Coaching Staff

Every single WR coach in the country not named Brian Hartline missed on Jeremiah Smith and Brandon Innis. Although It’s more like dodged a bullet with Innis.

In two years he’s signed four 92 or higher rated WR recruits. It would have been five but Malachi Toney dropped when he re-classified. The only other position group that can say the same thing is Edge.
True. It absolutely sucks to lose freaks like Jeremiah, but Hartline has taken on God like status to many of these elite high school receivers around the country…it is what it is. We’re still recruiting very well at that position and as long as our offense continues to be explosive every year we’ll be ok.

There’s nothing wrong with the program. Beard has not been offered a new contract because Mario wants to upgrade that position.
FWIW, I have heard Leonard Hankerson's name mentioned as a replacement for Breard if we let him go. Maybe one of the insiders like @TheOriginalCane can add something to this, since he said awhile back that we had a replacement for a certain coach.

Would be a tremendous hire if this happens I just think Hank has to be closer to an OC title in the NFL. His units have produced well there.

I’m not defending the decision. Does Mario think if he had a different WR coach he lands them? Maybe. Do I think that’s a dumbass thought, absolutely. There could more reasons that me as a fan with no connections to the program is missing. Maybe they don’t like his coaching. Maybe he played a role in Horton leaving. Could be a number of reasons.

The easiest thing I could find would be that. Again, I think he’s been a good hire. Probably the best he’s made. Actual tangible proof of his development. I’m not lumping Mirabel in for obvious reasons. Beard has vastly outperformed what my expectations were for him.
The fact that we were even in the conversation for Smith is impressive among itself. Even if Ward committed before national signing day, I still think Smith would have ended up at OSU. And yes, I read the same article everyone else did. When we start producing talent like Hartline has, then we can start landing the Jerimiah Smiths of the world

Syracuse likely leads for Calvin Russell as it is. Unless Russell is not a fan of him, I can't see how Miami "encouraging" Beard to leave for Syracuse helps us there.

We've got a ton of question marks on offense as it is. But WR probably has the most.

Let's say we bring in Hankerson (which I'm not even against). He would be stepping into a room that's losing its top 4 guys. He has not coached at the FBS level since 2018. He doesn't have relationships with any of the guys on our board.

Its a start from scratch situation. Not the best timing.

I like his coaching on the field. The last 2 recruiting WR classes are certainly better than decent. Knd of hard to stay if you don't have a contract. Why doesn't he have a contract with a raise? Just a thought.

I agree. I honestly don’t think we could’ve done anything more to land him. My take on these big time prospects is, Mario is the main recruiter. Sure the position coach helps, but he runs point. If we had Ward coming into his second year here last season, I’d maybe believe we would’ve landed him. But we didn’t.

If we start by recruiting WRs out of high school like Hartline has to “produce” the talent like Hartline has maybe we can start having the draft results like Hartline has.

I don’t believe in the “production” reputation that OSU/Hartline has. When you recruit the top WR talent year in and year out, you start to have high draft picks at the position and develop that reputation. They don’t take diamonds in the rough and turn them in to something. The hardest part is having a favorable Offensive system to put those guys in a position to put up numbers. We’ve shown we could do that with the right personnel. Now we have to get the right personnel again.

South Florida native and Miami alum leaving Miami to go scrape ice up by Canada, for the same position? Would be so shocking i'd start to think Mario was looking around. Makes no sense

I talked about Beard a while back, and certain porsters claimed that some of us were just making up rumors.

Personally, I'd love to see Beard stick with it. He's good at what he does, and he has a lot of respect in the community. It would certainly help him to land a couple of 5-star WRs this cycle.

I don't think we will "let Beard go". If he leaves, it will be his choice.
