Coach D's arrogance

Well he is right about the missed tackles. Nonetheless, I'm done with this guy.

These guys have just had enough, of getting pistol whipped by scrub offenses all game long. How many times do you get beat by the same play on the same drive before you just give up.

I give the players kudos, for not packing it in sooner.

Sad thing is that , for the most part you are all right. I think our best bet would be for UConn to hire Dorito.

One thing that drives me crazy is the predictability and the failure to successfully disguise coverage.

For example, the FSU game where there was a screen pass called after a timeout after showing very obvious blitz twice. I feel like we never show blitz and then proceed to back out or anything of that variety.

Also, when we put the pass rushers (McCord, Gilbert, Muhammad etc.) inside and do the most basic simple stunts to the outside. It is 3 year of his defense and everything should be installed at this point. For a "multiple" defense it sure lacks creativity.

From the Herald:

“I think they've done a lot of good things throughout the year,” D’Onofrio said of his defense. “We won seven straight games. We had to win a lot of games in the fourth quarter. We had to hold a team [North Carolina] to comeback on the road. But I do think in some of those [wins] there were some [troubling] signs.

“I told you we weren't tackling. I told you we weren't causing fumbles or taking the ball away. Those were things that weren't fixed and those are the same things I was telling the defense. Again, it's hard unless you're doing like we are everyday and seeing every single play and knowing what the calls are and the responsibilities are. It's been the missed tackles and somebody cutting an assignment, cutting somebody loose. We had too many today. I've been saying that since I've been here.”

He blames the players. He throws them under the bus. Not just for last night, but for their bad play the entire year. None of the wide open receivers and 3rd down conversions were a result of his scheme or play calls. They were all blown assignments. Don't you worry guys, he's been telling the team what they've been doing wrong all year, but they just won't listen. I mean, I really feel bad for the guy to have work with such stubborn players who won't listen to him when he's proven time and again that he knows what he's doing, and that his defense can shut down high powered offenses as well as the I-AA Bethune-Cookmans of the world.

He sounds like Randy Shannon.

That is exactly what I was thinking!

:crownpour: another year with that idiot ag will be gone write that down, The tie is starting to get tighter around his kneck as we speak. People on this board can get mad but never liked the AG from the start i wanted Leach

As a DC you need to have some awareness and change things when they aren't working.

During our game against FSU game Herbstreit made an interesting comment. He said that after their game against BC, Pruitt realized his Bama scheme wasn't as effective with the personnel at FSU currently and he adjusted a bit. If you guys remember, their defense was very suspect early on in the season. The game after BC was Maryland and they shut that offense down and have been lights out since.

I wish he would be as cut-throat and assertive in designing and implementing our defense.

Edit: Oh, and this is a really good method of losing your unit. They're not idiots. They can see better than most of us that the scheme sucks.

Donofrio really indicted himself by saying he's been trying to get the players to understand something for three years, but it's still not sticking. That is extremely disconcerting.

I got an idea for you coach D, quit putting your players in position to fail. Players like Howard and Burns should be playing press man. Souf Florida afletes should be attackin.

What happens when you can't generate a pass rush. ?

How about NOT having Shayon Green as your Jack/Cat LB.
How about putting your pass rushing DEs on the field more than just 3rd and long
How about designing a competent blitz????

Solid points. But it also begs the question, maybe we dont have anything better. Losing EJ really hurt this defense IMO. And its no surprise we were desperately looking for a JUCO LB last season, and we are again this season. Our LBs are bad. REALLY bad, and that, more than anything is what is letting teams tear us up on these crossing routes. These guys cant cover to save their lives.

They are being asked to go one on one with a WR in space. Name we 1 LB in the world that could do well when put in that position. There are plenty of teams with LB as talented as ours that can field a good/competent defense.

Coach D is like the old man that owns a Porsche but never really gets it out on the interstate. He putt putts around doing 45 MPH in it. FAIL!!!

Rant/

What I don't get is the following...
1. Why are we dropping LB's 10-15 yards deep during a pass play? This is why everything short is open, like, side of the barn open.
2. We have the CB's to play press man. Freaking do it.
3. Forget this 34/43 hybrid, pick one and go. FL kids attack. They don't sit there and fill gaps. If you want that, leave Miami and go to a big 10 team.
4. I swear if I see one more play were the CB's bail out on the snap to play cover 3, I'm going to scream. Every time we do this, the other team throws it to the flat, a WR screen, or something short on edges and pick up nice yardage every time.
5. The blitz 'package' we use, good lord, Ray Charles can see them coming.

Enough is freaking enough already. Mix up the plays, show 7 coming and either send them or peel off into another play (see 2001 Va. Tech against Dorsey in the red zone). I think it's time for coach Golden and D to check out how Michigan State plays defense. Take a few plays for them if they can't get creative.

What I don't understand is, how can they look at the results and not think a change is needed? And by they, I mean Golden. I don't care if this is the defense he wants to run, he's going to be the one ultimately judged by the wins and losses. I mean, at the end of the day, you can't blame"freelancing" and "missed tackles" on every team going for over 500 yards against you. Especially when two of them (UNC and VT) don't have good offenses, with one (VT) being horrible. I can't believe I was duped, and bought the lack of talent, youth excuse last year. I mean, it was true to an extent, but we never should have been that bad. We still should have had a defense in the 50s or 60s. A Miami defense should never be 116 or whatever we were last year. This defense, if it keeps this up, will not finish in the top 75 in total defense. So, yeah, they "improved" from last year, but still horrible, especially in year #3.

my concern is.....given his pedigree (UVA, BC, Temple)......what if Golden is okay with being judged on 9 and 10 win seasons? What if we win 2 of our next 3 and this coaching staff actually considers this season a success?

Right now, I don't want to hear the stops D made in earlier games this year. They were for the most part against teams that barely had a pulse.

d.

Wow. This ************ is clueless to the fact that he basically admitted that he hasn't been able to get the job done over the past 3 years. Blake needs to step in and demand that Donofrio is replaced.

Golden and Dorito have been making excuses for three **** years. And 95% of posters have done their best imitation.

I just hope Golden is man enough to admit his mistake and go in another direction on D.

As the co-architect of that atrocious D, it's going to be tough for him to admit that. Those 2 appear to be inextricably intertwined.

Has golden stated that this defense is his (or at least co-designed with D), or is that pure speculation? I see it said here a lot but I've never read it.

Reason I ask is IF it is true, and IF golden ever got rid of coach D, odds are he would bring in someone to run the same style. I'm asking myself if he would turn over the keys if the right DC came along.

Goldens had front row tickets to Doritos garbage fire
