune game…

“He’s not doing anything wrong. He’s just developing as a player. Sometimes you have to separate what we feel about a player in recruiting as opposed to their natural development when they get on this campus. Lo is a guy we think has a great future, he knows he’s getting better and better, more comfortable with his knee and a guy that we’ll get more of a role for him.”

Diaz also addressed the outside chatter of a potential Lingard transfer, saying he tells all of his players to “live in the now” and do their best to elevate themselves instead of worrying about what might happen down the line.

“We talk to our players about that all the time, because everybody knows what’s best not just for Lo, but for all of our guys,” Diaz said. “We talk about being in the now, which is what you can control, which is right now, right here. There’s nowhere you can go. You can’t transfer in September or October, there’s nowhere to go. You have to be here right now. So be where you are. We tell all the guys `Be the best you. There’s something you can do to improve who you are, whatever role you have on the field. So focus on what is real, what is actually in your control’.”

True freshman LT Zion Nelson has struggled this season, but Diaz still plans on leaving him out there to work out his issues and continue his development by gaining experience.

“He’s got to play,” Diaz said. “You’re talking about a true freshman playing left tackle. Give me a history of that ... you develop those guys, get them in the game. Every rep matters. You get to the game with what you’ve got, try to get better and better and better. The thing I love about Zion, Zion competes, man. He doesn’t flinch, doesn’t blink, gets back in there.”

Legendary defensive coordinator Bud Foster is in his final season at VT before retirement, and he has always presented a difficult defense for his opponents to solve.

“You’re talking about a defense that historically with Bud Foster is going to make everything difficult for you, will surround your running game with numbers,” Diaz said. “They’re going to challenge you on all the throws and they’re going to force you to push the ball into throws that take longer to develop. That’s why their sack numbers are very good.”

After playing both regular starter Ryan Willis and backup Hendon Hooker in last week’s loss to Duke, the Hokies have publicly declined to name a starting QB ahead of their game against the Canes. With Hooker being more of a runner than Willis, Diaz said that’s something UM is preparing for when they face-off vs. the VT offense, among other things.

“Offensively, they’ve had struggles getting their running game going but are still very dynamic - two-back runs, one-back runs, a lot of motion to get your eyes in the wrong post. And QB run game, which has not been a major part of the offense we’ve seen so far, so we have to make sure we’re prepared for that.”

UM is tied for last in the FBS in terms of converting third downs, with only a 23.3% success rate. Diaz is well-aware of the issue, and the team has dedicated large portions of their practices to getting third downs right.

“As we get better, our third down offense will continue to grow,” Diaz said. “And it’s something we practice all the time, was a major point of emphasis today. We probably spent over 20 minutes or so on third down today in practice, probably 25. It’s getting worked on.”

Diaz also followed up on something his OC Dan Enos said on Monday, saying that he is more confident in the backups on the OL at this point in the season and expects to rotate more come this weekend. Enos previously said John Campbell, Kai-Leon Herbert, and Ousman Traore were working in from the second unit OL.

Then put on his headset back on

and went back to preparing for VT

Funny thing is our opponents know their plays and our plays. But our coaches think our **** is so complex our players can’t get it.

This post is why you shouldn't suck any big black **** that pokes through a hole in a stall at a truck stop bathroom.

Your brain gets infected with syphilis and start talking nonsense. Only you think the guy shouldn't play. CIS genius.

LOL well see isn't that funny? i never said he shouldn't play. i'm asking you what your reason is that he SHOULD play? what i shouldn't do, is expect some internet tough guy douchebag to be able to read clearly without melting down because someone questions him.

i'll ask for a 3rd time to see if your tiny brain clogged with bong resin can comprehend. why SHOULD lingard play, according to you? other than the video clips of him taking handoffs that obviously gave you a boner. i'll wait.
