Defense

This team is below average at nose tackle and Safety. Those two things are really hurting us.

I did notice an adjustment in the game where we started playing 3 LB instead of two. Seemed to help.

Our Team & Especially our D is physically and mentally exhausted.

This amazing start to the season has required everything and more from the D & Ol particularly.

As much as we all want a scapegoat and a definite focus for our frustrations to land on.

That first part matters. This bye week comes as a God send.

Although these issues do not magically disappear as far as I know.

But then again, fúck do I know.
 
All I know it Is on Guidry if he keeps trotting Jaden Harris out there. He was abysmal. Look at all the big plays he keeps giving up, on that long screen pass in the 3rd that was on him too…

Hard to get pressure on the QB when they are running mostly screens and quick game. When he did drop back and scan the field, we got pressure in those moments.

The biggest issue for us is we don’t have great eye discipline, so we’re getting killed on misdirection plays with eye candy. Also, guys are taking bad angles and missing tackles. All of that is a recipe for disaster.

I have faith in Guidry to figure it out. But some of these issues are personnel related and it’s going to eventually catch up to us.

Sadly, he may figure out we are generally weak in the back. 19 couldn’t catch a tight end. 0 may help get D organized but he can’t cover. Left his man on the 4th and 1 long td dump pass. #7 is well #7
 
Nobody is perfect & that includes coaching.... but there's only so much they can do... I thought last week was worse for Guidry... if we don't make boneheaded plays & give up like 50yrd plays left and right we weren't bad. I'm pretty sure the only drive we didn't give up a 25+ yard play we held them to a field goal.

He said a couple weeks ago in the first half of games, teams never do what he sees on film. They always throw something new at the defense. Then the second half they tend to go back to their base offense, which is what he studied on film. When it comes to the defense doing better in the second half, think it's less about Guidry doing some amazing halftime adjustments, and more that the other team starts doing things that Guidry has seen on film, so has a better idea of how to defend it. I don't think Guidry is very good at making adjustments on the fly. Hopefully I'm wrong about Guidry as Brohm is going to have some tricks up his sleeve in a couple of weeks.

We talked about this last week. I think you were the one that listed the 3 biggest play of the season in terms of yards given. All 3 plays involved Jaden.

You can now add at least 2 more 40 yard plus plays he was involved in tonight. He is really struggling and will probably personally cost us at least 1 or 2 wins.

3rd and 18. This is supposed to be stopped for a 7 yard gain but nope, 50 yard plus play because of him


It’s getting egregious at this point

Also the play where Jaden jumped the bubble screen when Porter already had it covered gave up the long TD to the TE.

It looked like he tried to pass the route off to Hill at the last second but I can't imagine him and Porter were both supposed to be covering the same man in the flat.

Maybe it was cover 3 but still the communication was terrible and you ended up with 2 defenders guarding one offensive player that wasn't even a threat.

This play. Was Harris supposed to play it that aggressively?
 
Guidry has been mid this year and that’s putting it nicely. We get ROASTED in man 1 yet we ran it **** near every snap it felt like since UF until the second half v cal we played primarily zone.
Yet every 3rd down they just throw a little dump off or screen for a chunk because he can’t help himself but to blitz. It’s predictable like manny was here and no player has any discipline at all.
We look very poorly coached and have basically since week 1. We will lose game(s) because of our **** defense

Players aren’t making the plays.
Blown assignments and missed tackles these past few games have killed us

Cal had 3 possessions in which they had an actual drive. (2 touchdowns and a field goal)

Players need to clean it up on their end.

Look at the first half to second half. Of course Guidy made adjustments at the half, but players also starting doing their jobs
 
Guidry says his defense is based on his safeties, and he doesn’t have Kitchens back there this year. Cal designed plays to isolate and take advantage of the safeties and it consistently worked. Jaden Harris is getting roasted and Cal purposely went at Powell in coverage.

Must start giving Zaquan Patterson and some of the younger safeties some burn. Also, I wonder why the LBs aren’t more involved in the screen game. Is it scheme or are they missing assignments. In most defenses, the LBs are critical.

Kiko needs to step up at LB… he’s regressed from last year.. missing tackles and not getting the qb down on sacks

Missing assignments all over those edge and misdirection plays. Our players either can't react and react or weren't prepared for them. Compound that with the worst angles I've seen our backfield take all year and its a recipe for disaster. Either way we got big issues. I said all second quarter: get to the second half with a summountable deficit and Guidry will figure it out. Defense played lights out second half, but I wish we could play a full 4 quarters.
