MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

Louisville reportedly received a B12 invite back in May of this year. They know the B2 spots are limited. Pitt might have to swallow their pride and realize that with Penn State in the B10 there is no room for them there.
IMO the B12 would be willing to take any and all of:

Louisville
Pitt
NC State
GT
VT
Maybe Duke because of basketball

That means only 3 or 4 other teams need to find homes in the B1G and SEC.

Miami
Clemson
FSU
UNC
[BGCOLOR=initial]are locks to leave [/BGCOLOR]

ND is a vote to dissolve

UVA would likely find a home in the SEC or B1G

The only real dissenters are probably:

WF
BC
Syracuse

Because they don't have an equivalent or better home to go to. They'd probably end up in the CUSA or something.

I think the reason a lot of these conferences failed or are failing in the first place was each one had more then 2 state schools in a conference.

ACC - UNC, NCST, DUKE WAKE
BIG 12 - TEXAS, A&M, BAYLOR, TTECH., TCU, Houston, SMU
PAC 12- UCLA, USC, STANFORD, CAL

and let not bring up certain smaller states that have two teams in one conference.

I dont think Canes, FSU and Gators should all be in the same conference

It's what happened when the SWC dissolved in 1996. Houston, Rice, SMU & TCU had to go G5. SMU & Rice still in purgatory.

Cuse would put the hoops back in big east

FSU is not leaving if it has to pay $100+ Million in buy out money. No school is paying that kind of money at a moment's notice.

Heck, Jimbo might suck again this year and A&M will still probably have to keep him because of the $80+ million in buyout money. They are a rich school, but even they have limits to what they're willing to spend.

$65M per year media deal.
Still behind SEC and Big10 deals.

With so much $$$ at stake and the fact that FOX / CBS / NBC are driving the current realignment actions (growth of the B10 and demise of the Pac) it just makes sense for the media partners to have a sit down and put cards on the table. FOX/CBS/NBC can make life very difficult (and expensive in lost revenue) for ESPN or they can work together and facilitate the next stage of realignment. That is the elimination of the ACC conference, shutting down the ACCN (and it's associated operating expenses) and folding the ACC programs into the B10, SEC and B12 (maybe Wake and BC end up in the AAC). The ACC conference and the GOR are looking like the old Berlin Wall ... felt to be impenetrable ... then came down quickly.

Shut down the ACCN?

Oh no …where will they advertise the stand-up Cane….

You clearly aren't following the numbers.

If B10 schools make $25M+ per year extra compared to the ACC it doesn't take much brain power to figure out its better to leave and pay than stay and rot.

Clown post of the entire thread. Yeah ... ND is going to join full time. They have NO NEED to do anything but support the dissolution of the ACC so they have all of their game scheduling rights back and then their media partners set up MAJOR scheduling deals with BOTH the B10 and SEC. That way they can make more than being a member of either of the B2 conferences. 5 games with each, and 2 games for traditional rivalries. Done.
Some of you think too much of yourselves. Where in that post says that I think they’re joining? What I said was it’s the ACC’s only hope which is correct.

Exactly. The question now is numbers being their adding 5 teams already.

All I know is right now Stanford and Cal have to be begging to get into the BIG10. Both schools are academic fits as they are both AAU accredited universities. They make sense geographically with the other west coast schools AND would hypothetically shut other conferences out of west coast media. The hangup though is they don’t bring a lot to the table revenue-wise.

This is how I see it. You’re still making more by leaving with that type of revenue discrepancy plus there will likely be additional revenues for research, game attendance…

You think the NC Legislature is going to allow NC St to be left out of it if UNC is going? I don’t see that.
NC ST is the red headed step child to UNC. That being said, both being state schools might create some issues if NC ST is not included in some deal.
