Coaching Coaching Carousel 2024 - 2025 - Not Miami Related

Hearing Mack Brown is going to hang it up. Virginia is exploring the idea of moving on from Tony Elliott but he could salvage his job by beating SMU and/or VT and going to a bowl. Then, VT is expected to fire Brent Pry unless he wins the next 2 games. A loss to Duke and/or Virginia is likely it for him. They're not riding out a bad coach again like they did with Fuente (at least that is what their boosters say).

3 of the top 7-8 jobs in the ACC. Curious to see how those fill up if they all come open. Carolina will have plenty of options and land a good coach. Virginia has had a lot of interest the last 2 times it has opened. Elliott wasn't a nobody at the time he was hired. They might land someone pretty solid. VT has the best pedigree of all 3 but doesn't have near the same interest in the coaching community lately.

If big jobs open up, Brent Key will be in high demand. If he leaves his alma mater, that's another program in decent shape.
Two programs without the proper infrastructure to really compete. Mack is their Mark Richt but lasted far beyond expiration. There was word that he was out at the end of this year in the spring. So, that comes as no shock.

UNC should probably go a little younger and with someone that knows what a real programs NIL Collective looks like.

UVA isn't equipped for this era...Tony Bennett leaving the basketball program told us everything we needed to know, if Bronco Mendenhall just getting up and leaving didn't.

I think UNC and VT would both want Jamey Chadwell. Could see him at VT and UNC going to someone like Jon Sumrall or Barry Odom.

Regarding UVA - you might be right but I saw Bronco and Bennett leaving more as being old school and not liking NIL in general more so than the school's inability or unwillingness to compete there. I've heard they have some desire to be more competitive and compete especially now that they have garnered some SEC consideration in realignment talks. I could be wrong. I also think UVA would pursue Al Golden, so point may be irrelevant either way.

Didn't Chadwell turn VT down when they took Pry? Maybe I'm an idiot.

I agree with UVA...they need someone young that knows what they are doing or at least willing to help direct the program. Its a No Country For Old Programs moment for them.

Not even sure if they could afford coaches like Schumann, Kwiatkowski (pick your poison or adjacent - coaches at established 'know what they are doing' programs).

UVA vs VT is interesting. UVA is closer to local prep talent than VT, which is literally in the boonies, but VT has a stronger alum and fan support. The saying is UVA vs VT is about "culture vs agriculture"...lol. If I'm a coach I'm looking at UVA due to location, and they've shown they can win at other sports.

If Manny can become HC at Duke, then Al can get a HC job, too.

With the accolades his ND defense is receiving this year, I highly doubt Al Golden will still be Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator when Miami plays them next season.

Feel like Golden is a Big 10 type of guy. Purdue? NW? Maryland?

Jamey Chadwell is a name that low key scares me regarding all 3 of those schools.

& u’re partially right about UVA; Tony Bennett left b/c he felt the landscape of CBB w/ NIL & the Transfer Portal wasn’t good for the game or him as a coach, however, Mendenhall stepped down due to family & religion.

He’s a devout Church of Latter Day Saint member, which is part of the reason he stayed at BYU for so long. He mentioned being so far away from his grass roots was creating a strain & he needed to reassess his entire life, particularly family & religion. He went back to New Mexico which is an area that’s closer to his familiarly (Oregon, Utah, Arizona, & NM) are the areas he’s mostly spent his time in as a kid and adult.

Al Folden will never do good anywhere as a Head Coach.
Perhaps the Penn State administration will require a mediocre alumni as their only choice for their next head coach and rebuild them to do it the right way.

Golden will get a HC job this year. A reunion at Temple or Virginia might give him a look. He was on Al Groh’s staff back in the day.
