defense depth chart post scrimmage

So what ups with Blue, Kirby and Robert Lockhart? No where on the depth chart whats up with that?

These freshmen are about the same size or bigger than the older guys based on position, so durability won't be the issue. I am nor concerned about the Frosh mistakes they might make that will cost if games. If the coaches can keep theirs tasks simple, they may be able to mitigate those mustakes. Also a lot of older guys are injured and once they return should sure up the depth chart.

Golden has a great track record when it comes to DTs so im not too worried about Ivery being too young

If the boss thinks hes ready, then ima roll with him

You all do know that the depth chart is fluid and won't be the same as the season opener, we still have another scrimmage next week, take a deep breath and relax

- IMO, Al Golden is trying to light a fire in Curtis Porter.

- Dequan Ivery must really be putting in work... biggest steal of the class, outside from Howard.

- That is a messed up looking LB unit.... Gaines isn't a middle linebacker. Terry and Ambrister need to get removed ASAP.

- I like McGee being ahead of Howard.....

- I think Kacy Rodgers II can really make a difference for us this year.

I know this won't be the team that's going to see the field against BC..... I'm glad we still have two more scrimmages to get this team ironed out.

We need Ivery, Porter, and Smith to save us and have big years. If we can get great play out of them I think it will do a lot to mask some of our weaknesses

I have a hard time believing McGee stays in front of Howard all season. There is a huge difference between straight line speed and the ability to accelerate and close on the ball in the air.....McGee struggles with the latter and that's not something you can teach.

Darius Smith and Porter perplex me. On one hand it is encouraging to see Smith playing well enough to be ahead of Porter, but it is also concerning that a guy with two more years of experience is getting beaten out by Smith. Very interested to see how this ends up turning out.

Does anyone have any information regarding Blue, Kirby, and Eddie Johnson as to why they are not listed? Are they hurt and if so when can we expect them back?

OLB
34 TERRY ARMBRISTER 6-3 222 SO.
58 Gabe Terry 6-3 215 Fr.

remember...ARMBRISTER is garbage.....

I know this has no bearing on our real game day depth chart...but you see who is putting in the work and who is clearly buying into Coach D and Coach Gs work ethic etc....look for Gaines to take this spot....

We all had to realize there were going to be a lot of freshman in the 2 deep, the upper classmen didn't play very well last year and these kids were brought in with the idea they were going to play meaningful snaps this season. This is the year to get them on the field training and get ready to roll in 2013.

I agree with Ethnic that 8 wins is not a negative, it's an improvement and a step in the right direction.

And if T. McCord is truly already 236 lbs he may contribute a lot more this year than I originally thought.

I really hate college team comparisons. But Boise was undersized and well coached and handled VT better than we did in 2010...Boises lil D line and LBs held VT to 128 yards rushing 314 total yards.....
thy ran for 281 and 380 total at our place......dont look at size as much with this staff. Chick & Denzel both played underweight for D-1 starters yet played very very well.....

Wow... We're not gonna be winning too many games with that defense... I know everything's not set and all, but the fact is even if you shuffle these guys around, this is nowhere near what a Miami defense should look like. I like the fact that there's a couple LBs missing on there, otherwise it would've been downright awful, but the more I think about it, the more I think we're in for another tough year.

There's something I like though, and it's the near future. This defense has the potential to be something really special a couple years down the road. Ultimately, I think the fact that they will have to step in right away and compete will make this class better, and we will have to endure some growing pains and it might be hard to watch at times (think Kacy Rodgers vs FSU kast year), but it will make us stronger and hungrier for the future (think of all the good things we've heard on the Rodgers front this year). That DT spot has me optimistic for the next few years, lots of youth, talent and depth. Just not this year. Ditto with the CB spot with the likes of Howard, Crawford, Dortch, Hope, Finnie, etc. and the 'backers with youngsters like Perryman, Kirby, Johnson, Blue, Terry... Deep, solid rotations of talented ballers.

The future is bright, but I feel like some of us are getting carried away predicting 8 and 9 wins this very season... Don't get me wrong, I'd love to win 9, heck, I'd love to win them all, and it's not that farfetched a thought to believe we could end up 9-3, but we would really need lots of stars to align for it to happen THIS year. I see 7 wins as the most probable result this season. Let's enjoy the process, and if everything pans out, we might very well be looking at a National Championship Playoff team in 2014.

Nice post +1

Just announced that Ivery listed as a starter at DT was an error. He is third and Pierre is first.

Eddie Johnson and Gionni Paul were injured, and thus missing from the two deep. Both are participating in practice today.

Kelvin Cain has not been practicing for a week, which is why he wasn't listed on the depth chart.

Ivery is 3rd on the depth chart behind Pierre/Robinson & Grimble.

Some of you people need to relax.
