Defense

To be frank, teams have figured Guidry out. But his adjustments at half time are elite. We need to have a game where we start strong and finish strong. Hopefully that can happen vs Louisville.

The gameplan on defense heading in to games is absolutely atrocious. We do better in the 2nd half but giving up that many points to freaking Cal is an absolute joke. Guidry just doesn’t have them prepared. Also did I see that Richard is starting over OJ? wtf is that? The secondary is the biggest weakness(duh) but the other units DL and LB haven’t been anything special. Still too many missed tackles and blown assignments. Nobody seems to know how to set a **** edge or stop over-pursuing every **** play. Guidry **** sure isn’t earning his paycheck this year. **** was all sweet against the likes of Ball State and FAMU. Since ACC play started, oh my lawd this defense sucks
 
Not on Guidry or the D-Line. We knew going into the season that DB’s would be a weak spot and the secondary is where we get beat up (and to some extent LB’s have also missed tackles). If Kinchens stayed we’d have a lot more balance.

Hope we see some of the young guys in the secondary make some leaps during the season.
 
Horrible first half, but once again like already mentioned great adjustments and play in the 2nd half. The announcers stated we outscored them 29-3 to end the game. Talk about stepping up when most needed!

Is this team really that much less talented on D than the Gerald Willis Sheldrick Redwine team?

We are getting cooked in the first halfs by average offenses and a lot of these explosives the play is starting behind the LOS, mickey mouse ****, we aren't forcing QBs to throw darts on us to score.

Nah, Guidry really needs to adjust to his talent. This team lacks speed. So you can't have the lbs at the los sim blitzing and hoping they back out in coverage. I've been *****ing about this since UF.

Our dbs are not fast enough to cover the space the lbs need to be. Move the lbs 5-7 yards off the lost and there is a lot less **** to stress over. Fake pressure ain't it.
 
not going to dispute alot of whats being said about our D and Guidry however, I will say Cal had a bye and used it well imo. They had a great plan and executed it while taking advantage of our aggressiveness. I hope on our bye week both sides of the ball do what they can do to break some tendencies. With that said, they made the stops when they had too. GO CANES

a lot of the secondary issues are personnel, plain and simple, but one thing i feel is on the coaching is how susceptible we are to misdirection and screens. i'm starting to lose count of the times guidry's sent pressure on 3rd and forever only to be gashed by a screen, which feels like pretty basic stuff to me.

The qb was 11/17 300 yards. They had 6 rushing yards. And had 35 pts lol.

Some of it is guidry has to get them ready and scheme it, sure. But our defense gets sloppy and doesn't play assignment football. In the 4th qtr, Jaden Harris didn't even know where to line up. Was in the box and had to be told to play middle field.

Yeah I was calling for him to be benched all night. He’s a corner, not a safety. Marquis played well in relief of him last week, why not put him back in the game. Overall safety play was bad. Kiko was bad at tackling most of the game also.

He shut them out for like 20 straight minutes at the end of the game.

Not sure where that effort was for the first 40 minutes, but he did the same thing against VT last week too.

Two improbable comeback wins because the D decided to ball the **** out for (basically) half the game after ****ting themselves in the first half. Really weird stuff.

I wish we had a multi-year starter NFL S back there right now...

He's looked the same way he has since he's been here. Untrustworthy defender in the horizontal game, who is also a general liability in pass coverage. Only thing about the last couple games, is he's been missing tackles that should be made.
 
Not all on Guidry. Our secondary is just ***. And there's really not much that can be done about it. Tweaking the scheme might help, but they're just going to blow assignments no matter what the scheme is...
