Dawson Scheme notes

Please stop trying to make this point.
Dude, you're hysterical! Remind me of how I keep making this point...?

Keep doing you, brother!!! You march to your own drummer, but you got the beat down.

I feel like I've seen you post about WR before. I'm not gonna research it because even if this is the first time, that's still too many. WR is a top 3 position and stacking talent is the only option.

I think you misunderstood me. Of course, you want to stack WR talent, I'm just saying that until we get that WR1 on the roster (or develop someone into that) his O may help mitigate that current issue.

Don't necessarily disagree with that sentiment but that's not how you worded OP. We've sucked for nearly 20 years I'd rather take the easy road but yes it can be done in different ways.

I saw more RPO at Southern Miss than at Houston but I'm wondering if that aspect comes back, given TVDs skillset.

I'll add more as I see more, but please feel free to pile on.

Not sure if it was out of an RPO...But they did run poor Clayton Tune to death this year at Houston (some of this may have been Holgerson)

Tune is more mobile than TVD, but is not exactly Jalen Hurts.

I love when Dawson schemes QB runs with counter motion and a lead blocker. Keeps the QB out of harms way until 5-6 yards downfield at least.

Give to the jet^

From the few games ive seen now, Dawson LOVES this play.

Probably have to go HB counter with TVD. I do not want to see him try and run a counter lol

So far this is the only way i've seen Dawson run GT.

GT Counter (read?) with jet motion? Love this

No idea how much skill goes into this, but he seems good on 4th down calls. Noticed them in this clip and the SMU game this year I think Houston had 2 long TDs on 4th and 10s.

Not gonna lie, the play calling and execution looks like trash, just doesn’t look crisp… and im trying to be optimistic with this hire. At least his overall scheme is less [bonkers] than Gattis so im sure we’ll see improvement. But I’m nowhere near as optimistic about this hire as I am with Guidry

@IndayArtHauz where did you see / hear this? Was this on a podcast?
It was in the thread "Shannon Dawson is the New OC/QB Coach". In response to this question (page 29 post 580) ...

Did Dana take over playcalling at any point last season?
he responded (page 31, post 612)
NO. No idea where that comes from. Dana did have a meeting with him and the QB about what Dana wants but again we were scoring 30 a game before that meeting. Dana’s tempo didn’t match Dawson’s

The zone running execution looks like a mess to be honest. Would be interested in seeing run success stats the last couple years.
