DAN SILEO HAS BEEN FIRED!

Anti-Semitic remark led to firing of WQAM host Dan Sileo

The incident that precipitated the firing of WQAM-560 sports talk host Dan Sileo had to do with his on-air comment, “that’s the half Hebrew in me.”
A letter written by Anti-Defamation League (ADL) officials to WQAM management urged the station “to take disciplinary action” against Sileo because of the statement that was made, “with regard to saving money …”

The ADL is a prominent civil rights organization that combats anti-Semitism and all types of bigotry. It sent WQAM’s management the Feb. 15-dated letter — obtained by The Miami Herald — referring to “constituent complaints claiming that Mr. Sileo made the derogatory comment about Jews during his show on Jan. 30.

“This comment … is troubling as it perpetuates offensive and bigoted anti-****** stereotypes about money that have for centuries served to incite anti-Semitism and violence against the ****** community,” the letter stated.

Sileo, a former University of Miami football player, posted on his Twitter account Tuesday that his grandmother was ******, “and because my grandmom is ******..my nfl friends lose all [their] money..i said.. ‘I save [EVERY] nickel I have and that’s the hebrew.”

A person close to Sileo said of the controversial host’s remark, “That was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

That's the pretextual reason for firing him. That allows them to make an argument that they fired him "for cause" if there's any legal beef about money due him. If he was popular and got ratings, they wouldn't have paid a bit of attention to that stupid letter from the ADL.

I recall Sedano saying he actually had good ratings for his slot...he got a ton of bad pub though, this was his second "incident" in a month. He got teh band hammer for saying creepy **** to Erin Andrews on the twitter machine a month ago or whatever, and to be fair, my assumption is, as his ratings rose, he turned up the stupidity on his commentary because that is what was drawing in listeners. Sedano doesn't seem like a dude that wants his station to get listeners for the shock value of the hosts comments, IMO. He seems like a straight sports talk kind of guy with some "guy talk" thrown in and that seems to be the direction QAM has gone with him outside of Sileo.

Follow the paper, Larry. If this dude was a bell cow, he'd still have a job. Sedano wouldn't have **** to say about it either. There are real dudes with real money making those decisions. How many stupid complaint letters do you think QAM got about Neil Rogers? Dude got ratings and brought in money, so he kept working. When his ratings slipped, they got less tolerant of his antics. That's how it works everywhere. These f#cks don't give a **** about any moral code. They'd hire Hitler to do a radio show if he brought in money.

He obviously wasn't a bell cow...but no one is a bell cow at the 10-1 slot...that's a black hole.

LOL! Wonder if QAM gave a donation to the ADL for that timely complaint? (the ADL is like Southern Poverty Law Center, that Muslim group, NAACP etc. You donate to them, and they complain/protest/label your target)

That was about the most benign, unoffensive "controversial" remark imagineable.

I bet QAM is thinking, if there is no ADL, we ought to invent one.

They took him out of the drive slot because he wasn't making them enough paper. They moved him to the black hole. Then, when he continued to fail, they ran him. All the rest is subterfuge and pretext. Make money for the company, and you get a lot of leeway. They knew he was a dyck when they hired him. They didn't fire him for being a dyck.

They need to look to bring in new blood.....quit recycling the same hosts from different stations. Find guys outside the Miami market who may have past ties to South Florida who truly care about the local teams!

He is the world's biggest troll. He keeps tweeting out that he is voting for all Duke players on his All-ACC ballot...

BONECRUSHERDan Sileo @DanSileoShow
Alot of DUKE guys on my ALL ACC ballot

Is a troll really a troll if everyone knows what he is doing?

He seemed to really resent the success of the basketball team. Instead of giving credit, the ****** kept saying that it diminished the chances of the football team ever winning anything.

Right. The ADL only complains on little things, cheap, hook nosed, money grubbing. cheap *** stereotypes. But when it comes to Hezbollah and hamas and the real anti semite murderers they disappear. This was a way to get rid of ****leo. period

Popa ****ed his girlfriend! Gave her the dirty sanchez and then donkey punched his mother.

I don't know how this is good news. LOL. Kevin Rogers knows NOTHING about UM football and neither does Guzio. Sileo was a clown but at least he talked about UM football and had UM guys on the radio. Locally there are no UM guys. Portis is not ready to carry a show. 790 could care less about UM football and same with 640 Wmen. I wish 560 Wqam could have worked something out with Michael. But they wanted him to move to South Florida to help with promotion and he wouldn't do it. Hope they have a good option to replace Sileo because we have no UM ties on the radio.

I'll take the job if the $$$ is right down there. What was he making @ QAM anyone have a Ballpark idea?

Sileo was horrible and trashed the program every chance he got. He was also pretty much disrespecting the basketball program instead of celebrating the year they have give us. As for Irvin, that show was beyond unlistenable. It was quite possibly one of the worst shows ever put on the air down here, and that is saying something.
