And SafetyCorner, maybe edge, DT, and wr
But not really unexpected. Portal help? The comments on the wide outs are very disturbing
Exactly. We have 1 top 10 recruiting class in the last 5 years, 1. And those kids either just got to campus or are still in high school. Let Mario do his thing. In a few years when we have stacked multiple classes like this one or better we won’t be talking about all the holes we have to fill.I had these same arguments last year when I said the season could go to **** fast if any injuries happen, especially on the OL. This team has holes all over it and lacks depth at most positions. The season is long.
The 2020 roster / schedule / Acc has nothing to do with the 2023 versions, every season is its own story.
The talent we do have is mostly young or unproven. The defense being very shaky and thin. If we don’t add talent / depth things could go very bad again. That’s just reality.
Yea. Major issue. Smith, George and Horton are back ups on any ACC team. Restrepo is decent. That entire room is Pathetic.WR room is so depressing. Literally an entire room of 4 stars and only good one is a juco transfer from lackawanna college...
I think there’s some delusion here just like last season, they are sleeping on how paper thin this team is and how lacking the total talent is. They need to hit on the guys they do take after spring , it’ll be huge and Mario knows that. Hence why they’ll be so aggressive. Guys will come and guys will leave after spring but this won’t cut it as currently constructed.Exactly. We have 1 top 10 recruiting class in the last 5 years, 1. I double checked grove! Nothing but respect also, and I could see all 3 corners@Scorpioncane, nothing but respect. But I look at that lineup and come away with a totally different response. I see 6-8 starters who should t start on a 10 win team, much less a team that can compete in playoffs.
Maybe cornerback but only 1
Hey @SinisterCane, @grove, already showed me the error in my thinking. And, I agree! we need some help almost everywhere.Maybe cornerback but only 1
I don’t know that he’s the guy for certain. I think he’s the guy by long-term financial commitment given his contract. I think he’s the guy to upgrade the trenches. I need to see what we do on offense to feel better about them.
I’m not over last year. The roster sucked and yet Manny did better with it and Mario could have too but he chose the offense he wanted not what was intelligent and obvious to even the least technically sound of us on here.
Even in a rebuild, UM should never ever be savaged by MTSU. What a disaster. Mario is way too experienced and highly compensated to make errors like that. Come on.
I’ll just wait to hear posts like this referenced in October when we are in full melt down mode around hereI think there’s some delusion here just like last season, they are sleeping on how paper thin this team is and how lacking the total talent is. LT Jalen Rivers
LG Javion Cohen
C Matt Lee
RG Anez Cooper
RT Francis Mauigoa
Swing Zion Nelson
Edge Nyjalik Kelly
DT Leonard Taylor
DT Jared Harrison Hunte
Edge Akheem Mesidor
Swing Jahfari Harvey
LB Fransisco Mauigoa
LB Wesley Bissainthe
CB Davonte Brown
CB Daryl Porter Jr
Nickel Teccory Couch
FS Kam Kinchens
SS James Williams
Where do we need to make upgrades at?
I share your frustration. Gattis should have been shown the door early on in an ideal setting, but I guess there was too much to work throughI get it. But Mario was also preoccupied with changing over two thirds of his coaching staff. Not an excuse just facts. We can criticize him rightfully for taking so long to back into Gattis and going for experience and star power in Steele and Strong. But most on here agree he needed to address that error above all else. The biggest consequence of that is the early talent in the portal all cleared out before the staff settled in. So here we are…
p.s. my own personal frustration with Mario was that he should have known he needed to make the changes he did by mid October, so wtf did it take so long to land new coordinators and coaches? On the other hand, I think the guys he got are quality hires.
RB - can’t rely on Chaney + Parrish combo, sadly need to act like Citizen is done (he’s not, but it’s going to be a long road to recovery and no guarantee he’s ever the same). Go get a #1 if available. So as it stands this is what a possible starting unit could look like before spring

WR - need two, **** if it was up to me, there would be no cap on this number. My expectation is we end up with 1 that’s pretty close to a #1, which allows Colbie some freedom in 1v1 situations. Personally think one of the freshmen supplants Restrepo, ceiling is higher.
OL - 1 body would be wise, then pray for no injuries.
DLine - I think Deen starts over JHH, dude is a JAG. Need a war daddy regardless to overtake both. People sleeping on Deen…set your expectations low for Gore, and be pleasantly surprised if he can generate some pressures as a situational pass rusher. Speaking of, wouldn’t mind another pass rusher for depth on the edges; seen enough of Harvey to know he too is a JAG.
LB - need a starting quality LB
CB - I want two, but need at least 1 starting caliber guy
S - ditto as above
I’ll dumb this down the best I can. These needs are 16 months old….WTF are we doing?!?!?!?!
1. Correct. Banging that drum for years.1. I feel as if some of you didn’t watch this team last year. If you did, you’d realize how bad the roster AND coaching was. It’s not getting completely fixed in one year; Either commit to the long rebuild, or check out til next year. You can’t just cut 75% of the roster and not renew their scholarships. More will leave in the Spring, but it’s abundantly clear that 85% of upperclassmen aren’t Miami caliber; most of em that are…are transfers. Which Manny-recruited players belong here? LT, Kinchens, Rivers…JHH is a jag, Harvey jag, Couch jag, Keontra/Flagg jag, Chantz meh, James Williams meh, a ton of others have transferred out…like the proof is right in front of y’all. And yet we play them because we can’t overhaul the roster fast enough. That’s the previous regime’s fault for recruiting swing and misses/no development. Work ethic has changed for a fair amount which is nice, but that only gets you so far if the talent isn’t there.
2. Mario failed at just about all levels in year 1 sans recruiting. Most importantly (and unfortunately), both coordinator hires and most of the support staff was a swing and miss. That is all on him, and he should be rightfully ridiculed. But us as fans… We’re just beating a dead horse here and yet most porsters bring it up as if it’s a new discussion point. No **** we’re starting all over and expect more growing pains. These guys have had both the offensive and defensive playbook for what, 1 month? What did you expect, instant gratification? If we’re in this position after year 3…Mario’s clock starts ticking. I personally like Guidry a lot and hear great things.
3. Dawson has to show recruits on the field that WRs can get the ball frequently and in space. X isn’t the same after the foot injury, and he was just a solid college slot before that. Don’t act like all of a sudden he just became average and was some All-American before that…our best chance of success is (apart from bringing in 1-2 guys) is Young, George, and then Robby or Ray-Ray in the slot. Jacolby is frustrating because anyone can watch him and see has the talent. This is where Beard has to make his money as a technician.
4. McCormack is going to help out a ton with blocking. People yelling about him starting over Arroyo or Skinner…understand the playbook. Of course he’ll go out for some routes because if he’s in the game just to block, it’s a dead giveaway to a defense that we’re running. But make no mistake, he’s eons better at the moment in blocking than the other two…and that’s ok. Skinner is more of a hybrid anyways, and Arroyo is still working back from injury.
5. Guidry is going to earn his check this year. We need Wes to take that next step and Francisco to stay healthy/build upon his last season at Wazzu. Need another starting caliber LB to push Wes. Need another safety to allow Guidry the freedom to move Williams like a Swiss Army knife. Need another 2 corners, more likely we end up with 1. If Brown gets hurt, we are screwed. Need a war daddy and the whole D-line changes. Bain will be a monster, the Deen slander is from people who clearly didn’t watch any football outside of Miami games. Dude will impress, especially against inferior lines compared to what he faced in the BIG10.
This is a seven-win team as it stands gun to head, but it’s futile to guess seriously with so many variables and unknowns. The thing is…outside of Clemson and FSU, there’s no one else on the schedule that you’d say is a definitive loss right now…and that’s with ALL the problems we currently have. It is extremely volatile to guess a win prediction so early and with so little depth at key positions. Spring portal can’t come fast enough, and we need to be aggressive with NIL to fortify positions of need. Have to nail most of these transfers…and this isn’t to say that if we get them, we’ll win nine games. Just that the margin for error increases to an extent. Just like 2022, the A&M game will show us all how involved Mario is with offensive game-planning and the overall outlook on the 2023 season.
And lastly….when is Franchise gonna face the crowd like a man and articulate his concerns with Mario and the program? Emojis emojis emojis…I expected more from such a funny guy
They really like Markeith and the Iowa transfer can play S as well. They’re sorting out his role still.I really hope that DB with size is capable of playing both safety positions too. I swear if Kam gets hurt or hit with targeting, we're screwed.
Are there going to be an D1 quality adds to be had? They really like Markeith and the Iowa transfer can play S as well. They’re sorting out his role still.
The freshmen have impressed there, Kaleb Spencer, in particular.
But they’re looking at DB’s for sure.
Lol calm down. He said they struggled at the beginning but balled out later in the scrimmage. They have all summer to learn the offense better and come out sharp.Same comments that we had last year and we saw how that played out
You didn’t even understand wtf I said and you’re telling me to calm downLol calm down. He said they struggled at the beginning but balled out later in the scrimmage. They have all summer to learn the offense better and come out sharp.
