DC Candidates

We are at a point where NIL is flowing from every direction, so what is the tie breaker? Due to evals, players are getting what they are worth. So if another team offers the same amount as Miami, does a player go to the other school or to the coach he has a good relationship with?
Presumably has a rep, so will try brokering the best deal. All things equal, then position coach and relationships are a major factor, but also track record developing his position, potential playing time, conference, location, fan support/stadium and atmosphere/college town or major city.

Nansen is a smart dude and very versatile scheme wise. A lot of stuff he likes to do coverage wise Texas has implemented this year. He is more of a cover 3 guy that uses the 4-2-5 mostly. But he runs things according to what the offense does.

He brought the dollar Tampa 2 3rd down package to Texas where he moved the cb barron to LB. We haven’t had creative stuff like that. He will run some 4-3, 3-4, 5-1. It all depends on the offense
Finally some insight! 🤣

You mean a DC that scouts the opponent and uses multiple schemes and coverages to put his players in advantageous positions…..

Texas co-DC I like on his own merits. I wonder if he'd be able to bring the CB coach at UA who Fisch brought to UW with him? Upside is he's a good corner coach, him being at UW a big reason T. Davis transferred there, and since we all should be feeling exuberant right now what's stopping Davis from transferring here in the Spring portal (or this one if he hasn't enrolled there yet)?

Do we all think Beck signed without knowing who the DC will be????......**** no...it will be announced shortly and the '25 group will be pulled together with a few additions at key spots......
Things are moving stealth.....but moving the way Mario wants and at his pace.........and style......stealth all the way.

Great, let’s get a DC with a personality who can recruit, but first box to check is a sharp guy who can scheme and coach an elite defense. No reason can’t surround DC with recruiters.
Are kids going to Hartline for less money? If so, it’s probably because he and OSU are the best at putting receivers in the league.
Hartline also isn't the OC. Chip Kelly doesn't do **** recruiting other than identifying talent and reading his resume. He has his position coaches handle the relationships. Would love a set up like that on defense with an elite schemer.

If I had to say It’s the one out of left field , lacking a lot of play calling experience but plenty of football experience. They’re also a great recruiter. So it would make sense aligning with Mario. I guess we’ll see.
Is there concern with potential playcalling? Meaning, does this coach lack play-calling experience bc he didn't want that type of role in the past? Or have other coaches not seen him as a DC level candidate, thus not having playcalling experience but lots of football experience (which i HOPE means coaching and not just playing)?

how "out of left field" would I be if I was the candidate?

sure it's been said already but don't have time to go back through

I'm sure securing beck drastically increases the DC options

no way now someone doesn't see our OL, RB, QB, WR rooms and dawson calling plays and thinks it isn't an excellent situation

One thing I’ve learned with Mario and coordinator hires , there’s always a candidate that comes out of nowhere. I’ve only known one of the coordinator hires in advance. The rest snuck up 24 hours out or sooner , that’s before they were announced. Guidry was out of left field.

I’ve just mentioned a couple hints at names I’ve heard. If it’s one of them it’ll be obvious if not Mario pulled a Mario.

There are 2 things about Nansen CIS should love.

1) He known for his ability to recruit Polynesians

2) He known as an excellent developer of LBs. UTexas says he works very closely with their Uber-talented LB Anthony Hill and, while he was at Arizona, Nansen was credited with developing Jacob Manu (a freshmen all American and all-pac 12 LB).

Id love to see what Nansen could do with the young, but talented, LB room we have.

Hmm idk Partridge or Ansley...

Too bad Guidry didn't stay in left field
