DC Candidates

An assistant qb coach? Lol ok ...he's a senior analyst and he's being forced to retain every other coach. Thats really being allowed to hire your own staff đź‘Ś

And this is why you are a dishonest poster.

I never...NEVER...said he was "allowed to hire his own staff". He was allowed to bring a position coach.

Unlike what you and some other bull****ting porsters said, these coordinator jobs, and the ability to bring some of your own staff, have never been all-or nothing.

Yes, we have dopey posters who hold out the false myth of "Mario should just let the new DC hire the whole defensive staff". That is not going to happen.

At the same time, we have dishonest posters such as yourself who act like coordinators are never allowed to hire staffers ever. Which is also untrue.

It's a negotiation. Banks wanted to bring someone that Mario didn't want, and Mario wanted to keep someone that Banks didn't want. While it's sad that the negotiation fell apart over two individual staff hires/retention, it is wrong to sit here and criticize a DC candidate for wanting to bring one (or even two) of his staff along with him. That kind of stuff is very common.

It happens...just have to move on to next...

Minnesota guy gave up 31 to iowa and 27 to Michigan man idk..49 to 4-8 Purdue last year
First year was 2024 so last year's Iowa debacle wasn't him.

Held Michigan to 250 yards of offense and 4 yards per play. Under 4 yards per carry. I'd guess Special Teams or the offense put Michigan in some good field position or something. No idea about the Iowa game.

Agreed.

I just want some realism here.

It is not a crazy ask to want to bring one or two of your staff along with you.

And it is not a crazy ask to NOT want to inherit existing Co-coordinators.

Somehow, Mario needs to compromise and FINISH a negotiation so that we can get to that final point where he "officially" makes the offer.

Nobody is solely at fault here, regardless of the CIS porsters who like to turn every issue into a binary black-white/right-wrong situation.

Ngl this year Michigan getting 250 is alot lol

Just looking at this year’s schedule, doesn’t look that impressive imo. I see its his 1st year in p4 so we’ll see i guess, kinda looks similar to us last year

Minnesota lacks talent. Their best player was a true freshman. Looks like Iowa just gashed them in the ground.

Concerning and ya the schedule sucked. I like Hetherman but I’d also like some more experience. I think he’d do fine though

If we could land Heatherman and he could somehow convince Koi Perich to come with...

Really the most reasonable thing is to not take a coordinator job while having to use the same staff.

If you go down the right-wrong path, I’m probably going to side with the guy that doesn’t want to inherit a staff. It’s hard to ask someone to be responsible for a job if you never let them be responsible for the job.

Hetherman has been successful at every stop thus far. He has improved defenses.

Minnesota was 9th in total defense averaged 4.8 YPP allowed in 2024 under Hetherman.
Minnesota was 70th in total defense averaged 5.9 YPP allowed in 2023 year before Hetherman.

He would be a really solid hire.

Anyone who saw his Minnesota defense, were they fundamentally sound, did they play with discipline? I only saw them against VTech and that offense the Hokies trotted out was awful, so hard to tell.

He coached with Schiano for a couple of years, which leads me to believe he knows fundamentally sound, disciplined defense

We've recruited a ton of athletic defensive players with good measurables (pause) the last few years. I don't think we need some exotic complicated scheme. Just coach the talent up and put them in the correct position, and we should be much better on defense. Our guys played really slow this year, because they had no clue what they were doing IMO. Play smart disciplined defense and they can play fast.

For those who have you on ignore - and it’s not as many as @Empirical Cane but still 🤣 , here’s a critical piece of information from your post…

I guess Dabo told him he couldn't hire his own coordinators
I've never been to Clemson... but those South Bend winters can be rough. AG seems like the kind of guy that would be into the Irish and their history and all that. I doubt he leaves for anything but a HC job.

My guess is D Nic was the person who Banks wanted to replace.
