Denzel

FWIW JUCO LB Devonta Derricott (who Miami just extend an offer to) said this about Miami, "Miami needs somebody to come in a fill in for a junior linebacker because one of those linebackers is about to go to the league," Derricott said, "I was pretty excited about that." Granted it could be our senior LBs but just wanted to share.

What makes you think he's a 1st rounder?

Well he has 1st round talent i think that's pretty obvious..... he's going to be the hands down strongest LB at the NFL combine, whether it's this year or the next, and he's going to be one of the fastest.

I just saw your post that asked if he's ever had a 100 tackle season yet? No

His true freshman year he finished 2nd on the team behind Spence, w/ 69 tackles.

his sophomore year an ankle injury sidelined him for 3 games, but wasnt fully healthy until the season was over, but he still finished 2nd on the team in tackles w/ 64.

Denzel Perryman is on pace for a 100 tackle season this year... he already has 52.

He's maybe 6'0" though. He's averaging a little over 7 tackles a game. That's not enough production to over-look his physical stature IMO.

For a LB that short to be drafted in the 1st round he's gotta be head and shoulders above every other LB in the nation. (and that's not the case IMO)

A guy that short is a severe mis-match against TE's and a liability in zone coverage cause his body doesn't take up enough space. I'm not saying he won't get drafted but I don't see anything about him that says 1st round.

What is the "yeah but..." that can be used with Perryman if somebody says he's too short? "Yeah but he hits people really hard." That doesn't cut it. You can't say "yeah but he's a tackle machine" cause he's NOT. "Yeah but he's strong." Well so are alot of LB's. "Yeah but he's fast." He's not fast enough to ignore his height. (he'll probably run mid to high 4.6)

Look at the LBs picked in the past 6 first rounds:

Jarvis Jones
Alec Ogltree
Luke Kuechly
Von Miller
Rolando McClain
Sean Witherspoon
Aaron Curry
Orakpo
Brian Cushing
Larry English
Clay Matthews
Keith Rivers
Jerrod Mayo

First off, all of them measure over 6-2. Second of all, the ones mentioned, 5 are pass rushing guys, and the other 8 were either tackling machines in college (130+ tackles) or were big dominant bodies (McClain). Denzel is none of those. That said, yes, I think he's good enough to be a starter in the pros for 10 years but he won't be drafted in the first round. Trends in the draft tell us that.

Didn't jump off the screen last night as even a top 100 pick should.

And to be specific if Denzel's first step is back he's an average college LB; going forward he's a pretty **** good. Unfortunately for him in today's NFL dropping and recognizing is as important, if not more, than run-stuffing.

He may go pro and it may be validated since his measurables will not change but it's not because he's dominating the completion and ready to step up at the next level.

He'll go pro where he doesn't have to worry about graduation rates and will actually get strength and conditioning coaching from someone who is actually competent......and then he'll be another player that makes more impact in the NFL than in college. Same nonsense plagues this team.

Denzel Perryman had 15 tackles (10 solo) and 1.5 sacks tonight

he was the only player making plays on the field, D'onofrio is more responsible for putting him in terrible positions the entire game when he did whiff on some tackles.

Not sold. IMO he's a late 3rd rounder, at best.
I agree. At best 3rd but more likely 4th to 5th. Barrow, Armstead , Smith, Brophy, Moss and Ted Hendricks were not 1st rounders for Gods sake. DP ain't sniffing 1st round period

you are crazy if you think he's going to get drafted that late

no you're not crazy your just clueless
I may be wrong but clueless is a bit much. I would take Armstead all day long over DP and he was eighth round man. Stats are often bs. I think 1st rounders are very easy to see. I don't see it in DP.

Zone, I'm still waiting for you to show me the post where I said Denzel wasn't very good.

And if you think he's going in the 1st round you are insane.

This is what you said then you begin to say one retarded thing after the other which made it obvious that you dont have a clue about what's going on in a football game.

He's been a disappointment this year outside of the Florida game.

"He's been a disappointment this year outside of the Florida game" in your mind translates to "Denzel isn't very good"

Glad to see your reading comprehension skills are up to par.

you were dissing him in the entire thread.

the fact that you cant see when someone is even having a good game makes it even more obvious that you really dont know what you are talking about on this site.

Dude...you said Morris was better than Bridgewater, Gus Edwards is better than Alex Collins and that we would beat Stanford.

I rest my case.
