My issue is Mario wasted year 1 so bad. We got absolutely nothing out of his first year except an awesome recruiting class and some good transfers. The only silver lining was he knew it was so bad we hopefully upgraded at DC and OC. If TVD is an NFL guy, which he was prior to 2022, their is no excuse to win less than 8 games imo.

Funny, can't find the post saying we're a CFP contender. Most 'extreme' I've seen is that there's no excuse for not winning 8 (?). And I guess that's optimistic.
Do think A LOT of portal defections are 2-deep types seeing greener pastures on other depth charts. The marginal talents generally are seeming to stay put, knowing there's not an adequate landing spot. Who knows, but I have to guess quite a few programs depth is being affected by this. But apparently it's only Miami🙄.

If you think trying to figure out how our biggest rival went from national punchline to 10 game winner is slurping them, then I think it's safe to say you can't see more than a couple inches in front of you due to willingly getting teabagged by Cristobal. I only care about looking objectively at how other programs have succeeded (or failed).

Prior to last season, every UM single fan was saying that the only reason Norvell hadn't been fired is that FSU was too broke to afford another buyout and still afford Sanders. They looked like a team full of quitters. Norvell was also getting smoked in recruiting. And as bad as Diaz was, no UM fan would have traded him for Norvell. So how did they manage to win 10 games in 2022?

When UM won 10 games in 2017, the main reason for how it could have happened with Malik Rosier at QB is that Richt was an exceptional coach. I don't think anyone would say Norvell is an exceptional coach. So there must be other reasons. Travis was a mid 3 star, yet finished 2022 with 7th best QBR in college football. Compare this with 2021. 4 star TVD had the 11th best QBR and Travis was # 58. If you had to guess which one would have finished in the top 10 in 2022 and which would end up looking like a FCS level backup, I don't think you would said that Travis would be the winner of that showdown.

Best reason I can come up with is that Norvell tailored his offense around Travis. It emphasized what he could do well and minimized what he couldn't. Cristobal decided that TVD was going to run Gattis's offense (which was basically the offense of his former Oregon OC, Joe Moorehead). Cristobal could have hired an OC that built on Lashlees success, but he didn't. Hes since fixed that mistake, but it essentially meant a wasted season. I still haven't found a satisfactory answer for why Cristobal thought it was a good Idea to force TVD to learn a new offense instead of building on Lashlees success.

Fox was actually pretty phenomenal as a freshman, and probably weighed about 260. Winston if I recall was really a blocking tight end his first year.

Who said Miami was elite? I said you don’t have to be elite to compete in the ACC. Is Duke elite because the destroyed Miami?

No. If it gets hot, grab a beer and cry in it while the likes of MTSU **** you, like the rest of us.

6. TE. We brought in a blocking TE, FSU got a starter. Lost Brantley. Our depth is either oft injured, brand new or haven’t proven they can catch.

Lastly. No one here is quitting on Mario, but some sure as **** aren’t willing to lower expectations when we’ve invested more than ever and the previous 4-5 regimes the answer was not to be patient and let them work, it was yell louder, burn it down or you hate Miami and settle for mediocrity… no one was giving Lane patience if he produced a year 1 like that… but we’re here giving mulligans..

Let’s ******* go Mario! Fix it! We’re on the train with you!

Careful, that kind of ACCURATE analysis will make you a closet-Nole and eligible for bags of dongs being lobbed your way. Also, being 'critical' or stating facts about Cristobal will earn you mope status.
And about the depth issue..how would the OL depth have looked if Campbell and Clarke had stuck around? And about the 'war daddy' everyone lusts for - would the situation be quite as desperate if Miller was still here? You think Purdue won't miss Deen? WASU won't miss Mauigoa? Have to think most programs are dealing with these types of losses.

You said you don’t have to be elite , I‘m saying our talent / depth isn’t elite or even good.

We need all hands on deck and then some to compete with most teams in this conference. That’s the point some refuse to get just like last year. Your argument is the exact same one I got when I made the same posts in the previous season.

C'mon now...Va., Va.Tech, GT, Syracuse, BC, Duke - that's ballpark half the conference. Shouldn't need 'all hands on deck' to  compete. Then there's the NC St, Wake, Pitt, UNC, FSU tier - they very well could have injuries too, though I guess depth could be costly in these instances.

**We should be able to  compete against the vast majority of our conference opponents.

I respect the fact that you're sourced, and I'd imagine these concerns have been expressed to you (from a UM point of view). Just feel MANY programs are facing similar challenges. Yes, more time required to out-talent the competition. Could one problem be that that the head man isn't equipped to succeed on a level playing field?

Without question! I believe in him but he should remain humble and own it 100%; no need to invoke stigma against black QBs.

He's undisciplined in his preparation and over-reliant on his athleticism, which is completely on him.

So at what point then does he earn that salary of he ever does in fact earn it?

What I mean by that is, he's literally a corch if he and his staff can't coach up whatever he was handed and brings in through the portal. He's simply a good seller of dreams, in effect, a recruiter who needs superior talent to win.

There's many coaches out there who do more with less. To me, he's looking like who and what many of us thought he was when he was hired.
