DAILY DEBATE: What is the scariest game on Miami's schedule?

Not listed anywhere officially but last season they started exactly 4 weeks before the week one matchup. My guess is maybe that Friday August 2nd?
Thanks homie. I saw FSU already practicing in pads and got me wondering.

Florida is #1 bc it's the opener on the road in a rivalry game.

But surprised no one is mentioning Cal.

6th game of the opening stretch, 3K mile trip, jet lag/time zone issues, quiet crowd, strong run game, coming off of USF and VT, and right before the off week which precedes a road trip to L'ville and hosting FSU.

Has chit the bed written all over it

USF could be sneaky. It’s technically a home game for them but I expect half the crowd to be UM fans. Still, they’re capable of keeping up with us if it becomes a shootout. Their defense was cheeks last year but this could very much be one of those games where it’s like 24-17 at the half and Miami pulls away in the second half. They absolutely crushed Syracuse in the bowl game last year so they’re capable of hanging with P4 teams.

@USF because losing to off-brand Florida schools is embarrassing and they are potentially a ranked caliber opponent this year.
Are they actually good this year? I seriously have no clue and am asking. I know they had Bama on the ropes but it seemed like a fluke honestly

We’ve seen emotional early losses destroy Miami teams before. So it’s obviously game 1.

But ****** tech scares me because of the mobile quarterback. That can be the great equalizer.

Also everyone saying 35-40 ppg is way off imo. We don’t have that group nor do we have that staff. We’re talented. But compare us to lsu last year. Daniel’s Nabers Thomas. We don’t have that. That first round talent. We still should be a top 20 unit tho.

The 20th best scoring offense last year averaged 34.5 points per game. If Miami doesn’t average that much with this offense, then Dawson should be replaced

I’m not dawsons biggest fan but I think it’s important to compare our talent level to other teams. We have a deep group on offense. But where are the elite studs? Our guys are draft picks. But more like 3rd-7th rounders.

Also I never checked how much the 20th best offense scored on average. So you got me there

35 points isn’t that much in today’s game. LSU had all those draft picks but they averaged 45 points per game. Miami averaged 32 last year and that was with half a season of terrible quarterback play.

Average points are kind of misleading since you get those cupcake games thrown in there

But anyone that thinks this team can’t score 35-40 is just not being honest about the kind of team we have. I get it though, scars run deep

Dawson has immense pressure to deliver this year

ah man, I had plans to attend this game, you made some valid points I wanted to be ignorant to. I can't attend another loss, the bowl game was my last straw. Need some gimme's.

Yeah, scoring offense is just a piece of the puzzle. There’s teams that averaged over 30 points per game despite having mediocre offenses in most other metrics. Teams could score a lot of non-offensive touchdowns. Or teams could benefit from getting great field position due to defense/turnover/special teams play. But with our roster and our schedule, it’s an outright failure if we can’t average 35.

I fear any team with a mobile qb and decent wrs. When teams spread us out and have a qb that can escape its a scary movie we have seen many times thru the years. USF...Va Tech..GA Tech...FSU. Dont want to fall victim.

I’m usually the type of person that doesn’t like to put certain numbers attached to things ahead of time. Like team wins or things like this. We will know pretty quickly if our offense is legit or not or if the season was successful

But I also think (understandably) if people mainly watch Miami they don’t really understand how good guys like Cam, Martinez, and Brown actually are

It’s really not when you only factor in FBS games, which is what you should always do when looking at stats.

Last year, Miami averaged 30.1 PPG against FBS teams. That ranked 38th in the country. That included 2 games started by Emory Williams and one by Jacurri Brown. Is there anyone who doesn’t feel that we can average 5 more points per game with Cam Ward?

That’s 35.1, which would have ranked 14th in the country last year.

LSU, Oklahoma, USC, and Oregon all averaged 40+ last season. UGA was 39.5, so put them in there. That’s about what you need to be Top 5. I’m not saying the offense has to be there or fire everyone. But jumping from 30.1 to 35 while adding Cam over TVD with Emory/Brown sprinkled in, adding Martinez in place of Parrish and Chaney, adding Brown in place of Colbie with the younger kids too, adding in a healthy Arroyo and Riley Williams…..Top 20 honestly should be the floor with this talent and versus this schedule. We play a lot of teams that had AWFUL defenses last year. 35+ PPG or GTFO.

1. UF, need to win point blank period and as someone said before it’s scary because a loss impacts the program way more than a win

2. USF, under no circumstance can Mario lose a G5 game against anyone in year 3 with the financial investment the program has made

3. Syracuse, last game of the season and the big question will be have the wheels fallen off after a few losses against inferior teams? Or will we get the 2017 PITT comparisons after a good season, just need to get over this final hurdle before a conference ship/playoff run
