Maybe, but what if your entire family has never left your hometown and this is their chance to receive the red carpet treatment?
Whenever you are taking your entire family on an official visit somewhere, that school has a shot.
Sure there are many factors to consider. It's not binary. With that said, it's not like the school can pay for the whole family's travel (unless it's gas comp for driving). The school can only pay for the recruit's flight. There are a lot of NCAA imposed limitations on giving the family "red carpet treatment". Sure, there are ways around rules, but Miami is hardly at the forefront of that.
No matter how you want to try to dismiss it, family coming on a trip is a good thing and is better than the alternative
The NCAA changed the rule. The kid can bring 2 family members with him.
NCAA passes rule allowing institutions to pay for two guardians to accompany recruits on official visits
Proposal 2015-52 will allow institutions to pay the actual round-trip costs for a prospective student-athlete's parents or legal guardians to accompany the prospect on his official visit and will be implemented August 1, 2016.
The new rule specifies the funds will be available for transportation and meals for the parents or guardians.
Thanks for the update. Do we know if family went on his other visits?
According to the article posted in this thread, the kid has been taking visits for his family, and that he doesn't really need to see the schools and the campus and surrounding area.
He's taken family on every visit.
