Darius Hamilton update (FAP)

So why would Cristobal reject Pittsburgh in December but take the Rutgers job in February? The supposed reason was momma wasn't interested in leaving Florida.

I see RU as a better opportunity than Pitt even though Pitt has the better history and tradition. Kids in Pittsburgh tend to sign with Big Ten schools. RU has a much stronger natural recruiting base. I think that is more attractive to a Mario Cristobal who has been a south Florida coach his entire career.

tough break on the dead period for Mario

The kid can, and in all likelyhood will contact Mario, since it is the dead period. Doubt we land Hamilton now that RU has hired Mario.

Wrong.

First, hiring the previous coach of FIU isn't impressive.

Second, Mario hasn't signed the contract yet. Even after he does sign it, he's not allowed to recruit. I think there is a 2 day period or so where he has to get compliance training... that's an NCAA rule and I believe Al Golden had to do the same when Miami hired him if I remember correctly.

The kid sounds like he's looking for a reason to stick with Rutgers. This is it. Those that want him at Rutgers will not disparage Cristobal because he came from FIU. If Hamilton speaks with Coach Cristobal, it's probably a wrap.

My gut says Hamilton to Rutgers. That is where he really wants to be. BTW Mario did not turn down Pitt, he wasnt offered the position.

We'll see.

It's probably a wash quite honestly. Pittsburgh is moving out of a dead conference into the ACC. Chryst is also taking advantage of the Penn State situation. Really don't care, but the fact that Mario may be ******** Pete Garcia is okay by me.

Credit Rutgers for moving fast, or trying to, with a coaching hire.

Mario can sell snowballs to Eskimos.

Is UF still in this battle?

.

They are. Nole insiders on other boards think Hamilton is a future Gator so why not? Late pushes rarely amount to **** in recruiting. They give fan bases excitement but it's rare for a kid to not stick with the schools that were originally in it from before.

It's either Rutgers or Florida for Darius Hamilton to me. A lot of people are opening themselves up for huge disappointment if they're personally banking on one or more of these 5 stars to commit to us in order to be satisfied with the class.

Me personally I'm fine with the class as is.

Then why post in the recruiting board? Who cares of people you don't know get let down on signing day.

PentagonCane: You bring up a good point about Pitt moving to the ACC. Perhaps Mario chose not to go head to head with UM for a reason. Could it be tougher to make the move from Pitt to UM post-Golden Era than from RU to UM?? Just a thought.

Sugar: I respectfully disagree with your assessment that Mario is not a quality hire for Rutgers. Mario did well at FIU. He has south Florida recruiting relationships and knows the lay of the land down there. Keep in mind tht RU prior to the Chimp was a joke school. It was Schiano, a DC with no prior head coaching experience that started getting local Jersey kids to stay home. Mario has an understanding of that concept and will likely do well at RU.

Crisotbals FIU team didn't look like the best coached team in the world in the bowl game.

I'm not saying bad hire given the timing and circumstances, but Greg Schiano had offers to coach Miami and Michigan at the time he took Rutgers. He had the 5th ranked defense at Miami.

Cristobal's only accomplishment was to take a new team playing in the Sun Belt Conference and take them from bad to average. Not a miraculous feat with all the recruiting advantages in South Florida, being surrounded by D1 athletes.

Cristobal isn't a bad hire, but most likely a drop-off from where they were under Schiano.
