MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

If the SEC wanted us, that would be the best spot.

Setting aside the six flagship/co-flagship schools aside (UNC, NCSU, UVA, VT, Clemson and Tallahassee JC), I think the other three ACC schools on the SEC's list would in order be:

1) Duke

2) GA Tech

3) UM

Duke delivers the nation's No. 1 brand in basketball and elite academic prestige even beyond the additions of UNC and UVA. The latter matters a lot to SEC presidents who ultimately must sign off on their commissioner's expansion maneuvers.

Georgia Tech brings additional academic stature as well as its hub location at Ground Zero for the conference itself. No way the SEC lets the B1G plant its flag in Atlanta

ESPN for sure would have Miami above GT, but the folks in Bristol don't get to make these choices. Sankey is looking down the road and not just at his current media partnership. Apple and Netflix might get the next SEC deal for all we know

Not being argumentative, but why r we fully focused on The B1G? Imho, the only conference that makes sense from a perception, regional, attendance, recruiting standpoint is the SEC. I’m really not sure when this thread became all B1G (I’m lying, yeah I do), but this myopic view of our fan base keeps distorting big picture.
Because the SEC, myopically, doesn't want Miami.

They will regret it.

You do know the SEC offered us and FSU years ago and ended up taking SC and Arkansas when both of us declined.

SEC commissioner was gonna go from 10 to 16 in 1990:

A) Texas and A&M said no due to Lone Star State politics

B) Arkansas — eager to get away from a Texas-centric conference — said yes for the 11th spot

C) Florida State seemed like a layup as the Noles had been begging for SEC membership dating back to the 1950's. But the ACC commissioner sweet-talked FSU's administration and ultimately Bowden preferred the easier road in the ACC.

D) UM could've been No. 12, but the Sam Jankovich-led decision-makers deemed the conference to be a poor cultural fit for UM. So South Carolina was the default pick

Hilarious. The SEC would be outstanding for Miami in every aspect - recruiting, big games, and a huge benefit for travel. Does Sankey want Miami to have those advantages? Does Bama and UGA etc? Don’t see it ever happening. It would be outstanding if UNC and Miami went to the SEC with Clemson and FSU to the Big.

Sankey is a commissioner of a conference in which is he said he wants to be the best conference in every sport. This notion of “not wanting Miami…” is more made up conjecture. If that’s the case, would OSU want that? Would PSU want that? Like what r we talking about out here?

Seems like things are aligning for UNC to perhaps be the first school to announce. Would be hilarious- FSU files suit and basically wins - having a realistic exit fee established ( with media rights). Then UNC leaves for a full share in the SEC - without NC State ( due to a new ruling pending approval that requires them to play UNC every year in several sports even if they are not in the same conference).

If we handle our business, **** right the SEC will regret it

If we don't, they'll collectively laugh their asses off as we fly off to the West Coast for a baseball road trip or lose a football game at Minniesoda in 12-degree weather

Huge difference - the SEC is already in the south. The B10 wants to move INTO the south as part of its goal to be ‘National’. Totally different situations.

Mark my words mi amigo.

SEC will take UNC and NC State plus Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Sankey doesn't just want a presence in those two fast-growing states — he wants the SEC to own them

Says who? U mean the conference that’s under contract until 2034 that said at this time we have no plans to expand?
I believe Sankey is being very hubristic.

What will save his legacy is a Super Conference.

Absent that and IF...big IF...B1G flanks SEC with Miami + GT + Texas-ish + Mid-Atlantics...

The next SEC Commish will curse Sankey....

We'll see how it shakes out.

I know some have suggested there's a chance UNC, UVA, FSU and Clemson could end up in the Big Ten, but I think that's just posturing and smoke screens.

UVA is gonna want to end up wherever 1) UNC and 2) Duke go — and their athletic boosters would throw a fit if VT goes to the SEC and the Wahoos don't. Easier just to remain a pair in a much more geographically-friendly conference that's stronger in both basketball and baseball — two sports in which UVA has successfully competed on a national level

No way!! The State of Miami was not in The Original Confederacy, which remains the number 1 priority of the SEC…

The big unknown is how much of the ‘who goes where’ is being determined strictly by ESPN and FOX rating analysts who have no ( or at least very little) real interest in college football or even what impact is on ‘the universities’. Literally everyone is purely speculating it is a hugely interesting topic but nobody outside of the networks knows what is really happening and with what timeline. Could have massive change by the 2026 season - if the networks want it.
