Funny, can't find the post saying we're a CFP contender. Most 'extreme' I've seen is that there's no excuse for not winning 8 (?). And I guess that's optimistic.I think (or at least hope) that most understand you're just giving us the cold, hard facts -- and please know that many of us do appreciate your honesty. Personally, I'd rather receive a candid assessment of where we stand than hear about more Greentree All-Americans that will never end up amounting to anything during the regular season. Anyone who looks at this roster objectively has to see that we lack depth at a lot of positions, so it shouldn't be shocking to hear that a few key injuries and lack of quality portal acquisitions could result in another 5 or 6 win season...some of y'all need to wake tf up.
Alabama under Cristobal had freshman OL starters.@Cribby do you really think Rivers can lock down the LT spot? That’s a big ask even for an NFL IOL talent. And an 18 year old at RT no matter how much potential he had? How were Fox and Winston as freshmen? I know Seantrel and Flowers weren’t ready.
Fox was actually pretty phenomenal as a freshman, and probably weighed about 260. Winston if I recall was really a blocking tight end his first year.@Cribby do you really think Rivers can lock down the LT spot? That’s a big ask even for an NFL IOL talent. Big Manny is on the way to that.I said this team needs an overhaul like Michigan State had it.
We haven't had that yet.
Who said Miami was elite? I said you don’t have to be elite to compete in the ACC. Is Duke elite because the destroyed Miami? We’re nowhere in the stratosphere of elite or even good with talent / depth. I swear this is deja vu from last year lol. Yall are giving me the exact same arguments I got last year. If we don’t pick up help we’ll be walking the exact same razors edge as last year.
Mannnn...Please Jesus don't let this train be Amtrak...Kinchens + Question marks. But that doesn’t change that we lowered expectations considerably for Mario
1. People wish they didn’t watch last season because the product on the field was unwatchable. We said Mario would never let that happen.
2. Duke was terrible and blew us out without needing a complete rebuild. Early season we made excuses and pointed to USC and said they were different due to QB1 and 2 Portal WR1s. Got silent when Duke rag dolled us.
3. Along with Duke, we also blew out FSU under the failed “staph”. Both railroaded us last year and you now have FSU as a sure 2023 loss - and people are OK with that? Holy **** balls
4. How are we ok with the muttering of our QB1 basically calling it mid season and not only not replacing him through the portal, but losing QB2, a QB3 whose Spring progress is he can hit the passing net and a 3 star freshman? Not only didn’t we replace him, he’s the anointed QB1 again. That’s a culture problem when it was a previous staff…
5. I’m not on board with if it gets hot, leave, then come back when the going is better, especially if posters are going to come back throwing elbows like they worked the paint all game fighting for boards. No. If it gets hot, grab a beer and cry in it while the likes of MTSU **** you, like the rest of us.
6. TE. We brought in a blocking TE, FSU got a starter. Lost Brantley. Our depth is either oft injured, brand new or haven’t proven they can catch.
Lastly. No one here is quitting on Mario, but some sure as **** aren’t willing to lower expectations when we’ve invested more than ever and the previous 4-5 regimes the answer was not to be patient and let them work, it was yell louder, burn it down or you hate Miami and settle for mediocrity… no one was giving Lane patience if he produced a year 1 like that… but we’re here giving mulligans..
Let’s ******* go Mario! Fix it! We’re on the train with you!
Careful, that kind of ACCURATE analysis will make you a closet-Nole and eligible for bags of dongs being lobbed your way. Also, being 'critical' or stating facts about Cristobal will earn you mope status. If you think trying to figure out how our biggest rival went from national punchline to 10 game winner is a slurping them, then I think it's safe to say you can't see more than a couple inches in front of you due to willingly getting teabagged by Cristobal. I only care about looking objectively at how other programs have succeeded (or failed).
Prior to last season, every UM single fan was saying that the only reason Norvell hadn't been fired is that FSU was too broke to afford another buyout and still afford Sanders. They looked like a team full of quitters. Norvell was also getting smoked in recruiting. And as bad as Diaz was, no UM fan would have traded him for Norvell. So how did they manage to win 10 games in 2022?
When UM won 10 games in 2017, the main reason for how it could have happened with Malik Rosier at QB is that Richt was an exceptional coach. I don't think anyone would say Norvell is an exceptional coach. So there must be other reasons. Travis was a mid 3 star, yet finished 2022 with 7th best QBR in college football. Compare this with 2021. 4 star TVD had the 11th best QBR and Travis was # 58. If you had to guess which one would have finished in the top 10 in 2022 and which would end up looking like a FCS level backup, I don't think you would said that Travis would be the winner of that showdown.
Best reason I can come up with is that Norvell tailored his offense around Travis. It emphasized what he could do well and minimized what he couldn't. Cristobal decided that TVD was going to run Gattis's offense (which was basically the offense of his former Oregon OC, Joe Moorehead). Cristobal could have hired an OC that built on Lashlees success, but he didn't. Hes since fixed that mistake, but it essentially meant a wasted season. I still haven't found a satisfactory answer for why Cristobal thought it was a good Idea to force TVD to learn a new offense instead of building on Lashlees success.

I love you brother, but I hope you're dead *** wrong on this oneNo disrespect intended to Zion, but no.
Agree. I do think we're trending upward, but dang, we need DUDES.You said you don’t have to be elite , I‘m saying our talent / depth isn’t elite or even good.
We need all hands on deck and then some to compete with most teams in this conference. That’s the point some refuse to get just like last year. Your argument is the exact same one I got when I made the same posts in the previous season.

Do you think Mario is the right guy for us?Mannnn...Please Jesus don't let this train be Amtrak...
C'mon now...Va., Va.Tech, GT, Syracuse, BC, Duke - that's ballpark half the conference. Shouldn't need 'all hands on deck' to compete. Then there's the NC St, Wake, Pitt, UNC, FSU tier - they very well could have injuries too, though I guess depth could be costly in these instances. You said you don’t have to be elite , I‘m saying our talent / depth isn’t elite or even good.

Reading between the lines it seems that he will be relegated to a depth piece which suits him imo.I've been underneath a rock. What's Ladson doing?
He’s got a ways to go for sure but that was always the book on him so I would say he’s on track so to speak
I had these same arguments last year when I said the season could go to **** fast if any injuries happen, especially on the OL. This team has holes all over it and lacks depth at most positions. The season is long.
The 2020 roster / schedule / Acc has nothing to do with the 2023 versions, every season is its own story.
The talent we do have is mostly young or unproven. The defense being very shaky and thin. If we don’t add talent / depth things could go very bad again. That’s just reality.
