It's a fact that 1st year head coaches get their best classes at UM. Make all the excuses you want. 1st year guys everywhere get a bump at big name programs. There's a legitimate reason here for concern. This is something we should know for sure next cycle. Bottom line there's no good excuse to lose out on all the top WRs and TEs with the overwhelming tradition of NFL players and the lack of talent on the roster at those positions.
Ah, yes, revisionism at its best.
The so-called "recruiting bump" with first year head coaches doesn't occur at all programs.
It only happens at programs that have been winning big recently, usually within the last 4-5 years where the
current batch of high school studs don't have to watch ESPN 30-30 or grainy highlights on youtube in order
to see the program in its heyday.
For example, an Alabama, Ohio State, or LSU could go on a 4-5 cycle of downspin, losing a bunch of games,
going on steep probation,etc....and they would climb back with strong recruiting classes by 2021 with the
right head coach.
Why?
Because those 2021 kids can draw on their recollections of growing up with those great teams, and would be
excited at the possibility of restoring program back to greatness.
UM, on the other hand, has been horse ***** for more than 10 years and the only recollection these current batch
of recruits have with the program is mediocre football being played in front of 15,000 sleepy and disgusted fans.
The model you need to look at is not too far from the UM football offices.
Specifically, look at Coach L with hoops.
His first few years he had to settle for under-the-radar players, transfers, etc.
Now he is landing big-time talent, but this was after several years of winning big games and playing in the post-season.
So stop it with that stupid "recruiting bump" theory.
It's stupid and not relevant to this program.
//and your religious take is equally ignorant of reality in light of considering where most of the top prep kids come from.
