MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

I thought the ACC was dying and GORs were not enforceable?

Looks like I have a lot of reading to catch up on today, lol
What you are missing is that a). The media agreement terminated as has been stated repeatedly on 6/30/27. What is taking place is a NEGOTIATION that is ending up with a). A NEW media agreement that apparently will either end in 2030 or have "outs" for several teams at that time and b). A new compensation package that will include ADDITIONAL MONEY for essentially bonus payouts to the top VIEWERSHIP teams in the conference ... expected to be FSU, Miami, Clemson, and UNC. Expectations are that by 2030 as many as 6 teams will leave the ACC and will be backfilled by USF, Memphis and others, making the ACC then almost a mirror of the B12 ... a host of secondary brands. This is not a case of simply status quo.

Where are you seeing that it will end in 2030 or teams will have outs? The Yahoo articles does not mention that, but maybe another article does?

Lol...I'm confused. People are celebrating? ACC got waxed into providing better prime time matchups in exchange for...no increase in revenue? Lower side of our conference will be falling further behind
I didn't read it that way- they talked about new sponsors which imply more $$$$$, they talked about better matchups and using ND to create those matchups which would mean more exposure, leading to more $$$$$. They specifically did not state anything about revenue, which leads me to believe there will be more, at least for the brand names, but they did mention that some schools accepted the argument that getting less than the brand name schools was the best they could hope for.
Putting all that together, my guess (and it's just that) is that Miami, FSU, Clem, and ND will be getting additonal money on top of what everyone received, but everyone in the conference will continue to get the same as the contract provided. So, if the contract provided $45 million to everyone, Clem, FSU and Miami would be getting roughly the same as ND gets from their sources.

That was the speculation by one of the media gurus who made a preliminary "announcement" of the fact that a deal had been struck ... "pending viewing final actual details of the new agreement". It was stated that it was a NEW media agreement that included additional funds to be distributed according to parameters including conference success and brand success (viewership) and COULD have a revised GOR termination date. At that point nobody had seen any finished document ... or a formal statement by ESPN.

1136 pages and we still don't have any idea what is actually going on with the University of Miami, the ACC and the other conferences. Glad I skipped over ~1100 of them.

To me, the only points that really matter are 1. how much we will earn versus our SEC and BiG rivals in revenue share per year 2. what preferential treatment, if any, will be given in football playoff selection. Point 2 has a huge impact on Point 1, obviously.

I personally don't put a premium on playing FSU and Pitt each year vs playing Michigan and Michigan State or Florida and Auburn. My primary concern is with the $$$$$ and playoff exposure.

So we are guaranteed substantially less than the SEC and B1G teams for over a decade more. In addition, the big boys will get 4 each guaranteed spots in the CFP. Welcome to the kiddie table.................................
We are likely getting less than the $EC and B$G. We are likely getting more than most of the rest of the A¢¢. Considering we signed an agremeent to stay with the ACC for 20 years in 2016, and we have no invitation to join either of the conferences mentioned, this is as good a deal as we could get. Perfect? not close. But remember, even with the B$G money UCLA is still losing a ton of money and Ohio State has a huge deficit, and we haven't heard from the rest of the schools in either conference but there will be more schools who are losing money like a complusive gambler in Vegas. So, not where we want to be, but far from the end of our ability to compete.

I just want to ensure we get competitive media rights revenue with the P2 until the super league forms.

I normally don’t chime in on this albatross of a thread, but when certain statements r made, I have to correct them.

1. UCLA’s main goal for joining the B1G was the huge deficit they were left w/ due to Covid, Under Armour reneging on its endorsement, & the **** poor PAC-12 contract. It was a perfect crescendo. They will be out of the red in approx. 2-3 yrs.

2. OSU’s #’s r a bit fudged, & some of those #’s r based upon fewer home games during the 2023-4 season vs. the 2022-23 season. I’m sure that $37m will be completely absolved once the #’s come in for the 2024-5 season.
OSU, TAMU, UT, Bama, & UofM r by far the most profitable ADs.

So to ur point, competitive with the ACC? Sure; but, competitive with the bigger programs in said conferences? It’s going to get much more difficult, especially when different escalators hit, & these programs can continue to reinvest in themselves generating more revenue opportunities outside of media rights deals.

I told you guys WE NEED TO SUE

it was the only WAY for ESPN to take the threat seriously. They saw UNC AND MIAMI sitting IDLE and said stfu fsu, we RIDE

Shame on our admin for sticking with this SORRY *** CONFERENCE. Terrible day for MIAMI ATHLETICS

Well, best we can hope for is trying to take our throne of the Conference's tallest midget so we can also get performance incentives and playoff money to get within 20 million of the SEC and B1G schools. Swofford needs his ******* *** kicked and sued off for this **** deal he put together to enrich himself and his family.

Bottom line by staying IN the ACC we are guaranteed

-to earn considerable LESS revenue annually than the Big 10 and SEC even with the incremental bonus payout
for a). record / winning and b). Viewership (brand strength).

-the P2 conferences are pushing for 4 auto bides each ... and they have actual contractual control of CFP structure from
2026 for the term of the agreement (7 years?).

-The P2 will be getting significantly more nationally broadcast games than the ACC and that pushes FUTURE revenue more
and is a huge recruiting plus. It is going to be much more difficult to attract elite recruits to non P2 conferences.

Miami needs to be out of the ACC as soon as possible. Will that be 2030 or is it possible it can be accomplished sooner? ESPN controls ... everything.

Eh, easier path to the playoffs certainty. ACC was two plays away from having three bids this year.

I'm reading the articles to heavily imply that revenue will increase. Tbd
