That would be a vacation job for him. He would easily out recruit every team in that conference but honestly cristobal should've done the same

Cristobal took a team that was 0-12 and facing sanctions and made them relevant in a short period of time. He found and developed talent Miami, FSU and UF couldn't see. T.Y. Hilton anybody.
AND he's a local hero. Before Golden got hired I would have been delighted if Mario had replaced Shannon.

FIU is not exactly a hotbed program with a long and distinguished history. Same thing with USF. I was at Grad School at USF when they started. They fired Jim Levitt and now FIU fires Cristobal because they didn't meet expectations.
What expectations could they possibly have had? Sure it was a bad year, but bad years happen.
Apparently 5 years of exceeding expectations are easily forgotten.

They are idiots. Cristobal was the best thing that ever happened to em and he will be a great coach somewhere else that can draw a lot of talent

When it's all said and done, I have a feeling Cristobal will be much better off in the long run than FIU

Probably. It wouldn't surprise me to see him end up as an OC somewhere and then jump to another head coaching spot within a few years.

Or maybe his wife who loves Florida so much would be willing to move to Tampa? I hear they're looking for a coach up there...

butch to FIU would be a new low. it would be a move in the wrong direction for butch, down rather than up. most if not all of the other vacancies are either lateral or improvements for butch.

Wow and some wanted Garcia as the AD at Miami?
Your coach passes up on two much better gigs in RU & Pitt to build your program and you dump him?
He'd be the coach of a Big 10 or ACC team now if not for his loyalty.

And I LOL at Butch taking that job, if he does he much more desperate that I ever thought he would be and he must be poison in the coaching ranks.

Incredible that some suggest hiring him as our Oline coach. Our Oline under him was pathetic and their technique was awful. The guy isn't qualified to be an Oline coach, much less head coach. He is a poor man's cfb version of Tony Sporano.

What he should have done is taken that job with the jets 6 years ago.

Disagree, to an extent.

He coached under Coker (2004-2006). How many coaches and players have underperformed here only to excel elsewhere? In other words, when your leader sucks, everyone below sucks as well. I wouldn't gauge his performance under Coker as entirely reflective of his actual abilities.

If I am not mistaken, he coached TE and only Oline for one year.

But considering his track record, the onus is on those who want him to prove how he is a good coach.

I can see the posts coming from retarded Canes fans:

"They're gonna make a big hire and start stealing our recruits. This is bad news for UM"

"They'll hire Butch...combined with the fact that they have their own stadium we are in big trouble"

More like wait for the radio hosts (Sileo, Andy Slater) to say that recruits would rather play for Butch at FIU than Golden at UM. Slater has already started.

I nver understood the Cristobal hype... He was decent... FIU wasn't asking for 10 wins but at least 6 wins and bowl eligibility... He brought back everyone and won 3 games... You can't defend 3 games... Yea he found TY, but why was he only able to find him... Good coaches have consistency and Cristobal wasn't consistent... Every school has one good talent a coach can't hang his career on one player... He didnt perform well against teams with similar talent... 2 winning seasons out of 6... How many years did he deserve... And wasn't better than Shannon... He performance should be judged based on his record against his Sun-belt peers...

I think a previous poster was on to something - Mario may have flirted his way out of a job. Pure speculation, but it makes more sense that Mario decided to interview for or discuss other job opportunities when Garcia told him not to. Butch Davis ain't coaching at FIU.
