Coach Richt on South Florida three stars

Still laughing at the comment regarding Johnson. Glad Richt put to rest that the move was solely for family purposes.

Not family purposes...dog purposes. Those West Coast kids miss their dogs a lot.

Dogs don't live for very long. Everyone knows that. By the time you get done with three-to-four years of school, the dog might be dead for all we know.

Especially true for kids named D.J. Everyone knows that. One D.J. stuck it out, the other......

Garvin ate his lunch, then went back and had seconds.

Some of the things I had heard was he was extremely inconsistent, would look great one rep then get mauled for several reps. Also didn't have much bend. I guess he complained frequently about playing time and Garvin being ahead of him, but whenever they put DJ in a game he'd either lose the rep or have a mental error.

He never looked good in the games. I thought he was overhyped from the start. His highlight tape was him dominating 5’8 white kids from California.

"You kind of get caught up in the stars and all that kind of stuff. But when you recruit at the University of Miami, and this South Florida region, you are going to find some gems that are three-star guys because there are so many other great prospects down here.

If Rousseau was somewhere in the middle of the state of Georgia, dominating the league he was in, he might have been a five-star guy. But he's in an area with a lot of population and a lot of football, so he didn't get those big star ratings. But the guy is going to be a heck of a player.

Garvin was the same thing a year ago. Not many people thought Garvin out of Lake Worth was going to be anything, three-star guy, and he's turned out to be a heck of a ballplayer, too. One guy left and went back home because Garvin played more than he did. We're going to play the best guys."

Garvin was not what he said. Kul found him first, but Clemson wanted him too by the time others had evaluated. Stars aside, recruiting against Clemson generally means you’re targeting a great peospect.

Richt’s comments sound a bit beaten down. Three stars is fine, if it’s a good eval and you’re getting the kids you want. If you’re losing the kids you want to other programs, talkin 3*s on the kids you settle for is less convincing.

I do;t care about losing to alabama for a georgia kid. That will happen. Win your local battles most of the time and we will be fine. But ladson leaving, lucas, dent, those are the sort of kids we need to be keeping in so fla.

Which was still the coaches fault I guess.

Smh at kids these days. Always someone else’s fault.

Despite the family reasons, does anybody have a idea why DJ Johnson underperformed here.

UNDERPERFORMED? He was a goddamm freshman. Nobody said that he underperformed, he just didn't get the Day 1 playing time that he wanted and that another guy got.

Why don't we ask why Jonathan Garvin OVERPERFORMED? Yet another stupid post from a suspect newbie.

If kids could transfer at will, and in my opinion they should be able to, they wouldn’t have to make up silly excuses like “family illness”. Kid probably had 50 reasons to leave Miami and lack of playing time was only one of them.

But it is stupid to on the one hand say he’s a ***** and then give credit (which is deserved) to Garvin for playing like a 5* - but saying DJ got beat out by a 3*. DJ was beaten out by a “misranked 5*” - which is kind of Richt’s point and it also applies, so far (talking about practice) to Rousseau.

There are worse mistakes an 18-year old can make than leaving a school to early and maybe he learns from this one. I wish him well.
It would be a **** show if kids could transfer at will chill lol

There's no way around it. We're getting worked locally at this point during this cycle.

For whatever reason, this local class doesn't seem to be as pro-miami as the past few. We have a lot of ground to make up.

What you’ve described is weak competition and that he was over ranked, that’s different than “he was weak”. And, maybe by finding out that he “wasn’t that great” at Miami/ACC, he was smart enough to put himself in a position to succeed/play. People can believe that wait your turn crap if they want to but players get better by playing. Learning the different techniques they need to defeat.

The PAC-12 may be the best place for him. He can learn to bend; he’ll have to learn to play with a higher motor; he’ll get confidence winning reps against “lesser” competition; he’ll see the field sooner and more frequently.

He might be a bust but a 6’5, 270-280 lbs PAC-12 player 3 years from now running a sub-4.7 and maybe a sub-4.6 WILL GET DRAFTED NO LATER THAN ROUND 3.

Lol

Which I find interesting because didn't we have articles written shortly after the NSD debacle about the "buzz" surrounding Miami?

Main reason he underperformed bc he's a scrub... w/ the charmin soft mentality he has doubt he amounts to anything football related no matter where he's at.

Just because they haven’t committed yet doesn’t mean we are getting worked.

Remember though, it is defeinitely a down year for Dade. Broward is "local" and we've improved under Richt in Broward for sure, but it is still no cup of tea for UM. Expect to land about 40-50% of Broward offers even in a good year for UM

Deep, deep year in Broward, even deeper than usual imo...Gotta hits some kids on there, but that's always a circus. Hopefully STA is good to us this year and it seems that way with Ingraham, the linebackers, etc
