Anti-Semitic remark led to firing of WQAM host Dan Sileo
The incident that precipitated the firing of WQAM-560 sports talk host Dan Sileo had to do with his on-air comment, “that’s the half Hebrew in me.”
A letter written by Anti-Defamation League (ADL) officials to WQAM management urged the station “to take disciplinary action” against Sileo because of the statement that was made, “with regard to saving money …”
The ADL is a prominent civil rights organization that combats anti-Semitism and all types of bigotry. It sent WQAM’s management the Feb. 15-dated letter — obtained by The Miami Herald — referring to “constituent complaints claiming that Mr. Sileo made the derogatory comment about Jews during his show on Jan. 30.
“This comment … is troubling as it perpetuates offensive and bigoted anti-****** stereotypes about money that have for centuries served to incite anti-Semitism and violence against the ****** community,” the letter stated.
Sileo, a former University of Miami football player, posted on his Twitter account Tuesday that his grandmother was ******, “and because my grandmom is ******..my nfl friends lose all [their] money..i said.. ‘I save [EVERY] nickel I have and that’s the hebrew.”
A person close to Sileo said of the controversial host’s remark, “That was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

That's the pretextual reason for firing him. That allows them to make an argument that they fired him "for cause" if there's any legal beef about money due him. If he was popular and got ratings, they wouldn't have paid a bit of attention to that stupid letter from the ADL.
I recall Sedano saying he actually had good ratings for his slot...he got a ton of bad pub though, this was his second "incident" in a month. He got teh band hammer for saying creepy **** to Erin Andrews on the twitter machine a month ago or whatever, and to be fair, my assumption is, as his ratings rose, he turned up the stupidity on his commentary because that is what was drawing in listeners. Sedano doesn't seem like a dude that wants his station to get listeners for the shock value of the hosts comments, IMO. He seems like a straight sports talk kind of guy with some "guy talk" thrown in and that seems to be the direction QAM has gone with him outside of Sileo.
Follow the paper, Larry. If this dude was a bell cow, he'd still have a job. Sedano wouldn't have **** to say about it either. There are real dudes with real money making those decisions. How many stupid complaint letters do you think QAM got about Neil Rogers? Dude got ratings and brought in money, so he kept working. When his ratings slipped, they got less tolerant of his antics. That's how it works everywhere. These f#cks don't give a **** about any moral code. They'd hire Hitler to do a radio show if he brought in money.
