Former UM coach Butch Davis, a close friend of Garcia, could be among those in consideration to replace him, but that is not confirmed -- merely strong speculation by a friend of Cristobal. Davis, who has assisted Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano in an off-field role this season, has interest in returning to coaching.

If this was orchestrated by Garcia with Butch's knowledge, truly a new low for Butch. Mario was a player and assistant coach for Butch, correct?

Butch Davis will be head coach of the Dallas Cowboys before he ever coaches FIU. I don't see either happening but he makes more money now than FIU paid Cristobal.

I don't know what FIU is thinking, but this was a crazy move. Cristobal took them to two bowl games, then had one bad season which most recognized was a rebuilding year for the program (they graduated some of their best players, plus had lots of injuries, including to the starting QB). They lost a lot of close games, too... it's not like they were getting blown out.
There has to be something more to this. You don't fire a coach for a mere possibility of hiring someone else (i.e. Butch Davis); there had to have already been talks between Davis and Pete Garcia. Or else Garcia is just nuts.

I wonder what Cristobal's buyout is... they just gave him a contract extension and a raise after he flirted with Pitt and Rutgers last year.

They were 3-9 and averaged about 14,000 this year. Not good.

there is a limit of full time coaches you can have on staff.....believe its 10 but could be wrong...
