Defensive Scheme vs Talent

The people shouting yards first aren't necessarily wrong and don't necessarily have an agenda. We're entitled to feel troubled when we see our defense getting gashed repeatedly against the Bethune's, UVA's, BC's, Maryland's, and Duke's of the cfb world. We don't have to like it.

They have agendas, that is BS. They are also wrong to start their argument with YARDS FIRST. I am not saying don't bring up the YARDS, I am saying start with the points.

Explain one thing, why do they quote this yards stat instead of the more important one points? The points stats sucks too. Why don't they at least bring up the points?

Again no one is not saying be troubled by the yards or to like it, I am asking a different question which has yet to be answered except..."Duh I have an agenda and I hate Coach D."

I think any agendas are derived from Dorito pretty much saying that he's cool with giving up yards and that points is what matters most. He's not wrong, but it's not exactly refreshing to hear. I think we'd all rather hear him say that the goal is to be #1 in every defensive category. Whatever works. I think we're all willing to give this defense another couple years based on their track record at Temple. But any hope for future success certainly isn't based on anything they've accomplished here.

I would think it's safe to assume that if your defense makes it tougher on their opponents scoring then the yards will be cut down with it. Really doesn't take rocket science to figure that out. It's funny that our know it all fans take a few words spoken and devise these elaborate theories. Those theories always help tear the man down but you don't have an agenda? What do you call Coach D again, Dorito? Yeah no agenda there. Just keeping it real right Rok?

I agree that it's bs for any Def. Coord. to openly say that yards allowed isnt important. Every defense in the NFL and in CFB, are judged by how many yards they allow. He should've said that yards allowed isnt AS important (or some version of that) b/c you are a defensive coordinator.

I also think Coach D's comments on "yards allowed" shouldnt be taken so literally. If you look at the defense when UM had more talent on that side, his 1st year, the defense was a top 50 unit. When those pieces left early and the rest graduated, the unit that was on the field last year, was a practice squad.

Coach D just doesnt think that stat is the most important or even 2nd most important thing to worry about when improving a defense. Maybe he has the mindset that working on the other important defensive stats like points allowed and red zone defense, will eventually trickle down to improving yards allowed.

I disagree, I think the "agendas" started because someone who was beloved by few was fired and he was a DC at Miami. I think people with legitimate gripes about the defense, and people are right to have these, should voice their opinions.

There's no conspiracy here, Picksix. Goldens and Dorito have always employed the bend-but-don't-break philosophy. Dorito has said multiple times that he really doesn't care about yards. It doesn't make him a bad person, but it hasn't really worked here through 24 games. I know, I know. No talent, a lot of youth and inexperience, and our guys didn't lift weights until Goldens arrived.

It's hard to follow these posts. We are going to have to agree to disagree on people having agendas.

I don't know about all of that. Nobody in their right mind could defend Shannon for anything other than the defense he ran. You're talking about Nites and like one other person on this planet. The people with legitimate gripes about the current defense have them because the current defense sucks.

Temple fans warned us about D before he got here. They said his bend but don't break style would frustrate the **** out of us. Miami fans responded that was just the way he had to play because he was at Temple. Well judging from the first two years of this defense and from D's own mouth, yards really don't matter, only the score does.

And to an extent that's true, but it's frustrating as **** watching teams march up and down the field on us and then we get in the redzone and all of a suddenly the style of play of our defense changes once our players start pulling the chain of the train horn.

You sound like you have an agenda, Ridler.

What Temple fans?

Temple has fans?

Bottom line is this year will show us a lot. I think everyone is FRUSTRATED with the performance of this team and the amount of years we spend in a coma. I feel you.

There's nothing left to do but wait.

Golden knew the defense was gonna suck last year, which is why we decided to play at a break-neck pace.

Let's see what the defense looks like when we don't have converted RBs and true freshmen playing CB, or zero-star DTs with no offers locking up critical D-line positions.

Agree to disagree.

You're living in a fantasy world if you don't think that 99% of Canes fans who are unhappy with the current defense are unhappy with it because it has stunk for 2 seasons.

Yes. Now that the talent is in place, let's see what happens. I think it's safe to assume that we'll see a marked improvement. I still don't know what Randy Shannon has to do with anything. Able, could you help explain that to me?

It's taken time to clean up thanks comma Randy's mess.

When Golden got here, he said he was shocked that he was seeing a lot of the problems he had at Temple.

99% of fans? Really? You think 99% of the people upset about the defense don't have an agenda. Did you see that total defense thread? There is a gaggle of porsters in there with agendas. But again, agree to disagree.

FYI...Here is a post you made in this thread:

If we match our 2011 scoring D we'll be in business

I assume you meant in business in a good way?

I'm aware of the mess he inherited. I just don't agree with the notion that the people who don't like the current defense have some sort of Randy-loving agenda.
