PentagonCane: You bring up a good point about Pitt moving to the ACC. Perhaps Mario chose not to go head to head with UM for a reason. Could it be tougher to make the move from Pitt to UM post-Golden Era than from RU to UM?? Just a thought.

Sugar: I respectfully disagree with your assessment that Mario is not a quality hire for Rutgers. Mario did well at FIU. He has south Florida recruiting relationships and knows the lay of the land down there. Keep in mind tht RU prior to the Chimp was a joke school. It was Schiano, a DC with no prior head coaching experience that started getting local Jersey kids to stay home. Mario has an understanding of that concept and will likely do well at RU.

Mario could do well enough at Rutgers. He is inheriting a 9-win team in a bad football conference. Mario is a very ambitious so perhaps he told the wife that he's got to move to get better gigs and bigger salaries. No elite program is going to hire him out of FIU. I will be interesting to see he does in a bigger venue. Winning in the Sun Belt with second and third tier South Florida talent isn't very difficult.

So, let's say it's true, then which miss fit does Pete call? Let the Butch Davis and Randy Shannon rumors begin.

For the record, Lichenfels made this change PRIOR to the Mario Cristobal announcement. FWIW.

ESPN-

Since Greg Schiano left Rutgers, the tune has changed a bit for Darius Hamilton (Ramsey NJ/Don Bosco). Rutgers and Florida once appeared the top two schools from which Hamilton would decide. Miami did it's best to enter the conversation after an official visit by Hamilton this past weeked.

"Rutgers has a chance here and I think Miami is the biggest threat, but I hope to speak more to him later today," Don Bosco head coach Greg Toal told Mike Farrell of Rivals.com. "Rutgers needs to hire a coach if they want to have a chance I think."

Toal reiterated what Don Bosco teammate Leonte Caroo said in an earlier update about Hamilton's situation with Rutgers. But, Toal intimated Miami has leapfrogged former favorite Florida to acquire the defensive end.

Does Rutgers hire a coach by tomorrow in time for that coach to make an impact on Hamilton's decision?

I think that Hamilton either puts off his announcement, or announces and waits til Rutgers hires a coach before faxing in his LOI.

I think he's looking for any reason to go to Rutgers.

My apologies for an earlier post; it isn't official yet, but espn is reporting the 2 sides are very clost to a deal to make MC the next HC at Rutgers.
